Chapter 396: Chaos at the Airport
On the way to the airport, Emma Hart received a call from Amelia Davidson.
"Emma! You two sure know how to have fun! I never thought of that! If I could do it all over again, I’d definitely go for it!" Amelia was ecstatic. It surprised her that even someone as stoic as Damien could come up with such a thrilling and romantic idea.
"Amelia, next time we’ll do it together! By the way, we’re heading straight to Japan. I’m not too worried about the kids, even though they have school. If you have time, could you and Mrs. Harris take extra care of them?" Emma said to Amelia.
She had no idea what was going to happen today. Had she known, she would have hugged her kids more before getting on the plane.
Emma kept giving Amelia detailed instructions on how to care for the kids until Damien’s complaints forced her to reluctantly hang up. Still, she continued typing away on her phone, worried that she might have spoken too quickly and Amelia might forget something.
"Don’t worry, everything will be fine. They’re more independent than you think," Damien reassured her.
Emma rolled her eyes at Damien. How could he say such a thing? The kids were still so young.
Seeing Emma’s expression, Damien wasn’t pleased. He clicked his tongue and jealously asked, "My dear wife, who’s more important to you, the kids or me?"
Emma smirked and replied, "Come on, Mr. Sterling, are you really competing with the kids?"
Sometimes this man was adorable. They say men are just big kids, and it seemed true.
"Tell me now!" Damien demanded, gently pinning her against the car door.
Emma quickly glanced towards the driver and then whispered to Damien, "Stop it, people are around!"
"I don’t care. Tell me, and I’ll let you go," Damien said, lightly holding her chin, indifferent to others’ opinions.
"Alright! You and the kids are equally important," Emma said, patting Damien’s head. "They’re the little treasures, and you’re the big one, okay?"
Her loving gaze left Damien helpless. When did this woman become so clever?
Emma chuckled to herself, glad that the flirting techniques she learned from Amelia hadn’t gone to waste.
The rest of the trip was pleasant and smooth, and they arrived at the airport ten minutes earlier than expected.
The driver dropped them off and drove away.
"Oh no!" Emma suddenly remembered something important.
"What’s wrong?" Damien asked.
"Are we really going abroad without any luggage?" Emma asked seriously.
So that was her concern. She was really getting into the role of a homemaker.
Damien pressed her head gently and led her towards the airport hall. "Don’t worry, everything’s prepared over there."
After getting their boarding passes and clearing security, Emma and Damien wandered around the departure lounge, with about thirty minutes until boarding.
Since Emma hadn’t eaten much at lunch, they stopped at a ramen shop.
While waiting for their food, Emma Hart was video chatting with the kids, and Damien Sterling had gone to the restroom.
"Ma’am, your ramen is here," the waiter said after a while, but Damien still hadn’t returned.
"Why can’t I reach him?" Emma wondered, staring at her phone showing a failed call attempt. Without eating her ramen, she hurried toward the restroom.
There were two men’s restrooms near the ramen shop. Emma ran to the first one, hesitated for a moment, then closed her eyes and shouted Damien’s name from the entrance. There was no response. When she opened her eyes, she saw all the men inside staring at her in shock, so she quickly ran to the second restroom.
Before she reached it, Damien walked out.
"Emma?" Damien looked puzzled, seeing her running towards him with a worried expression.
Emma stopped in front of him, panting heavily. Once she caught her breath, she said, "Why couldn’t I reach you? You scared me!"
"My phone died," Damien replied.
"You scared me to death! It’s your fault for not bringing a power bank!" Emma complained, punching Damien’s shoulder in frustration.
"Alright, I’m sorry," Damien said, pulling her into a comforting embrace. His eyes were full of tenderness, making the passing girls envious.
The romantic moment was interrupted by Emma’s growling stomach.
"There it goes again," Emma said, touching her empty stomach.
"You haven’t eaten yet?" Damien asked, sounding like a concerned parent.
"I was worried about you! I left my ramen untouched and ran here!" Emma said, feeling aggrieved.
Damien glanced at the airport’s clock. They had only five minutes until boarding.
"We don’t have time. Let’s board first. We’ll ask the flight attendants for a meal once we’re on the plane," Damien said, feeling sorry but knowing it was the only option.
"Okay!" Emma nodded vigorously.
Holding her hand, Damien led Emma to the boarding gate, as he disliked being late for anything.
"Welcome aboard," the flight attendant greeted them politely at the gate.
They were flying first class. Emma noticed that as soon as Damien sat down, the flight attendants’ eyes lit up, like hungry predators spotting prey.
Soon, the flight attendants took turns offering Damien tea, blankets, and pillows, completely ignoring Emma.
It wasn’t until Damien said, "Thank you. Could you please bring double portions? Also, my wife hasn’t eaten yet. Please prepare an in-flight meal for her," that the flight attendants, looking disappointed, reluctantly complied.
Emma, sitting beside Damien, couldn’t help but find the situation amusing.
"What are you laughing at?" Damien asked, raising an eyebrow.
"The flight attendants are hilarious. I was wondering, if you were single, how would you respond to them? Would you still be as icy?" Emma whispered, giggling.
"Icy?" Damien felt speechless. So that’s how she saw him.
"No, if I were single, I might warmly invite them to join us in Japan!" Damien joked, smirking. If she thought he was icy, he might as well tease her.
Emma Hart’s eyes widened at Damien Sterling’s words, her mouth pouting and nose wrinkling.
That little expression of hers only made Damien Sterling find her even more adorable.
