Chapter 391: Before the Wedding

It’s been some time since Emma Hart last saw Matthew Taylor. Since that day, she avoided going to Sterling Group to prevent any unfortunate encounters with him. Tomorrow is the anticipated wedding day, and she has been diligently staying home and learning from her teacher, finally putting an end to the terrifyingly rigorous training sessions.

"Mrs. Sterling, that’s all for today’s lesson. I wish you and Mr. Sterling a smooth wedding tomorrow! If you ever want more lessons, feel free to contact me!" said the fitness coach before getting into their car and driving away.

More lessons? Emma Hart silently vowed that unless something unexpected happened, she never wanted to go through such intense fitness training again. It was worse than her university military training days.

"Emma, the bridal shop called and said the wedding dress will be delivered by this evening," Mrs. Harris said as she walked up to Emma Hart.

"Got it, Mrs. Harris," Emma Hart replied, feeling like a bird finally freed from its cage, incredibly relieved.

"Woof woof!" Bailey, the dog in the yard, came running towards her, wagging his tail and hesitating whether to jump on Emma Hart.

"Come here, Bailey!" Emma Hart opened her arms warmly towards Bailey. She hadn’t had the chance to play so freely with Bailey in a long time due to her training and taking care of Damien Sterling.

"Emma!" A clear female voice suddenly reached Emma Hart’s ears. She and Bailey turned to see Amelia Davidson and Logan Harrington standing there with bags in hand.

"Amelia and Logan, what are you doing here?" Emma Hart was both surprised and embarrassed, realizing she was dirty from playing with Bailey.

"Stop playing and come here! We’ve brought your dowry," Amelia Davidson said, shaking the bags she held. Logan Harrington’s hands were similarly occupied.

"Dowry?" Emma Hart had never considered this. During her previous wedding, she had been forcibly taken by Damien Sterling, and her family’s situation was clear—they couldn’t have prepared a dowry for her...

Curious, Emma Hart walked towards them.

"Haha, it’s really funny when you think about it. I heard from Logan that this is your third wedding. I didn’t expect you two to be such perfectionists!" Amelia Davidson’s hearty laughter filled the yard, making Emma Hart blush.

The dowry was funded by Amelia Davidson in the name of Emma Hart’s family.

"Amelia, you really..." Emma Hart stepped forward to hug Amelia Davidson. Besides her mother, this sister was the closest person to her.

Inside the house, Logan Harrington sat in the living room watching TV, while Amelia Davidson and Emma Hart were upstairs in a small room trying on the wedding dress that had just been delivered. It wasn’t bought at a bridal shop but was a custom-made dress from Paris, secretly arranged by Damien Sterling for Emma Hart.

Emma Hart donned the white, dazzling bridal gown and stood before Amelia Davidson.

"Being young is truly wonderful," Amelia Davidson sighed.

"Being praised by the goddess makes me so happy!" Emma Hart hugged Amelia Davidson, tears silently falling.

After holding each other for a long time, Amelia Davidson noticed something unusual. The frail woman clung to her without letting go, without making a sound, just holding her tighter and tighter.

"Emma?" Amelia Davidson gently called out to her sister.

Emma Hart couldn’t speak; she used all her strength to suppress her sobs, her body trembling uncontrollably. Amelia Davidson remained silent, holding Emma Hart tightly as they both stood motionless.

After an unknown amount of time, Emma Hart’s emotions gradually stabilized. She slowly pulled away from Amelia Davidson’s shoulder, leaving a large tear stain on it.

"Alright! Tomorrow I’ll be there as your family, so don’t overthink it! I’ve got everything covered!" Amelia Davidson said, patting her chest reassuringly.

Emma Hart smiled through her tears.

At eight in the evening, Damien Sterling returned to the Sterling family villa.

"Logan Harrington," Damien Sterling called out as he entered.

"Brother, you’re finally back! Please go upstairs and talk to them. I’ve called them down several times, but they ignored me. I’m starving," Logan Harrington pleaded.

"Okay," Damien Sterling replied nonchalantly and headed upstairs. Logan Harrington immediately rushed to the kitchen to urge Mrs. Harris to serve dinner.

As Damien Sterling reached the second floor, he heard Emma Hart and Amelia Davidson chatting and laughing. The voices were loud enough that he didn’t need to call out to find them; he could tell they were coming from the room next to the baby’s room.

"Emma Hart!" Damien Sterling knocked on the door and called out.

"Coming, coming!" Emma Hart ran to open the door as soon as she heard his voice.

"Come down for dinner," Damien Sterling said, glancing at Amelia Davidson in the room. They exchanged greetings, and then the three of them headed downstairs.

Dinner that night seemed more enjoyable than usual, probably due to the extra company.

After dinner, Amelia Davidson and Logan Harrington stayed over at the Sterling family villa.

In Damien Sterling’s bedroom:

"What did you and Amelia Davidson talk about today? Logan Harrington was downstairs about to lose his mind waiting," Damien Sterling said with a smile, drying his freshly washed hair with a towel. The thought of Logan Harrington’s desperate pleas amused him greatly.

"Really? We didn’t talk about much," Emma Hart replied, turning her back to Damien Sterling, preparing to sleep. Her mind was filled with today’s secret conversation with Amelia Davidson, transitioning from tears to laughter, from sadness to joy. This was a secret between them that she couldn’t share with anyone.

Damien Sterling turned off all the lights in the room, even the small night light.

"Ah! Damien Sterling, what are you doing?" Emma Hart panicked in the darkness, closing her eyes and shouting, "Turn the lights on! Stop it!"

Her hands waved erratically in the air.

"Shh, don’t be afraid," Damien Sterling whispered as he moved closer, using his strong arms to calm her flailing hands and then wrapping them around her waist.

"Don’t be scared, just sleep. I’ll always be here with you," he whispered soothingly into her ear.

Emma Hart clung tightly to Damien Sterling’s arm, her forehead breaking out in a cold sweat, leaving deep nail marks on his arm.

Using his other hand, Damien Sterling gently pressed her head, trying to share her tension and fear.

Emma Hart slowly opened her eyes, her pupils darting around as if realizing the darkness wasn’t as terrifying as she had imagined.

The heavy, steady sound of Damien Sterling’s breathing reached her ears.

This was the second night she had spent in total darkness with Damien Sterling. The first was in the hotel where they met, filled with endless fear that left her almost unable to breathe. This time, it was comforting and warm.
