Chapter 375: Recuperating from Illness

Damien Sterling arranged for Emma Hart to stay in a hospital room, where she rested for a day.

That evening, Emma Hart became restless in her hospital room.

"No, you need to stay a few more days," Damien Sterling said coldly, annoyed that she wanted to leave as soon as she felt slightly better.

Emma Hart was feeling much better and had been eating vegetable porridge all day. She was now so sick of it that she longed for the delicious food from Peach Blossom Town. Just thinking about it made her stomach growl again.

"Mrs. Sterling, how are you feeling now?" a nurse asked as she brought Emma Hart her final dose of medication for the day.

"Much better. Can I be discharged now?" Emma Hart asked, not wanting to stay in this cold and unwelcoming place any longer.

"Well... please wait a moment, I’ll get the doctor to take a look." The nurse glanced at Emma Hart, then at Damien Sterling, who seemed a bit angry, and decided it was best not to say much.

Finally, after thorough examination and consultation, the specialist doctor confirmed that Emma Hart could be discharged. Despite Damien Sterling’s concerns, the doctor prescribed the best medication for treating gastroenteritis and gave Damien Sterling his personal phone number, ensuring he could be contacted in case of any emergency.

With that, Damien Sterling felt reassured and took Emma Hart out of the hospital.

On the way back, Ryan Garcia drove leisurely, with the car windows down, letting the gentle spring night breeze brush his face.

In the back seat, Damien Sterling and Emma Hart leaned against opposite car doors, both asleep.

They returned to the guesthouse after dinner time. Everyone was in their rooms except for the old man.

He sat in the security room on the first floor, smoking a cigarette and feeling deeply guilty about Emma Hart’s illness. Was it caused by the town’s unclean food? The town’s medical skills were also quite limited... it was really troubling.

Suddenly, a light shone in front of a patch of grass, and the sound of car tires rolling over the grass and stones grew louder.

The old man recognized the familiar SUV as it came into view.

He hurriedly stood up and walked towards where the car stopped.

"Mr. Sterling, Mrs. Sterling!" the old man called out to the people getting out of the car.

"Hey, old man, why don’t you ever call me?" Ryan Garcia shouted as he closed the car door.

The old man glanced apologetically at Ryan Garcia.

"Ryan, that’s enough. Stop it," Damien Sterling said as he supported the weak Emma Hart and walked towards their room on the second floor of the guesthouse.

"Thank you, Ryan. Go get some rest!" Damien Sterling said to Ryan Garcia.

"Bro, call me if you need anything!" Ryan Garcia replied, stepping forward to speak to Damien Sterling.

Ryan Garcia then returned to his room to catch up on sleep. The old man spent the night in the security room, worried that Mrs. Sterling might fall ill again, something he, a poor old bachelor, could hardly handle.

The night was exceptionally peaceful, and Emma Hart slept soundly. The smell of hospital antiseptics that had made her nauseous was gone, replaced by the comforting softness of a big bed.

Early the next morning, the old man asked his neighbor to cook a nutritious porridge with vegetables and meat for Emma Hart. He brought it to the guesthouse in a thermos to keep it warm.

Emma Hart and Damien Sterling were already awake.

"Mr. Sterling, this is a little something from my neighbor. She made some vegetable and meat porridge specifically for Mrs. Sterling," the old man said warmly, handing the thermos box to Damien Sterling.

"That’s very kind, thank you," Damien Sterling said, accepting the thermos.

The porridge was perfectly cooked and seasoned, but Emma Hart had been eating plain porridge for an entire day, and she had no appetite for this bland vegetable porridge.

"If you don’t eat, I might have to feed you," Damien Sterling said with a mischievous smile, noticing Emma Hart’s reluctance.

"No need, I’ll do it myself." Emma Hart took the bowl of porridge that Damien Sterling had prepared for her.

To not disappoint the villagers and to reassure Damien Sterling, she forced herself to eat half of the porridge and drank some warm water. It felt as unpleasant as taking medicine.

By noon, the temperature was at its peak in Peach Blossom Town.

Emma Hart stayed in her room, reading novels and watching TV, while Damien Sterling and Lucy Allen went to the construction site to supervise the progress. Yesterday’s hospital visit had delayed their work.

"Auntie Emma! Auntie Emma!" A child’s voice called from outside Emma Hart’s room.

It must be the children from the town.

Emma Hart got up and opened the door. Sure enough, it was the group of adorable children, holding the peach blossom and taro cakes they had brought her last time.

"Jack! And all of you, why are you here?" Emma Hart crouched down to be closer to their height.

"We came to see you, Auntie Emma. Is your tummy still hurting?" Jack asked, handing her the transparent box of peach blossom cakes. She accepted their gift and invited them inside.

The children hesitated, exchanging glances. Jack, standing at the front, said, "No, no, we just came to check on you. Auntie, as long as you’re okay, we’ll be relieved. We still have to go home and do chores!" With that, Jack looked at his friends, and they nodded.

Their parents had told them that they could bring gifts but shouldn’t stay inside, as Auntie Emma needed rest.

He continued, "We’re glad you’re okay! We’ll wait for you to recover and come play with us! Bye, Auntie!"

"Bye, Auntie!" the children waved and left together.

Watching these caring and adorable children, Emma Hart felt a pang of sadness. She wondered how her two sons were doing with Mr. Sterling Senior.

Closing the door, her thoughts traveled to City B, focusing on her two children. She wanted to contact them badly.

"Knock, knock, knock! Emma Hart!" Ryan Garcia’s voice brought her back to reality.

Emma Hart opened the door, surprised at how lively her room had become.

At the door, Ryan Garcia stood holding a bottle of red flower oil.

"How are you feeling? Any discomfort?" Ryan Garcia asked.

"I’m fine, thank you... Is there something else?" Emma Hart inquired.

Ryan Garcia seemed a bit awkward. After a moment, he said, "This is for you, red flower oil. If you feel any discomfort, give it a try."

As he spoke, he avoided eye contact with Emma Hart. When she accepted the red flower oil, he even blushed slightly.
