Chapter 374: Seeking Medical Help in the Middle of the Night

The old man who was in charge of hosting them poured some more hot tea for Emma Hart. "Mrs. Sterling, this is partridge tea; it helps with digestion."

"Thank you, sir." Emma Hart’s hand remained on her stomach as she sipped the tea, setting it down quickly; even one more bite felt unbearable.

The children on the first floor, who were eagerly waiting to play with her, were disappointed. They turned their attention to Ryan Garcia, who was wandering downstairs.

After a while, most of the people had dispersed.

With Damien Sterling’s help, Emma Hart returned to their guest room at the guesthouse.

Exhausted from the day’s activities, her body was screaming for sleep. After a shower, Emma Hart collapsed onto the bed and fell asleep instantly. Damien Sterling lay beside her, planning the next day’s work.

It wasn’t until around 2 AM that he finally drifted off to sleep.

The night was quiet when Damien Sterling started dreaming. Suddenly, a loud voice shattered the silence. "Damien Sterling!" It jolted him awake.

"What’s wrong?" he asked, fully alert now from the frightened voice.

"I think I have a fever..." Emma Hart’s voice quivered, on the verge of tears.

Damien Sterling reached out to feel her forehead. "I can barely breathe," Emma Hart added.

She felt as if her body was on fire.

Damien Sterling got out of bed to fetch a glass of cool water and rummaged through their belongings for a thermometer, but found none.

He quickly called the old man, explaining Emma Hart’s condition.

Soon, the old man arrived with a flashlight, accompanied by a village doctor.

The doctor, at least thirty-five years old, wore a white coat and carried a medical kit. He swiftly entered the room.

He handed Emma Hart a thermometer to check her temperature and used the flashlight to examine her throat.

"When did Mrs. Sterling start feeling this way?" the doctor asked, firing off a series of questions about what she had eaten, if she had sneezed, or had a runny nose.

Her temperature indicated a slight fever. The doctor concluded that Emma Hart had caught a mild cold due to the chill and prescribed some common cold and fever medications.

After taking the medicine, Emma Hart’s fever didn’t seem to subside. Damien Sterling wanted to take her to the hospital, but Emma Hart felt it was unsafe to travel at night and insisted on staying put to see if her condition improved.

As the night wore on, the mountain fog grew dense and the weather turned bitterly cold. Damien Sterling tightly shut the room’s windows.

Unable to sleep, he boiled some water with an electric kettle and read the latest economic news at the desk, frequently checking on Emma Hart.

She slept fitfully, occasionally waking to cough and look for Damien Sterling, then drifting back to sleep upon seeing him nearby.

Damien Sterling gently touched her face, careful not to disturb her dreams, but she eventually woke up.

Emma Hart reluctantly half-opened her eyes.

"It’s alright, go back to sleep," Damien Sterling whispered softly. Thankfully, her fever had broken.

Two hours later, Emma Hart suddenly bolted out of bed and ran to the bathroom.

"Ugh... ugh..." The smell of vomit filled the sink.

Damien Sterling stood behind her, patting her back to ease her discomfort.

Emma Hart felt her stomach churning and spasming, the relentless vomiting making her eyes red and swollen. It was nearing 5 AM, and the morning in Peach Blossom Town arrived early, with the sky already lightening.

Damien Sterling decided to take Emma Hart to a hospital in City B for proper treatment.

The commotion downstairs woke Ryan Garcia, who saw Damien Sterling helping Emma Hart into the car.

"Bro? What’s going on?" Ryan Garcia asked as he approached.

Damien Sterling explained that Emma Hart wasn’t feeling well and they needed to get her to a hospital.

The driver was supposed to drive, but Damien Sterling felt his driver was too cautious and slow, so he decided to drive himself.

"Wait, bro, let me drive. You stay with her," Ryan Garcia insisted, pushing Damien Sterling towards the back seat and taking the wheel himself.

He felt somewhat guilty, knowing the instant noodles were his idea and that he had indulged Emma.

Ryan Garcia was experienced with racing abroad, so Damien Sterling trusted his driving skills.

On the rural roads, the SUV turned into a speeding race car, tearing through the countryside.

In less than twenty minutes, they reached City B.

The streets were nearly empty, and the SUV sped through, not slowing until they reached the hospital.

Ryan Garcia quickly went to register, while Damien Sterling sat with Emma Hart in the emergency waiting room.

There were a few patients ahead of them, and while waiting, Emma Hart continued to vomit, finally collapsing into Damien Sterling’s arms.

At last, their turn came. Inside the emergency room, a bald, disdainful doctor sat behind the desk, chewing gum and scribbling on a paper.

"What’s the issue?" he asked, looking uninterested as he continued chewing.

After learning about Emma Hart’s symptoms, the doctor opened the prescription page on his computer.

"This is just acute gastroenteritis, nothing serious. I’ll prescribe some medication," the doctor said indifferently.

"Nothing serious?" Damien Sterling slammed his hand on the desk, glaring menacingly at the doctor. This was not a joke; this was his woman, and if anything happened to her, the doctor would face serious consequences. Ryan Garcia watched silently, occasionally glancing at the ailing Emma Hart.

"Calm down, calm down. Don’t worry, I’ll also prescribe some IV fluids. She’ll be fine in a couple of days," the doctor stammered, terrified of the fierce man in front of him. "Please, wait a moment."

The doctor hurriedly left the room, nearly stumbling, to call a specialist from the same hospital for advice on what medication to prescribe, then returned to write the prescription.

While receiving the IV drip, Emma Hart couldn’t eat anything. She was very hungry, but even a sip of water would make her vomit. Only after the IV did her condition start to improve.

Her previously pale face began to show some color.

Ryan Garcia fell asleep in the chair beside her, while Damien Sterling sat by her side, never closing his eyes to rest.

Both men had developed dark circles under their eyes.

"How are you feeling?" Damien Sterling asked with concern.

Emma Hart was too exhausted to speak. She smiled weakly and nodded, then gestured for Damien Sterling to hand her some water.
