Overbearing CEO's Contract Love -
Chapter 370: News
Chapter 370: News
Emma Hart woke up early, feeling refreshed and in a good mood, resuming her daily duties as Damien Sterling’s personal assistant as if nothing had happened. Perhaps she had simply grown used to the constant scolding by now.
After breakfast, Emma and Damien took the kids to school together, chatting and laughing along the way. It was as if last night’s unpleasant incident had been nothing more than a bad dream. If only it had been just a dream, that would have been perfect.
Twenty minutes later, outside the CEO’s office at Sterling Group.
As Damien and Emma stepped out of the elevator, they noticed Assistant Lee already waiting on the couch outside the office.
"Mr. Sterling, finally! I’ve been trying to reach you, but your phone was off. Mr. Sterling Senior called and needs to speak with you," Assistant Lee said, standing up quickly.
"Is something wrong?" Damien asked.
His phone had died in the car, and since the office was not far, he hadn’t bothered to charge it.
"Well, it’s not a major issue, but it’s about your family," Assistant Lee replied, taking out his phone and showing Damien the morning’s trending topics.
Mr. Sterling Senior’s call was indeed about this matter. The top news headline read: "Sterling Family’s Lady Dressed as a Bear to Entertain Children." Below the headline were photos of Emma dressed as a bear at the charity event last night, playing with the children and being forcefully pulled off the stage by Damien.
Public opinion was divided: some criticized Emma for damaging her image as a socialite, while others found her actions endearing and fitting the charity event’s theme.
Damien quickly understood why his grandfather had contacted him. Mr. Sterling Senior always maintained a high public image, believing that the Sterling family should be noble and above such antics, which he considered shameful.
"Got it. Anything else?" Damien asked Assistant Lee.
"Mr. Sterling Senior also requested you join him for a round of golf this afternoon," Assistant Lee hesitated before continuing, "and he asked for you to come alone."
Emma felt utterly embarrassed. She knew she had displeased Mr. Sterling Senior. Coming from a modest background, she was never favored by him, and now things were even worse.
"I understand. You can go now; I’ll call my grandfather back," Damien said, dismissing Assistant Lee.
Once inside his office, Damien used his desk phone to call Mr. Sterling Senior.
"Hello, Grandpa!" Damien greeted.
"Do you know what you’ve done? How dare you call me after this mess?" Mr. Sterling Senior’s furious voice boomed through the phone. Damien had to hold the receiver away to protect his ears from the loud reprimand.
Mr. Sterling Senior’s voice was so loud that even without speaker mode, Emma could hear every harsh word. She covered her ears in fear and bowed her head in shame.
After Mr. Sterling Senior finished his scolding, Damien Sterling humbly apologized as a respectful grandson should, and they agreed on a time for their golf game. It would be at three o’clock that afternoon; Damien was not one to delay dealing with problems, especially troublesome ones.
"Don’t worry, it’s okay," Damien reassured Emma Hart, seeing her filled with guilt and unease.
Within an hour, all news about Emma Hart had disappeared, undoubtedly thanks to Assistant Lee. After learning from the last scandal, Damien had instructed Assistant Lee to swiftly handle any negative news related to the Sterling family or Sterling Group. As a result, the issue was resolved within the morning, and no rumors circulated within the company.
During lunch, Damien and Emma ate in his office, enjoying a meal of fried fish fillets, mashed potatoes, cherry tomatoes, and a delicious salad. Damien, a fan of Western cuisine, ate happily.
"Do I need to go to the golf event this afternoon?" Emma asked, fidgeting with her fork. Mr. Sterling Senior had specified he only wanted to see Damien.
"Yes," Damien replied without hesitation.
At three o’clock, they appeared punctually in the lobby of the golf club, dressed in sports attire.
"Mr. and Mrs. Sterling! Welcome! Mr. Sterling Senior is already inside," the manager greeted them warmly as they entered.
Damien directed Emma to go for a massage on the second floor, telling her to return afterward, and watched as she left with an attendant before heading to the golf course himself.
Stepping out of the air-conditioned lobby, the fresh scent of grass hit him, and the vast, green course under the bright sun made him feel more at ease.
"This way, Mr. Sterling," a caddy directed Damien to a cart and drove him to where Mr. Sterling Senior was playing.
Ahead, a slightly overweight man in a light yellow short-sleeve T-shirt and brown sports pants was intensely focused, swinging his golf club. His movements were swift, smooth, and powerful.
"Mr. Sterling Senior, Mr. Sterling is here," the caddy announced.
Mr. Sterling Senior looked sternly at Damien and said in a deep voice, "Hmm, come over."
"Grandpa," Damien greeted as he approached.
"You haven’t played in a while. Give it a try," Mr. Sterling Senior said, signaling the caddy to hand Damien a club.
Taking the club, Damien positioned himself where his grandfather had stood, with a new golf ball ready at his feet. He calmly eyed the ball, tested the angle with his club, then swung forcefully. Unfortunately, the ball didn’t land in the hole.
"Let’s take a break," Mr. Sterling Senior suggested, moving to the rest area where the caddy served them chrysanthemum tea.
As they quietly sipped their tea, Mr. Sterling Senior finally spoke after a long pause, "You see, life is like a golf swing. If you choose the wrong strength, the ball won’t go in the hole. Choose the wrong partner, and you’ll never succeed."
Damien chuckled and replied, "Grandpa, don’t you think that’s a bit of a stretch?"
Here it was again—his grandfather trying to persuade him to break up with Emma Hart, a topic Damien was growing increasingly weary of hearing.
