Chapter 367: Goodbye, See You in the Next Life

Chapter 367: Goodbye, See You in the Next Life

It had been a week since Logan Harrington and Amelia Davidson’s wedding, and now they were on a flight to the Aegean Sea for their honeymoon.

In Damien Sterling’s office, Emma Hart was continuously looking up information about the Aegean Sea on her phone.

"How about we take a trip to the Aegean Sea someday?" Emma Hart was enchanted by the scenic beauty of the Aegean Sea.

"We can go anytime we have some free time," Damien Sterling said, deeply engrossed in his documents.

Suddenly, Damien Sterling’s phone rang.

"Hello?" Damien Sterling answered.

"Damien, darling, could you come to the hospital? My mom... she’s not doing well," Ryan Garcia’s deep voice came through the line.

After hanging up, Damien Sterling immediately instructed Assistant Lee to prepare the car for the hospital, and Emma Hart went with him.

In the hospital room, Brianna Baker lay extremely weak on the bed, connected to a heart monitor and oxygen tubes. She looked like the withered carnation on the bedside table, devoid of any vitality. The moment of farewell was near.

Ryan Garcia watched his mother calmly, gently stroking her white hair with his warm, strong hand. His eyes were filled with deep sorrow, tears welling up but not falling.

Beside him, Harper Clark’s hands and feet were cold, her eyes red from crying.

"Aunt!" Damien Sterling slowly approached Brianna Baker, kneeling beside her bed.

"Damien, Emma, you’re here too!" Brianna Baker smiled faintly, her face pale.

"Aunt!" Emma Hart felt a lump in her throat.

"Come here, my dears! Emma, Harper!" Brianna Baker called weakly to the two women.

Emma Hart and Harper Clark quickly stepped forward.

Brianna Baker gestured for them to extend their hands and then held them tightly.

"Emma, Harper, I entrust these kids to you. You must take good care of them!" Brianna Baker’s hands were cold, but her heart felt warm.

"Mom!" Ryan Garcia looked at his mother with deep reluctance, so many words left unspoken.

"Ryan, you’re a grown man now! You must not let Harper down! You both must take good care of each other, do you understand?" Brianna Baker reached out to touch Ryan Garcia’s warm face. She continued, "In the next life, I will still take care of you!"

Damien Sterling fought back his tears, occasionally looking up at the ceiling, forcing his tears back.

"And remember, stay away from Kevin Garcia..." Brianna Baker’s voice trailed off as she began to convulse. Surrounded by the four of them, she passed away.

It all ended very quickly.

Ryan Garcia gently touched Brianna Baker’s hand and face one last time, hugging her as he did when he upset her as a child, always feeling she would respond and comfort him in the next moment. Sadly, Brianna Baker would never respond again.

After regaining their composure, the doctors and nurses entered the room and took Brianna Baker’s body to the morgue.

As Ryan Garcia and the others left the hospital room, they saw him, the man Brianna Baker had despised her whole life.

"Kevin Garcia! What are you doing here?" Ryan Garcia grabbed Kevin Garcia by the collar, his height towering over him.

"Ryan, calm down!" Kevin Garcia said.

"How am I supposed to calm down?" Ryan Garcia shouted at Kevin Garcia.

"Ryan, let him go," Damien Sterling intervened.

Apart from Brianna Baker, Ryan Garcia only listened to Damien Sterling now. He closed his eyes, took a deep breath, and then released Kevin Garcia. Kevin stumbled, almost falling to the floor.

At that moment, a tall, thin man holding a file folder approached Ryan Garcia.

"Excuse me, are you Mr. Ryan Garcia?" he asked respectfully.

"Yes," Ryan Garcia replied.

"Hello, Mr. Garcia. I am the attorney representing Ms. Brianna Baker. Before she passed away, Ms. Baker made a will, specifying that it could only be opened by you." The lawyer handed the file folder to Ryan Garcia.

Ryan had no interest in such matters at the moment. However, after some persuasion from Damien Sterling and the others, he opened it.

Brianna Baker’s will stated that her entire estate, valued at $1.08 billion, was to be transferred to Ryan Garcia.

"What!" Kevin Garcia muttered under his breath. This was exactly what he had feared. He had hoped to curry favor with Brianna Baker to claim her fortune, but his plan had failed.

Without saying another word, Kevin Garcia left the hospital. No one bothered to stop him; they all viewed him as an unwelcome intruder, a rat scurrying away.

Back at the Green Mountain Retreat, they avoided entering Brianna Baker’s room, fearing it would evoke too many memories. Ryan Garcia, in the hall, had the chef prepare a few cold dishes and brought out some cans of beer to drink heavily. Damien Sterling joined his brother in drinking.

The two women, unable to stop them, let them indulge for the night. They moved their feast to the stone table in the backyard. As they drank more, they talked more, recounting stories from their first meeting to events of the previous day.

Emma Hart and Harper Clark realized the two men wouldn’t stop anytime soon, so they excused themselves to "use the bathroom" and wandered by the small pond nearby.

Harper Clark’s mind was in turmoil, especially after Brianna Baker entrusted Ryan Garcia to her care. She didn’t know what to do. Initially, her approach to Ryan was part of Sophia Greenwood’s plan. But now that she had developed feelings for him, should she continue to follow Sophia Greenwood’s scheme?

"Harper, do you really like Ryan Garcia?" Emma Hart asked. She knew Harper wasn’t as simple as she seemed and suspected there was a motive behind her proximity to Ryan.

"If I said I didn’t at first, but I do now, would you believe me?" Harper Clark countered.

Emma glanced back at the drunken Ryan Garcia and asked, "What do you see in that guy?"

Harper laughed, pleased that Emma chose to believe her. "I like his naive and earnest nature," Harper answered.

That night, Damien Sterling, Emma Hart, and Harper Clark stayed at the Green Mountain Retreat. Around three in the morning, the women dragged the drunken men back to their rooms to sober up and sleep.

In the later part of the night, the men snuck out for a walk while the women slept. They didn’t sleep at all, only returning to their rooms at eight in the morning to finally get some rest.
