Chapter 357: The Conditions for Not Cutting the Tree

Chapter 357: The Conditions for Not Cutting the Tree

"Alright, I’ll be straightforward. You don’t have to cut the tree, but once we’re back in A City, you’ll have to be my personal assistant for a month!" Damien Sterling said, a mischievous grin spreading across his face.

Emma Hart felt a pang of fear. This man always found ways to torment her! She really didn’t want to agree. She had just regained a bit of freedom, and now she was about to fall into another trap. It was hard to bear.

But beggars can’t be choosers. She sighed inwardly. Who could she blame but herself?

"Fine! I agree!" Emma Hart thought. It’s just a month! She could grit her teeth and get through it. She wasn’t afraid!

"Good, very good," Damien Sterling applauded her.

"Then let’s sign a contract right now!" Damien Sterling quickly wrote up a contract by hand and handed it to Emma Hart to sign.

"Is this really necessary?" Emma Hart asked.

"It’s better to be serious about it! You wouldn’t want your future children to think their mother couldn’t keep her word, would you?" Damien Sterling teased, kissing her again.

"Ugh, get off me!" Emma Hart protested, her heart sinking at the thought of returning to being his assistant.

With the matter settled, Emma Hart happily returned to the big cabin. The adorable bowl-cut Jack was playing catch with his friends.

"Hey kids! Come here!" Emma Hart couldn’t wait to share the good news.

"Guess what? I’ve convinced Mr. Sterling! The big tree won’t be cut down!" Emma Hart clapped her hands, trying to rally their enthusiasm.

But her smile started to falter as the kids showed no signs of happiness, instead looking awkwardly at the ground.

"Jack? What’s wrong? Why aren’t you happy?" Emma Hart asked, puzzled.

"Well... Aunt Emma, thank you... but..." Jack trailed off.

"But what?" Emma Hart pressed.

"The mayor was just here. We asked him if the old tree was going to be cut down, and he said... they never planned to cut it down," Jack admitted, looking embarrassed.

What? Never planned to cut it down? Emma Hart was utterly confused.

"Oh, Mrs. Sterling, come join us!" Mayor Walker called out warmly as he saw Emma Hart enter the cabin.

"Mayor? Perfect timing. I need to ask you something. Did you ever mention cutting down the tree?" Emma pulled Mayor Walker aside, her voice tinged with urgency.

"Of course not! That old tree is our town’s treasure. We would never think of cutting it down!" Mayor Walker chuckled heartily after he spoke.

Never thought of cutting down the tree? Then why did Damien Sterling make her sign a contract? Could it be...

"I’ve been deceived?" Emma muttered to herself.

"Mrs. Sterling? What did you say?" Mayor Walker asked, puzzled.

"Oh, nothing, nothing. Enjoy yourselves, everyone. Jack, you kids keep playing. I need to step out for a bit," Emma said quickly, and then she dashed towards the guesthouse.

At the guesthouse...

"Damien Sterling!" Emma burst into the room, yelling.

Damien Sterling was lounging on the bed, watching a movie.

"Hmm? What’s up, honey?" Damien asked, grinning.

Emma quickly recounted what had happened at the cabin.

"Ha!" Damien couldn’t help but laugh. He hadn’t expected the truth to come out so easily. If he had known, he would have extended her personal assistant term by another month.

"You think this is funny? You knew it was fake and still tricked me!" Emma’s fury was akin to a wild kitten, her fists landing harmless blows on his chest.

In one swift move, Damien flipped Emma onto the bed with a soft thud.

"Seems like this bed’s quality isn’t that great. But considering how often you’ve tried to ’assault’ your dear husband lately, I’ll let it slide," Damien murmured, leaving a deep kiss mark on Emma’s pale collarbone.

"Ah!" Emma gasped. She tried to wriggle out from under the ’mountain’ pinning her down, but it was futile.

"Mr. Sterling, Damien! I was wrong!" Emma pleaded, her recent stomachache still fresh in her memory. She didn’t want to engage in any strenuous activity.

"Hmph! Little minx, enjoy it!" Damien smirked wickedly, licking Emma’s seductive earlobe.

And so, they embarked on a different kind of ’exercise’ on the bed.

Downstairs from their room was where Assistant Lee and the driver stayed. These past few days, the driver had rarely left his room, preferring to stay in and play on his phone. The guesthouse’s poor soundproofing meant that the sounds of Damien Sterling and Emma Hart’s passionate encounters, along with the rhythmic creaking of the wooden bed, were unavoidably heard by him.

24 hours later.

Damien Sterling and Assistant Lee had captured all the scenic spots of Peach Blossom Town. With their mission complete, they were preparing to return to A City after lunch.

Mayor Walker hosted a farewell banquet for them at the big cabin. After a lengthy official speech filled with blessings, the sumptuous lunch began.

During the meal, many children came over to bid farewell to Emma Hart, hugging her and even giving her kisses. Damien Sterling observed how easily she won the children’s affection, thinking she would make a wonderful mother.

As they were about to leave, the children presented Emma Hart with several boxes of handmade taro cakes, green tea cakes, and peach blossom cakes, each accompanied by adorable little cards from Bailey and others. They expressed their hope that she would visit them often.

Children’s hearts are pure and sincere. When they like you, they become attached, and parting brings tears to both sides.

Upon returning to the Sterling family villa, the household staff lined up to welcome the return of their masters.

"Achoo!" Emma Hart sneezed the moment she got out of the car. The good weather in Peach Blossom Town had almost made her forget that it wasn’t summer yet.

Damien Sterling draped his jacket over her shoulders and remarked, "This is going to be fun, my little assistant!"

His words snapped Emma Hart back to reality. Tomorrow, she would begin her arduous month as his personal assistant.

That evening, Damien Sterling had ten sets of professional attire delivered to Emma Hart.

"I already have clothes like these. Why the new ones?" Emma Hart asked.

Damien Sterling stroked his chin, a sly smile playing on his lips. "Because some things have changed."

Emma Hart thought that Damien Sterling was becoming increasingly lecherous... it must be Logan Harrington’s bad influence!
