Overbearing CEO's Contract Love -
Chapter 348: Because I Love You
Chapter 348: Because I Love You
Emma Hart felt a profound sense of guilt. Even though Damien Sterling seemed indifferent to the money, she knew it was hard-earned.
"Why didn’t you tell me?" Emma Hart’s voice carried a hint of frustration. It was her grandmother’s mistake, and it shouldn’t be Damien Sterling’s burden to bear.
Damien Sterling, unfazed, continued sipping his soup and responded, "You’re sick, you need to rest. Let me handle these worries."
"But!" Emma Hart wanted to argue, but words failed her. It was her grandmother, after all—a bottomless pit of trouble that shouldn’t trouble Damien Sterling.
"Emma, what is our relationship?" Damien Sterling asked.
"Husband... and wife," Emma Hart blushed as she said the words. She had never imagined herself being the woman of Damien Sterling, the man who ruled Sterling Group in City A.
"Because we are husband and wife, because I love you, your problems are my problems, understand?" Damien Sterling gently caressed Emma Hart’s dark, silky hair. Her eyes were filled with concern for him.
"But this will be too much for you," Emma Hart knew that if her grandmother sought her help, she would be unable to repay the debt, and it would ultimately fall on Damien Sterling. The heavy burden of family ties could suffocate him, affecting their relationship.
"Fool! Isn’t that what you’re here for, to take care of me?" Damien Sterling smirked mischievously.
"Go, get me another bowl of soup," Damien Sterling waved the empty white porcelain bowl, the clinking sound echoing in the quiet room.
"Okay!" Emma Hart smiled, took the bowl, and headed to the kitchen.
It was late, and the house was silent. For anyone working away from home, regardless of wealth or status, the only hope is to return home to a light left on for them and someone waiting for their return.
Elsewhere, another pair of lovers had been awake for a while.
Amelia Davidson and Logan Harrington lay in bed, having just shared an intimate moment.
"Grandmother..." Amelia Davidson’s face was filled with worry.
Logan Harrington lay with his hands behind his head, eyes half-closed.
"She called today." After a few minutes, Logan Harrington finally spoke.
"What did she say?" Amelia Davidson thought it was another attempt to persuade them to break up.
"She agreed!" Logan Harrington suddenly jumped up on the bed.
Amelia Davidson couldn’t believe her ears. She sat up straight and asked Logan Harrington, "What! Say that again."
Logan Harrington stopped, leaned down, and picked her up, bouncing on the bed and shouting, "I said, she agreed! We’re getting married!"
"Ah! Put me down! Put me down!" Amelia Davidson excitedly slapped Logan Harrington’s arm. He gently set her down, smiling, "Take it easy, my wife."
"Are you serious! You’re not joking!" Amelia Davidson kept asking for confirmation.
Logan Harrington nodded proudly.
"Yes!" Amelia Davidson cheered, both of them turning their bed into a trampoline of joy.
It took a while for their emotions to settle.
"Your grandmother was so opposed to us. How did she suddenly agree?" Amelia Davidson asked, her voice tinged with curiosity.
Logan Harrington was silent for a moment before he calmly replied, "She said it’s not impossible for us to get married, but I must return to work at Harrington Global Enterprises’ branch in City A... and I agreed."
"You actually agreed to work?" Amelia Davidson was shocked. Logan Harrington was known for his playboy lifestyle.
"Yeah! All for you! You have to take responsibility for me now!" Logan Harrington playfully mimicked the way women flirted with men, burying his head in Amelia Davidson’s arms.
"Oh, no problem! I’ll take good care of you, Mr. Harrington!" Amelia Davidson teased, caressing Logan Harrington’s chin.
Logan Harrington lay in Amelia Davidson’s embrace, and soon they both drifted to sleep.
After Amelia Davidson fell deeply asleep, Logan Harrington quietly got up, picked up his cigarettes and lighter from the bedside table, and walked to the balcony.
Although spring had arrived, the night wind was still piercingly cold, instantly sweeping away the rare moment of drowsiness he had just felt.
Standing on the balcony, Logan Harrington lit a cigarette and gazed at the retreating streetlights below. The sky was beginning to lighten, and the breakfast vendors on the street had already set up their stalls, waiting for customers.
Life isn’t easy for anyone.
Last night, Mrs. Harrington suddenly called Logan Harrington to say she would agree to their marriage, but on several conditions: Logan must return to work at the company, they were not allowed to have a wedding, and Amelia Davidson must give birth to a boy within two years. If not, they would divorce, and the child would belong to Harrington Global Enterprises.
Logan agreed but didn’t tell Amelia Davidson about these unfair terms. He planned to secretly invite his friends to their wedding. As for the child, he would do his best. If Amelia Davidson disagreed or gave birth to a girl, he would come up with a plan to swap the baby or find a surrogate.
No matter what, he was determined to be with Amelia Davidson... He had no other choice. Otherwise, Mrs. Harrington would strip him of everything and leave him destitute, unable to stay with Amelia Davidson.
The cold wind made Logan Harrington sneeze, accidentally waking up the sleeping Amelia Davidson inside.
She heard the sneeze, turned to find Logan not by her side, and quickly got out of bed to look for him.
Logan, quick to react, saw Amelia approaching from the corner of his eye. He immediately picked up his phone, called Damien Sterling, and excitedly said, "Damien Sterling! Are you awake? I’ve got fantastic news! My grandmother agreed! She agreed to our marriage! I’m finally getting married!"
Amelia, smiling sweetly, reached the balcony and asked, "Up so early?"
"Yeah! Go back to sleep for a bit. I’ll go downstairs and get us breakfast," Logan said, gently pushing Amelia back inside.
"It’s cold outside. Be careful not to catch a cold. Stay here and wait for me, honey!" Logan kissed her lips and tucked her back into bed.
Logan quickly changed clothes and went outside, the cold wind biting at his face.
He suddenly remembered the voice message he sent to Damien Sterling might not have been ideal. He reached for his phone to retract it but realized it was too late.
At eight in the morning, both Damien Sterling and Emma Hart received joyous news from Logan Harrington and Amelia Davidson.
Emma Hart, overwhelmed with excitement, began jumping on the bed until Damien Sterling gently held her back. She quickly regained her composure and called Amelia Davidson.
"Amelia! Congratulations! You finally made it!" Emma shouted joyfully, as if she were celebrating her own wedding.
"Thank you, Emma! You’re the first person I told!" Amelia replied.
"When are you getting married? When’s the wedding?" Emma asked, barely able to contain her excitement.
"We’re planning to go dress shopping this afternoon. Do you have time?" Amelia asked.
They had always promised to be each other’s bridesmaids, but Amelia hadn’t expected Emma to be married already.
Since the call was on speaker, Damien Sterling overheard the invitation. Emma looked at him with pleading eyes.
Unable to resist Emma’s begging look, Damien waved his hand and whispered, "Go ahead, go ahead."
"Yes, yes, yes! I have to be there!" Emma agreed enthusiastically, quickly arranging the time and place to meet. She jumped out of bed and began picking out her outfit.
Damien Sterling watched helplessly. This woman had never been this excited about going out with him. If it weren’t for her shy demeanor in bed, he might have suspected he had married a lesbian.
Logan Harrington had also received Damien Sterling’s congratulatory message, which made him sweat a bit: "Congratulations on finally getting married, Mrs. Ye."
Obviously, Damien was being cheeky again; Logan sighed, thinking, "I brought this on myself!"
At three in the afternoon, Damien Sterling and Emma Hart arrived at "Perfect Lover," the most famous bridal shop in City A.
Logan Harrington and Amelia Davidson had been waiting for a while, having already tried on at least ten wedding dresses.
Upon seeing Damien and Emma, the sales assistants, who had been swooning over Logan, now completely lost it. Their hearts were shattered seeing the city’s most eligible bachelors taken.
"Emma, Mr. Sterling, you’re finally here!" Amelia Davidson, wearing a form-fitting mermaid dress, emerged from the fitting room and walked towards Emma.
"Emma, look! How do you like this one?" Amelia twirled in front of her.
Emma inspected the dress. The long, trailing mermaid skirt, the open back, and the sparkling diamonds made it perfect for Amelia.
"It’s beautiful..." Emma was almost speechless.
"Hehe, Logan and I think so too. Let’s make this our first choice!" Amelia said, instructing the staff to pack the dress.
"First choice?" Emma asked, puzzled.
"Yes, we plan to have our wedding in Santorini! Remember, we won that two-person trip? It feels like destiny," Amelia said, looking blissfully happy. She was no longer the career-driven woman she used to be; she was now cherished and adored by Logan.
Emma couldn’t help but feel a twinge of envy for Amelia and Logan’s relationship. Unlike her and Damien, who had struggled and worked hard to finally find their happiness.
"By the way, Emma, why have I never seen your wedding photos with Mr. Sterling?" Amelia Davidson suddenly asked.
"Ah... that’s because..." Emma Hart hesitated, recalling the embarrassing memory of her runaway bride incident.
Logan Harrington, with a mischievous grin, started to say, "Well, I can only imagine—"
"Ah-hem!" Damien Sterling’s sudden cough cut him off.
Logan turned to see Damien glaring at him with icy eyes. Hastily, Logan turned back to Amelia, saying, "Actually, I know nothing."
"Whatever," Amelia shrugged.
For the second dress, they chose a short strapless gown for Amelia, simple and refreshing, perfect for someone who loves freedom and fun.
The third was a more traditional cheongsam-style wedding dress, showcasing Amelia’s versatility and making it clear why Logan would take such risks for her.
"Since we’re here, why don’t we pick a few dresses for ourselves too?" Damien suggested.
Their two weddings had ended poorly, without proper dress selections or venues. Damien wanted to seize this chance to have a perfect wedding.
"Are you serious?" Emma asked, her excitement palpable.
"Yes," Damien said, snapping his fingers. The shop manager immediately approached them.
"Welcome, Mr. and Mrs. Sterling," the manager greeted them warmly.
"We’d like to choose wedding dresses as well. Bring out the best you have, and we’ll all choose together," Damien instructed.
"Right away!" The manager, beaming with excitement, called for the staff to prepare the best dresses.
"Brother, are you trying to steal the spotlight here?" Logan felt uneasy.
"Just pick another dress you like," Damien said, sitting beside Logan.
"We don’t need that many. Let’s just pick our top three," Amelia and Emma said in unison, sharing a knowing smile.
The staff brought out ten of the store’s best dresses for the four of them to view. Amelia’s eyes quickly glazed over from the choices. Eventually, she swapped her original short cheongsam for a long, slit one and was done with her selection.
"Emma, I’ve decided on mine. Need help choosing yours?" Amelia offered, examining Emma’s petite frame to help her pick.
Emma, being smaller than Amelia, needed something less voluminous and intricate. In the end, she chose a red and white vintage-style gown, reflecting her love for cosplay—a surprising but fitting choice.
"Emma, what do you think of this one?" Damien walked over with a Western royal-style dress.
Emma, Amelia, and Logan froze for a moment before bursting into laughter.
"Hahaha! So, you both enjoy cosplay!" Logan laughed until his stomach hurt.
