Chapter 345: Don’t Ignore Me

Chapter 345: Don’t Ignore Me

Two weeks had passed since Emma Hart was hospitalized after her car accident.

Mrs. Harris frequently brought the children to visit Emma. Fortunately, the kids were strong and independent, always cheerful whether visiting their mother or saying goodbye. This reassured Emma’s heart.

To ensure Emma had the peace and quiet needed for recovery, Damian Sterling had rejected all visit requests, including those from Emma’s family and friends like Amelia Davidson and Brianna Baker. They could only contact Emma via phone calls.

Emma found great comfort in her daily three-hour phone calls with Amelia Davidson. However, seeing his woman engrossed in conversations with someone else, even if it was Amelia, made Damian feel uneasy.

Finally, Damian could no longer tolerate it. He grabbed Emma’s phone from her hand, and coldly said to Amelia on the other end, "It’s time for rest. The patient needs peace. Take care of yourself too, Ms. Davidson."

"Yes, of course, Mr. Sterling. Goodnight, Mr. Sterling. Goodnight, Emma!" Amelia was startled by her boss’s icy tone and quickly ended the call.

Damian Sterling was still as cold and unlikable as ever, Amelia thought. She remembered how pleasant he had been during their island vacation. Poor Emma, so tightly controlled by her husband.

Amelia’s thoughts were spot on. The moment she hung up, Damian confiscated Emma’s phone, claiming that the phone’s radiation would hinder her brain’s recovery.

Emma puffed out her cheeks in frustration and glared at Damian with her big, expressive eyes, looking like an adorable little dumpling.

Seeing her cute and somewhat silly expression, Damian couldn’t help but laugh. "Alright, don’t be like that! It’s just no phone, you can do other things. Look," he said, snapping his fingers towards the door.

A servant entered respectfully, carrying a complete set of master-level painting supplies.

"Mr. Sterling, here is what you requested."

Damian motioned for the servant to place the painting box on the table. The servant quickly and carefully set it down, then bowed to Damian and Emma before leaving the room, eager not to intrude on their precious time together.

"This... this is amazing!" Emma Hart’s eyes lit up as she gazed at the painting set. Since the last design competition, she hadn’t touched a brush or paints.

"As I said, you can do other things, like this," Damian Sterling remarked, mimicking painting motions in the air with his right hand.

He approached Emma, placing his hand gently on her slender shoulder. "You know, I skipped an international meeting and a charity gala in B City just to be here with you. You can’t just chat with someone else and leave me hanging!" he said, playfully tapping her nose.

Emma, pretending to be haughty, replied, "You didn’t have to come! You could be dancing with beautiful women while I sit here and draw you looking ridiculous!"

"I insist on staying, to see how badly you can draw me," Damian responded with a mischievous smile, his lips curling up like a child plotting some prank.

"Go sit over there! I’m going to paint flowers!" Emma pointed to the sunflowers arranged near the sofa.

"Go ahead," Damian said, kissing her forehead before moving the sunflowers closer to her bedside.

Emma couldn’t help but admire his physique, noting how he looked even more muscular than last year. Meanwhile, she had somehow gained weight despite living together.

The room was filled with the fragrance of jasmine, and the golden sunflowers stood in stark contrast to the wintry scene outside the window. These were Emma’s favorite flowers, both blooming in the summer. To surprise her and win her heart, Damian had arranged for these flowers to be carefully cultivated in a greenhouse in Thailand. Originally intended as a Christmas gift, they now served to brighten her hospital room.

Emma picked up the paintbrush, her eyes and movements reflecting the focus of a true artist, completely absorbed in her task, oblivious to everything else around her. Seeing her so engrossed made Damian wonder if giving her this gift was a mistake. Who knew a paintbrush could become a third wheel?

Emma ignored everything but the sunflowers in front of her and the canvas in her hand, leaving Damian feeling both amused and a little sidelined by his thoughtful gift.

Damian Sterling sat on the sofa, mesmerized by the sight of Emma Hart engrossed in her painting. He found himself so captivated that he nearly drifted off to sleep.

"Done!" Emma announced twenty minutes later, proudly holding up her sunflower painting like a child seeking praise.

"It’s decent, I guess. But it’s just a sunflower. Can you paint me?" Damian challenged with a mischievous grin.

"Watch me!" Emma declared, her confidence shining as she picked up a sketching pencil. "Today, you’ll witness the masterpiece known as ’The Portrait of Damian Sterling’!" She arched an eyebrow and began sketching with swift, confident strokes.

Damian settled into the sofa, his eyes locked on Emma, filled with deep affection. If he could freeze time, he’d choose this moment, with just the two of them, their hearts silently communicating, even their breaths synchronized in tender harmony.

The sound of pencil against paper filled the room, mixing with Emma’s focused concentration. She was fully immersed in her task, yet her heart raced. Every detail of Damian’s face—his hair, eyebrows, lips, and those enchanting fox-like eyes—made her heart beat faster. She had to take deep breaths occasionally, fearing he might hear her racing pulse.

She had never observed Damian’s features this closely before, despite always knowing how handsome he was. Staring at him like this felt strangely intimate and made her blush.

Damian, with his seasoned experience in the realm of romance, noticed Emma’s slight nervousness. He could tell she was flustered, and it amused him greatly.

"Darling!" Damian called out softly.

Emma was so startled by his gentle call that she nearly dropped her pencil.

"What are you doing?" she asked, lifting her head only to meet Damian’s teasing gaze. She quickly looked away, blushing and smiling shyly.

"Nothing, just wondering how much longer you’ll be," Damian replied, his lips curling into a playful smile, like a child who had just pulled off a successful prank.
