Overbearing CEO's Contract Love
Chapter 344: The Accident

Chapter 344: The Accident

"Damian Sterling, put me down! Put me down right now," Emma Hart demanded, patting Damian Sterling’s shoulder insistently.

"Damian, is this really okay? How could you talk back to your grandfather? He said... he said something that makes sense. I have nothing, I’m not pretty, I don’t have an education, no background, no family. I don’t deserve you," Emma’s voice cracked as tears streamed down her face. Her words were soft, but Damian heard them clearly.

"Emma Hart, listen to me. I love you because of who you are, not because of your looks, your education, or your background. I don’t need a woman’s background to define me. In my eyes, you are always the most beautiful and the most important person. You are my family, and I am yours. No one can separate us, no one will ever tear us apart," Damian’s voice was soothing as he tried to comfort her, but it seemed his words only made her cry harder. For once, the usually composed Damian Sterling was at a loss. This woman, she really was a handful.

"Please stop crying, okay?" Damian started his second attempt at comforting her.

"Can we go back now? I don’t want to stay here anymore. I’m scared."

"Okay."

On the way back, for some reason, Emma insisted on driving herself. She said that no one else should drive the car Damian had given her. But Damian offered to drive it back for her, and she refused, saying she’d come back for it when she felt better. Yet, she was adamant about driving it back herself this time. With no other choice, Damian had to agree.

However, Damian couldn’t help but worry, so he quietly followed her in his own car.

The journey was unusually difficult, with an unexpected amount of traffic. Emma drove with great difficulty, and every time Damian offered to help, she refused. Left with no other option, he just continued to follow her closely.

At that moment, the car in front of Emma Hart suddenly braked hard. Caught off guard, Emma couldn’t stop in time and crashed into it. Instantly, her head began to buzz, and she felt a warm trickle on her forehead. Touching it, she found her hand covered in blood. Normally, Emma wasn’t squeamish about blood, but now she felt numb, her only sensation being the struggle to breathe. She felt like she might be dying and desperately wanted to see Damian Sterling one last time. There were so many things she hadn’t said to him, so many experiences they hadn’t shared. She dreamed of watching their children grow up together, of a future that had always seemed brighter than her past.

Her earlier life had been so unhappy, filled with hardship, and she had just begun to taste happiness with Damian. She didn’t want to lose that now. For the first time, she didn’t want to die. She wanted to grow old with Damian, to face countless challenges together. But why was fate so cruel to her? As these thoughts raced through her mind, she faintly heard Damian’s voice. She tried to open her eyes to see him, but the pain was too overwhelming. Gradually, her consciousness faded.

"Emma! Emma, wake up! You can’t leave me, you can’t be this heartless. Wake up, now! I command you! Don’t you want to know why I love you? Visit my school? Become a designer? How can you leave me like this? Wake up, and I’ll tell you everything, I’ll do anything you want. Please, just wake up!" Damian Sterling’s frantic cries echoed through the night. He couldn’t lose Emma Hart. She was his only family, and their children needed their mother. He felt utterly helpless, clutching her as he ran towards help, memories of their time together flashing through his mind like a movie reel. The more he thought, the more his heart broke.

Finally reaching the hospital, Damian Sterling rushed Emma Hart to the intensive care unit, frantically summoning the best neurosurgeon available. He knew he couldn’t live without her; he had to save her at any cost.

"Mr. Sterling, your wife will be alright. She has some intracranial hemorrhaging and a few superficial injuries, but we’ve treated them. She should wake up in 24 hours. There’s no need to worry," the lead surgeon informed him as he emerged from the operating room. Seeing Damian unkempt and covered in blood was a shock. The renowned Damian Sterling, usually so immaculate, was now a picture of dishevelment and desperation. It was clear that his love for Emma was profound and unwavering, so the doctor hurried to reassure him.

"Thank you, thank you, doctor. Thank you," Damian repeated, sinking to the floor in relief, his eyes vacant, the tension visibly draining from his body. The doctor, never having heard Damian express gratitude so fervently, was startled and quickly extricated his nearly crushed hands from Damian’s grip. "Mr. Sterling, please go see Miss Emma," he said hastily, retreating from the intense scene. The doctor’s hands still tingled from Damian’s desperate hold.

24 hours later.

Damian hadn’t closed his eyes for a moment. He couldn’t afford to sleep; he didn’t want to sleep. He needed to see Emma wake up with his own eyes. Her coma left him too anxious to rest. But exhaustion eventually claimed him, and he fell into a deep slumber beside her bed.

On the bed, Emma’s hand twitched. Slowly, she began to regain consciousness, her dry lips barely forming the word, "Water." The faint sound roused Damian. He opened his eyes to see Emma awake, his heart leaping with joy.

"Emma, Emma, you’re awake! How do you feel? Does anything hurt? Should I call the doctor? Are you thirsty? I’ll get you some water. Just lie still, don’t move. Wait for me, I’ll be right back," Damian’s words tumbled out in a rush, his demeanor transformed from the previous day. It seemed that fate had finally shown them mercy. After everything they had endured to be together, it appeared the heavens had no intention of separating them now.
