Chapter 293: It’s Twins!
"You should get some sleep," Damien Sterling decided to share the good news tomorrow instead, fearing she wouldn’t be able to sleep otherwise. "Don’t worry, I’m here."
Truly exhausted, Emma Hart found comfort in Damien’s gentle, magnetic voice and slowly drifted off to sleep.
"You all should rest too; I’ll stay here with her," Damien said with a rare smile, surprising Harper Clark. She hadn’t expected the typically icy boss to have such a charming smile.
"Alright then, we’ll head out first! Daddy-to-be!" Ryan Garcia teased Damien playfully.
"Get out!" Damien growled, his smile almost twisting with irritation.
"I’ll walk you out," Ryan offered Harper outside the hospital. He hadn’t expected Mr. Sterling Senior’s matchmaking attempt to pair him with a model he’d chosen himself! And she turned out to be just his type, sunny and cheerful, like a lively magpie, chattering away but endearing.
"It’s okay, Ryan, I can get home on my own. It’s not far," Harper declined Ryan’s offer.
"Then... let me at least walk you to your car!" Ryan felt a bit awkward being rejected so quickly.
Time skip to the next morning.
Emma Hart woke up early. Though a nurse had massaged her last night, easing some discomfort, she still felt nauseous occasionally. Feeling something firm and warm against her leg, she sat up and saw Damien had spent the night by her hospital bed, using his arm as a pillow.
Through the small window in the door, she saw young nurses peeking in, clearly curious about the woman who had the city’s king-like figure watching over her all night.
"Ah, you’re awake," Damien murmured as he sensed movement on the bed and slowly came to.
"Mr. Sterling, I’m sorry, I..." Emma struggled to find the right words.
"Why apologize? I am the father of our children," Damien said tenderly, caressing her hair.
"I have great news," Damien said, his face brightening with a smile. "You’re having twins!"
"Twins!" Emma exclaimed, overwhelmed with joy.
Even she couldn’t believe that she was carrying two little lives inside her.
"Are you feeling okay?" Damien Sterling asked.
"No, I’m fine," Emma Hart responded.
"Then let’s head home!" Damien declared, lifting Emma effortlessly and making their way out, both with joyous expressions on their faces.
Inside the Sterling Group’s villa.
"Miss Emma, you’re back! How are you feeling? Mr. Sterling called early this morning to have me prepare a nutritious soup for you!" Mrs. Harris was overjoyed to see Emma, yet unaware of her delightful news.
"Thank you, Mrs. Harris. I have some wonderful news—I’m expecting twins!" Emma grasped Mrs. Harris’s hands tightly; their bond was even deeper than the one she shared with her own mother.
"Twins! Congratulations, Miss Emma, and congratulations to Mr. Sterling!" Mrs. Harris exclaimed.
"Mrs. Harris, the nutritionist I’ve hired will be here shortly. She’ll be working with you to take care of Emma in the coming months," Damien added.
"Yes, Mr. Sterling."
"Let’s eat!"
Emma’s mood had greatly improved, and her appetite soared. She consumed an entire pot of nutritious chicken soup with red dates and four bowls of white rice porridge, astonishing Damien, who remembered times when she couldn’t even finish one bowl. Now, he was absolutely dumbfounded.
"Ahem..." Emma choked on her juice in her haste.
Damien patted her back and wiped her mouth with a doting expression, teasing, "Okay, that’s enough, or you’ll turn into a sow. The doctor said you need to control your diet and exercise more."
"I know..." Emma replied somewhat reluctantly. She wanted to eat more, but she dared not talk back to Damien.
A maid entered the dining room and respectfully informed, "Mr. Sterling, the health manager has arrived."
"Let her in," Damien said, his demeanor instantly turning stern again. His tenderness was reserved for Emma alone.
Then a tall woman dressed in designer athletic wear entered the dining room. "Mr. Sterling, Mrs. Sterling, hello, I’m Ella Moore, your personal health manager. I graduated from University A with a degree in Health Management, minoring in Sports, Boxing, and Yoga, just returned from studying abroad."
Emma was taken aback by the string of introductions, impressed by the expertise Ella brought.
"Alright, from now on, you will be in charge of planning Mrs. Sterling’s diet and exercise routine," Damien Sterling replied. "I have to head back to the office now. Keep up the good work." Damien flashed Emma a mischievous grin before turning to leave.
"What does that mean?" Emma felt a chill run down her spine.
"Mrs. Sterling, let’s start with our daily routine now!" Ella Moore’s voice, authoritative and resonant like a military officer’s, struck a chord of dread in Emma.
"Okay..." Emma murmured, a sense of foreboding settling in.
In the living room, Emma listened to Ella Moore outline her daily regimen.
"The foundation of good health starts with early to bed and early to rise. From today, Mrs. Sterling must develop a routine of sleeping by ten and waking at six sharp. I’ve already handed a menu to Mrs. Harris, ensuring daily meal variety and a weekly rotation of fruits. You’ll nap for half an hour post-lunch and then do an hour of prenatal yoga, followed by another session before bedtime..." Emma felt like running away from home—this was more daunting than being locked up by Damien himself!
"Let’s get started now!" commanded Ella, and Emma’s heart nearly leapt out of her chest... Oh, the babies inside her, please save your mother from this ordeal!
Later that night, just after nine, Damien returned home to find Emma already bathed, sprawled in a ’starfish’ position on the bed.
"Mr. Sterling, why are you doing this to me..."
"I’m doing this for your own good. The doctor said that given your current condition, there’s a high risk of complications during labor, and it could affect the babies’ health as well."
"Mmm..."
"Get some sleep. We’ll keep at it tomorrow."
This brief exchange came from Damien, who was drying his scalp with a towel, and Emma, the exhausted pregnant woman sprawled on the bed.
Emma’s thoughts drifted to the ceiling as Damien turned off the light and tucked her in.
His large, rugged arm wrapped around her from behind. "Sleep well, good night... Emma Hart."
"Mmm..."
