Overbearing CEO's Contract Love
Chapter 194: Delivering the Umbrella

Chapter 194: Delivering the Umbrella

If Damien Sterling had wanted Emma Hart to be in the know, he would have supported her from the get-go. Delivering documents was a trivial matter that could easily be assigned to any driver, yet Sterling hadn’t done so. Their recent interaction seemed tense, suggesting only one possible reason: Damien Sterling preferred to keep Emma Hart in the dark.

The realization dawned on the assistant, who couldn’t help but find amusement in Sterling’s behavior. Even the most powerful executives have their moments of sentimentality.

Down at the company’s entrance, Emma Hart was about to cross the street to the overpass when suddenly, the sky opened up, and rain began to pour, quickly intensifying. Large raindrops soaked Emma as she hurried towards the bus stop ahead.

Finally reaching shelter, she was damp but thankfully not drenched, a relief considering the wellbeing of the little one she was carrying.

Suddenly, something covered her from above; lifting her head, Emma saw an umbrella, held by a young woman with a cherubic face squinting at her, "You looked in such a rush; where are you off to?"

Holding her documents, Emma replied, "Off to work." The girl glanced at the building across the street, "You work in that building, right? So do I. You look familiar."

Emma felt a twinge of embarrassment at the girl’s recognition, cursed with an inability to remember faces.

As the rain lightened, the girl handed the umbrella to Emma, "Here, you can use this. I’m heading back to the office."

Emma watched the girl run off, realizing she wouldn’t catch up, especially with work waiting. But since they worked in the same building, Emma decided to return the umbrella the next time they met.

Unbeknownst to Emma, from a vantage point a hundred meters above, a man was observing her every move.

In the executive office at the pinnacle of the building, dark clouds rolled in, casting a shadow over the bustling streets below. From his vantage point, Damien Sterling could spot the diminutive figure of Emma Hart amidst the crowd, her every movement etched into his mind. The sight of her umbrella prompted Damien to turn back to his desk and bury himself in his work.

The office door swung open as Logan Harrington stepped in, causing Damien to sigh in resignation and toss his pen aside. "Just when I sought a moment of peace, you show up," Damien remarked.

Logan’s usual vibrancy was replaced by a sullen demeanor, prompting a light chuckle from Damien. "I never took you for the sentimental type," he teased.

Despite his gloom, Logan slouched into the chair across Damien, stretching his legs onto Damien’s desk, provoking Damien’s well-known aversion to disorder. "Get your feet off my desk," Damien demanded.

Logan glanced down at his feet then back up at Damien with a pitiful look. "Given my current state, can’t you muster a shred of sympathy?" he pleaded.

"Only the pitiful find themselves pitiable," Damien retorted bluntly, never one to mince words with Logan or anyone else for that matter.

Their exchange was interrupted by an assistant bearing a competitive bid report for Damien’s review. "Mr. Sterling, we’ve become the main contenders against Westmore in a project, exceeding our budget if we proceed," the assistant reported.

Damien responded with determination, "Follow through. Increase the budget. Moreover, secure every project involving Westmore at any cost." The assistant nodded and left, albeit without understanding Damien’s motive but knew better than to question it.

Logan, having lost interest in the corporate affairs, only half-listened. "You speak as if you’re not lovesick yourself," he scoffed, observing Damien’s change of behavior.

Normally, Damien was more spontaneous, easily persuaded to leave the office for leisure. Now, however, his routine was confined to the company and his home, embodying the life of a true workaholic.

Seeing Damien Sterling engrossed in his work and ignoring him completely, Logan Harrington’s patience finally wore thin. Unlike Damien, Logan didn’t possess such commendable endurance.

When the secretary brought in coffee at three in the afternoon—a routine of Damien’s—Logan immediately went over and took the coffee from the secretary’s hands, saying, "Alright, I’ve got this."

Logan Harrington’s obsequious demeanor was so over the top that it made Damien Sterling feel nauseous. "Mr. President, my dear Mr. President," Logan said in a coquettish tone as he approached.

Damien began searching for something with his hand, and Logan quickly offered, "What are you looking for? Let me help you."

"A mirror," Damien replied with a glance, unable to bear looking a second time.

"A mirror? What does a big guy like you need a mirror for?"

Damien then took out his phone, switched it to selfie mode, and handed it to Logan, "Here, see for yourself how repulsive you are."

Snatching Damien’s phone, Logan fussed with his hair and said, "Just one word, handsome!" After that, a gloomy expression returned to his face. Looking puzzled, he asked, "Speaking of which, how come my Amelia doesn’t like me at all? She doesn’t give me the time of day!"

Amelia? Damien looked at Logan in astonishment, having never seen him so infatuated. Was this man finally experiencing the dawn of affection? Perhaps because he had skipped this phase earlier, floating among many women, and now he felt the need to catch up to that missed period of early affection.

It seemed every step in life was crucial and not to be easily skipped. When would this cycle of grievances end?

Observing Logan’s earnest expression, Damien realized, despite not knowing much, that Logan could at least be useful in running errands for his lady.

"To win a woman over, you must first get on the good side of her friends," Damien said in a low voice.

Logan turned sharply, furrowing his brows at Damien. Then, his expression became serious, and he grabbed Damien’s hand, shaking it excitedly, "Bro, I’ve known you for so long, and this is the first time I’ve heard you say something so sensible!"

Damien looked coldly at Logan, who seemed almost crazed. It appeared that over the years, Logan had never truly listened to him, or else he wouldn’t have come to such a conclusion.
