Overbearing CEO's Contract Love -
Chapter 182: Courting Favor
Chapter 182: Courting Favor
Returning to the office, Emma Hart happened upon Sophia Greenwood, who was on her way out.
"Emma, perfect timing. I was just about to call you. Did you get the purchase?" Sophia asked, her heels clicking on the floor as she prepared to leave, her bag slung over her shoulder.
Handing over the items, Emma nodded, "Got it."
Sophia Greenwood’s eyes fell on the box, and while asking, she planned to open the box and take a look. After all, the person she was going to give it to this time was an important customer of the company, and it was definitely not something that ordinary things could handle.
The moment Sophia opened the box and saw its contents, her brow furrowed. "This..." The item was eerily familiar, reminiscent of something Damien Sterling had purchased during a vacation in England with her, acquired at an auction. How could it have ended up with Emma?
"Is this genuine?" Sophia remembered Damien’s fondness for the item, which he’d moved from house to house, always placing it in his most frequented rooms, a clear sign of its significance to him.
Emma nodded affirmatively. Damien surely didn’t have the habit of buying replicas.
Sophia looked puzzled. Had Emma acquired a counterfeit from the recommended store? Yet, the item didn’t seem like a fake.
Holding onto a sliver of hope, Sophia asked, "Did you buy it from that store?"
Emma thought it best not to stir trouble, "Yes, I did."
With a mix of skepticism and acceptance, Sophia took the box, "Okay, then."
As Sophia left, Emma exhaled a sigh of relief, realizing her ability to lie smoothly still needed work.
Midway through her journey, Sophia received a frantic call from the store owner, utterly bewildered. "Sophia, what’s going on?"
"What do you mean?"
"Why would my store suddenly get smashed? Aren’t you and the president of the Sterling Group childhood friends? Aren’t your families close?"
Sophia’s brows knitted together as she recalled the item Emma had handed over. "Slow down and explain."
"You haven’t heard about this yet?" The boss paused, realizing that even Sophia Greenwood’s influence might not suffice this time. "Sophia, it was all because a girl accidentally damaged something in our store, and then... Mr. Sterling had my shop wrecked!"
"All over a woman?" Sophia Greenwood sought confirmation, knowing Damien Sterling to be more measured. Why such impulsiveness now? Time and again, Sophia reminded herself that Damien couldn’t possibly care that much about Emma Hart, yet the repeated events screamed otherwise.
Damien’s actions towards Emma were undeniably different—wrecking a shop, gifting favored items; weren’t these signs telling enough?
The boss hesitated, admitting in a timid tone, "Although... the incident was partly our clerk’s fault—she could have caught the item. But the punishment... it was too severe."
"Given his temper, you’re lucky he didn’t set fire to your house!" Sophia Greenwood angrily ended the call, reflecting on her leniency towards Emma Hart.
In the company’s design department, a man stood behind Emma Hart.
"It smells nice here!" Emma turned to find Logan Harrington.
What was he doing here?
Observing Logan, who always dressed with care, it seemed today’s outfit was particularly well-chosen. Emma stood up, noting Logan’s hair color and the scent wafting from him.
"What are you here for?"
"Exude charm," Logan remarked casually, his gaze scanning the surroundings as if searching for something.
Emma could tell from his look; he was definitely on a lookout. His comment about attracting attention was spot-on.
Opening her dessert, Emma enjoyed the flavor, then turned to see Logan’s distracted demeanor. "Alright, stop looking. Your sister Amelia isn’t here."
Logan seemed disappointed by Emma’s revelation, moving closer as if she had seen through his intentions. "Then where did my sister Amelia go?"
"Your sister Amelia..." Emma teased, taking a bite of her dessert and deliberately keeping Logan in suspense, who watched her eagerly, "I don’t know."
Just as a spark ignited in Logan Harrington’s eyes, it was doused by Emma Hart. "Oh Emma, that’s not very noble of you," he chided.
A woman, swift as the wind in her high heels and carrying a coffee, approached Emma Hart directly. "Emma..."
That familiar voice was...
When Emma turned around, Logan had already stepped forward, "Sister Amelia."
Amelia Davidson frowned at Logan, then glanced at Emma, "The hotpot restaurant owner?"
Emma leaned in to whisper, "Not just the hotpot restaurant owner. He’s also the CEO of Harrington Global Enterprises."
Amelia laughed off the information; titles like CEO held no interest for her anymore.
Logan circled Amelia, offering his assistance, "Where are you headed next? I can take you."
"Do you need any help?"
...
Logan ceaselessly sought opportunities to curry favor, clearly to no avail with Amelia.
Amelia stopped, turned, and rolled her eyes at Logan, "Doesn’t Mr. Harrington have anything else to do?"
"You are all I want to do," Logan replied with a raised eyebrow.
Amelia disliked this playboy attitude even more.
Stepping forward, Amelia found Logan blocking her way, "Where to?"
"The restroom!" she articulated, waiting for Logan to move aside. She had dealt with persistent people before, but never someone as clingy as him.
Logan spent the entire afternoon there, still following Amelia out of the office when work ended.
Emma’s phone rang, "Meet at the usual place."
"Where are we going next?"
"Choosing dresses."
"Choosing dresses again? Why?" Emma dreaded the thought, hating the pretense required at formal events.
Unbeknownst to Emma, Damian Sterling, who usually scorned such gatherings, seemed more eager to attend them now, if only to have a legitimate reason to have her by his side.
Dress selection was always a chore for Emma, and this time was no different. Surrounded by eager staff presenting various dresses, Emma turned helplessly to Damian, who was lounging on a sofa, "You choose."
"This time, you pick," Damian insisted.
In the past, he had always dictated every choice, including her attire. How she wished for a day he’d say, "Stay or leave, it’s your decision."
But she dismissed such immature thoughts as wishful thinking.
