Chapter 159: Saving It for the Kid to See

"Are you expecting me to be proficient in everything?" Damian Sterling raised an eyebrow, his voice laced with disbelief.

"Is there anything Mr. Sterling can’t do?" Emma Hart laughed, "So, it’s riding a bike." Her laughter grew as she continued.

"From the moment I was born, I had three nannies swirling around me. Until I was five, nannies took care of all my basic needs. When I started school at six, I was chauffeured back and forth until I graduated from high school. After getting my driver’s license, I drove myself, until later, I had drivers to take me places. When would I ever have had the chance to learn something like this?"

Damian’s rationale sounded irrefutable.

It almost seemed as if not knowing how to ride a bike was somehow the fault of his three nannies, six caretakers, and nine drivers.

Forget it. The upbringing of the wealthy, like Damian Sterling, couldn’t possibly be compared to that of ordinary girls like Emma Hart.

Emma, standing by with a bicycle, beckoned to Damian, "Come on, I’ll teach you."

Damian remained skeptical, stepping aside, "I’m not learning."

"Please~" Emma cooed.

Damian glanced at Emma, "I don’t want to waste time on such trivial matters."

Emma pushed the bike toward Damian and took his hand, placing it on the bike, "Can’t you do something without a specific purpose for once? Just relax, okay?"

Damian reluctantly took the bike from Emma’s hands.

Damian straddling it, Emma followed behind, steadying the handlebars, "Just pedal forward, I’ll keep you balanced from the back."

With Emma’s guidance, Damian pedaled tentatively forward.

With her support, the bike felt surprisingly stable, a stark contrast to his fearless experiences driving cars.

Yet, the bicycle induced a sense of fear in him, with Emma continuously encouraging him to keep going.

Round and round he went, slowly finding a sense of achievement in cycling.

This feeling of accomplishment, he realized, was even more exhilarating than winning an F1 championship or receiving his university diploma.

"I’m actually doing it!" Damian exclaimed excitedly, turning to find Emma standing a short distance behind him, hands free and waving at him.

Realizing she had let go, Damian looked ahead, feeling a sudden rush of nervousness that sent the bike tumbling to one side.

Emma rushed over from afar.

Witnessing Damian Sterling’s sole moment of disarray, sprawled on the ground, was a rare sight indeed for Emma Hart.

Instead of rushing to his aid, she drew her phone from her pocket, capturing this unusual sight of Damian on the ground.

Seated on the ground, Damian called out, "Aren’t you going to come over?"

Only then did Emma put away her phone, saying, "Of course, I had to record this moment. It’ll be a story to tell our kids one day, showing them just how their dad could be caught in such an awkward predicament."

Her words flowed naturally, yet she was oblivious to the warmth they carried.

It wasn’t until she saw Damian slowly lift his head, his eyes brimming with warmth and surprise, that Emma realized the significance of what she had just said.

Instantly, her cheeks flushed with embarrassment, and she hurriedly averted her gaze from Damian’s eyes.

What Emma dreaded most was the affection that seemed to surface unintentionally in Damian’s gaze.

Under the soft yellow glow of the street lamps, with trees rustling in the gentle breeze, everything felt serene and beautiful.

Observing Emma under the streetlights, Damian was struck by how delicate she appeared, her slender silhouette casting a fragile shadow on the ground.

He pondered the sacrifices this petite woman would have to make to bear his child, stirring a profound sense of protectiveness within him.

Emma quickly righted a nearby bicycle.

Just as she turned to leave, Damian extended his hand, "Help me up."

Emma was skeptical. Surely Damian, having fallen from a bike, could get up on his own? "I’m not helping you."

"Then who will, if not you?" Damian insisted, pulling Emma towards him with enough strength to rise.

Once up, he wrapped his arms around Emma tightly, holding her as if fearing she might escape.

"What’s gotten into you now?" Emma wondered, puzzled by Damian’s increasing grip.

"You’re hurting me!" she exclaimed.

Damian’s hands roamed over her, prompting her confused inquiry, "What are you looking for?"

Damien Sterling’s handsome brows relaxed as he whispered into Emma Hart’s ear, "Make sure to save this moment on your phone, to show our son someday."

"Our son?"

Emma couldn’t hide her discontent, "How do you know it will be a boy?"

Her words carried a tinge of bitterness.

To her, it seemed the Sterling Group only desired a child to continue the lineage, as if they were royalty awaiting an heir.

Emma already felt a pang of sympathy for their unborn child.

If it were a boy, he would undoubtedly bear the weight of leading the Sterling Group.

And if a girl, she imagined her growing up in an environment that might stifle her freedom.

What response did Emma expect from Damien?

Surprisingly, his gaze softened, shedding the usual sternness for a gentler demeanor. "If it’s a boy, he’ll help me protect you."

Taking the bicycle from her, Damien’s actions prompted Emma to question, "What, you’re going to ride again?"

Recalling Damien’s earlier tumble, his persistence seemed almost comical.

Yet, Damien confidently mounted the bicycle, declaring, ""Of course I can’t let my child laugh at his father.""

Turning to Emma, he beckoned, "Hop on."

"I’d rather not. I don’t plan on falling with you," Emma retorted, skeptical of his newfound confidence.

"Do you really have so little faith in me?" Damien’s gaze was steadfast, locking eyes with Emma.

Somehow, Emma found herself drawn to him, ending up seated behind him on the bicycle.

Damien pushed off the ground with one foot and pedaled fiercely with the other.

With his arms steadying their course, the bicycle smoothly took off.

Emma, thrilled from behind, exclaimed, "You’re doing it!"

Damien couldn’t help but feel proud, "Was there ever any doubt?"

Though unsure how he suddenly mastered riding, Damien felt empowered by the presence of Emma and the thought of their future child.

Meanwhile, Damien had been occupied with a project in City B, prompting him to dispatch his assistant early in the morning.

The assistant, puzzled, followed Damien, "Mr. Sterling, why are we here inspecting this plot?"

Damien, walking ahead, mused about the potential of the land, "This place has promise, but it’s only as good as its development. Otherwise, it’s merely wasteland."

The terrain in City B, unlike City A, was mostly hilly and uneven.

As they walked, the assistant briefed Damien on the latest moves of the Westmore Group and Matthew Taylor’s plans, keeping him informed of the business landscape.
