Chapter 149: The Shameless Jerk
Emma Hart awoke in a fervently warm embrace, her eyes fluttering open amidst confusion, her head throbbing slightly.
As her vision gradually cleared, a magnified handsome face came into view.
Blinking twice, she struggled to process this sudden closeness.
Upon recognizing the man in front of her, she instinctively pushed against his chest and moved back, only to tumble to the floor due to her proximity to the bed’s edge.
"Ah—" The shock of her bare skin hitting the cool floor made Emma Hart gasp, and a quick glance at her unclothed body brought a flush to her cheeks.
The noise stirred the man on the bed, who woke up to see Emma on the floor, his expression darkening with a dangerously low pressure enveloping him.
Just as Emma was about to speak, something fell onto her forehead.
Picking it up, she realized it was a fever-reducing patch.
Her memories began to piece together—someone had applied the patch to her, wiped her body with a warm towel, and finally, she was enveloped in an incredibly warm embrace that eased the discomfort of her fever.
"Feeling better? Is sitting on the floor comfortable for you?" Damian Sterling’s tone was ice-cold as he looked down at Emma sitting on the ground.
With one long stride, he got out of bed and scooped her up from the floor.
Being lifted into the air like this, Emma suddenly remembered the fear she felt being carried by Damian the night before and immediately started to struggle.
However, this time, as she wriggled, she fell out of Damian’s arms and back onto the floor.
"Ouch..." Emma’s cry echoed, the sensation of her buttocks hitting the cold floor was not only chilling but also painfully solid.
"Hmph, you brought this on yourself," Damian Sterling scoffed, bending down to pick her up again.
This time, Emma dared not move, fearing her rear end would suffer even more.
After tossing her onto the bed, Damian wrapped her up in the blanket, while he sat at the edge of the bed, checking messages on his phone.
Still stinging from his earlier cold remarks, Emma’s mind lingered on the previous night’s events, her resentment towards Damian Sterling growing.
All she had done was take up a part-time job, only to be berated, carried off, and drenched in cold water by him—it was inhumane!
With these thoughts swirling in her mind, her anger grew, and she decided to turn her back to him, clutching the blanket and pretending to sleep.
After finishing the messages on his phone, Damian Sterling looked back to find Emma Hart had wrapped herself tightly, resembling a cocoon.
He reached out, intending to loosen the blankets wrapped snugly around her, but the moment his hand touched the blanket, Emma turned to glare at him defensively, snapping, "What do you want? Stay away from me!"
Such a reaction made Damian’s heart sink, his gaze turning icy, devoid of any warmth.
"Are you that afraid of me?" He took a few steps closer, only to see Emma reflexively dodge, as if avoiding something terrifying.
Emma’s guarded demeanor reignited the frustration Damian had suppressed because of her fever the night before.
Narrowing his eyes, he looked at her as if pondering how to deal with her.
Sensing the tension in the air, Emma shrank back, eyeing Damian warily.
"Emma Hart, you really have no shame. You were so eager to seduce those men last night, and now you’re scared of me?" Damian looked at her with scorn, his disdainful gaze stinging Emma.
Accused of being shameless? It was this arrogant man who spoke recklessly without knowing the full story!
Anger made Emma’s head ache, and she couldn’t help but retort, "Who are you calling shameless? I was just doing my job as a waitress. It was the manager who said they were short on people and asked me to fill in!"
Feeling utterly wronged, Emma was just trying to earn some extra money, and now she found herself in this terrible situation.
"It’s too late for explanations now. Do you think I would believe you?" Damian dismissed Emma’s defense with a cold glance, effectively silencing her.
Frustrated and unable to vent, Emma got up to find clothes, noticing a set of women’s attire conveniently placed beside the bed, and quickly dressed.
By the time she was done, Damian was already at the door, dressed and looking at her with a cold, merciless expression, "Reflect on your actions in this room. Don’t let me find out you’ve left in the next two days, or I’ll strip you bare and throw you outside!"
The threat made Emma shiver, her eyes wide with fear and shock at Damian’s words.
Though she knew Damian was a ruthless and cold man capable of anything, she never expected him to say such things. It turns out she was mistaken!
"You are despicable!" Emma Hart yelled furiously at Damian Sterling, who merely responded with a cold glance before opening the door and exiting, instructing two bodyguards to stand guard and prevent Emma Hart from leaving.
"Damn you, Damian Sterling, you vile man! I hope you never see another sunrise!" Fuming, Emma kicked the nightstand by her bed, feeling she might just die of anger one of these days.
Having left the room, Damian Sterling stood by the door for a while, listening.
Emma Hart’s loud curses and insults were unmistakable, their volume defeating even the well-insulated walls.
Imagining the furious expression on the face of the little firecracker inside, a slight smile played at the corners of his mouth, showing a mood quite contrary to the stern anger he had shown Emma Hart just moments before.
"Mr. President, the organizers have invited you to join them for lunch," his assistant stated respectfully, standing at Damian’s side without looking elsewhere.
After the sounds from the room had finally ceased, Damian Sterling moved a few steps away and told his assistant, "Bring the jade Buddha statue with us later. After last night’s incident, it’s only proper to offer an apology and make amends."
His actions the previous night had been somewhat excessive, and among those he had dealt with, two were fairly influential. It wouldn’t do to have the host clean up his mess.
However, to Damian Sterling, those individuals were of no consequence. In the villa hosting the banquet, no one’s status surpassed Damian Sterling’s.
The assistant acknowledged, then listened as Damian Sterling added, "Check who was in charge here last night. If it was her decision to put Emma Hart on stage, tell their general manager to fire her."
The icy tone sent a chill down the assistant’s spine, who promptly responded with respect.
