Overbearing CEO's Contract Love -
Chapter 130: Can You Forgive Me?
Chapter 130: Can You Forgive Me?
Emma Hart held a steadfast belief that Damien Sterling would indeed find her; she was certain of it.
Abruptly, the ceaseless flow of traffic came to a halt.
Once the vehicles in front passed, no others followed, leaving the highway deserted within a minute.
Emma looked into the distance, puzzled by the sudden change.
Soon after, the sound of an approaching vehicle broke the silence.
A light pierced through the darkness, illuminating the path ahead as a car sped towards her, coming to a halt right in front of Emma.
A man emerged from the car, umbrella in hand, striding quickly towards her.
Emma’s vision blurred, unsure if it was due to rain or tears.
A smile spread across her face as she moved towards Damien, who, seeing Emma step forward, hurriedly closed the distance to stand in front of her.
The world around Emma seemed to dim, and she felt herself lightly falling into Damien’s embrace.
Having held on for so long, her resolve crumbled at the sight of him.
With him by her side, she felt a comforting assurance that everything would be alright.
White walls and the strong scent of disinfectant filled the air...
"Where am I?"
Opening her eyes, Emma was met with Damien’s intimidating, stern face. From the depth of his eyes, she detected a flicker of displeasure.
It seemed she had caused trouble the day before.
"My child..." Emma’s hand instinctively moved to her stomach, thinking of her unborn child.
"Don’t touch!" Damien said coldly.
Emma paused, confused by his meaning.
His somber gaze seemed to convey a message, his angry expression... Emma dared not think further.
"It can’t be, it just can’t!" Emma said fearfully.
Seeing her anxious look, Damien sat down, his voice steady, "This time, no. But next time, who knows?"
"What are you saying?" Emma fixed her gaze on him.
"The child is fine," he stated coldly, though his words carried an undertone of reprimand.
Relief washed over Emma upon hearing his words.
If something had happened to her child because of her, she knew the guilt would be unbearable.
"Thank goodness nothing happened."
Hearing Emma Hart’s words seemed to ignite a fury within Damien Sterling, his gaze piercing and icy as he looked at her, "Emma Hart, if you can’t take care of yourself, then let me do it for you!"
"I..." Emma, facing an angered Damien, found herself at a loss for words.
Surprisingly, she wasn’t upset; instead, she felt a warmth that made her smile unwittingly.
Damien caught her smile, "You still dare to laugh?"
"Why can’t I?" Emma pouted slightly, looking at Damien, "What’s wrong with me smiling? Who needs your care?"
"You’re not going to that job anymore."
"I’ve just started to feel a sense of achievement from my work, how can you just decide I’m not going anymore?"
"Achievement? Your sense of achievement comes from drinking? From being with those men, from getting drenched in the rain on the highway at midnight? Emma Hart, what exactly do you want?"
Emma, seeing the rage in Damien, got off the bed and approached him, clutching at his shirt, "I know I was wrong."
"What did you say?" Damien clearly heard her.
"I said, I was wrong."
"Where were you wrong?" he asked coldly.
"I..." Emma playfully protested, "Ah, don’t make me list everything, treating me like a child."
"Where do you resemble an adult?"
Emma glanced down at her body and joked, "Where am I not?"
Immediately, she regretted her words, having made a risqué joke about herself.
She had laid it all out there, and it would be a shame if Damien couldn’t forgive her after that.
"That’s the least adult-like thing about you!" Damien glanced at Emma, his tone cold but serious.
"Damien Sterling!" Emma retorted boldly.
Damien, witnessing Emma’s miraculous transformation, let a smile break through the paleness on his face.
Emma, still miffed, saw his smile and couldn’t help but return it.
It turns out, smiles are contagious, and one can indeed smile simply because another has.
Emma nudged Damien playfully, "So, have you forgiven me?"
"No."
"Hey, don’t be like that! Forgive me, will you? Please?"
"We’ll see!"
"Oh come on, please... forgive me..." Emma followed Damien around the room, both of them circling in an endless dance.
The next day, Emma Hart woke up treading carefully, apprehensive about Damien Sterling bringing up the topic from yesterday.
The two hadn’t exactly agreed, but Damien had left without expressing any opposition to her going to work.
Emma believed this meant Damien had, in his way, consented.
"The bus route has changed," Damien Sterling mentioned.
"What?" Emma was puzzled.
Without another word, Damien left the villa in his car.
Emma watched, confused about what he meant until she walked to the gate and saw what usually was nearly a mile’s walk to the nearest bus stop had inexplicably moved right to their doorstep.
With this new stop, Emma could now board the bus directly outside the villa, sparing her the long walk.
As the bus arrived and Emma boarded, the driver looked at her curiously.
She was the only one getting on at this stop.
Glancing back at the villas, a well-known affluent area, the driver expressed his confusion, "You’re taking the bus?"
Emma nodded, asking, "Is there a problem?"
"Nothing," the driver shook his head, deciding not to delve further.
He’d received an odd request to change the route just yesterday.
This route had been the same for years, and adding a new stop now, especially here, seemed arbitrary.
There was no transit station nearby, nor did it make sense for residents here to need public transport.
Yet, with orders from above and a substantial compensation for his troubles, the driver wasn’t too bothered.
It was a handsome sum, after all.
Holding the contract in her hand, Amelia Davidson commended Emma, "Well done."
"You’ll be taking on these projects?"
"Me?" Emma pointed to herself, bewildered.
She had hardly any real design experience; how could she manage such tasks?
"I’m afraid I can’t," Emma admitted honestly.
