Chapter 13: House Arrest

"From today, you’ll live here and bear the child," he said coldly, his face grim as he escorted her into the elevator that led directly to the living room, leaving no room for discussion.

Emma rolled her eyes in frustration.

Wasn’t this just house arrest?

Pacing around the vast, luxurious villa, she felt suffocated by the rows of respectful housemaids and the man who consistently ignored her wishes.

She opened a wardrobe to find it filled with maternity clothes, meticulously arranged.

The servants mentioned they were personally selected by Mr. Sterling himself.

Who did he think he was, stripping her of her freedom and making choices for her?

After a lengthy, somewhat strained conversation due to her , Emma managed to convey her desire to step out for fresh air and check on baby formulas.

Yet, the maids, unwavering in their obedience to their master’s commands, patiently explained, "Mr. Sterling wants you to rest and nurture the baby here."

Emma was so furious she nearly choked, "If you won’t let me go, I’ll hurt myself to abort the child." It was meant as a bluff, but the maids panicked, quickly pulling her away from any sharp objects. Emma couldn’t help but wonder how he had threatened them.

She entered the elevator with an air of defiance, chin held high. She sighed, thinking about her part-time job and how to explain her absence. Though she lived in luxury in the villa, it was far from the life she desired.

Thinking she had escaped his clutches, the sight of the bodyguard at the door made her heart sink. She turned to flee but was promptly caught by a patrolling hulk.

"Let me go, let me go!" she bit him hard and tried to run again, but, outnumbered and overpowered, she was inevitably brought back.

"This woman," the man grumbled, nursing his hand marked with a deep bite. Her determination to escape was evident. If it weren’t for the young master’s interest, he wouldn’t have been so lenient.

Back in the villa, Emma paced like a trapped cat. Everywhere she turned, she felt his presence, and in her belly, his child.

She thought of the times she shared her troubles with her mother - work frustrations, financial struggles, her rocky relationship with Ethan Turner, the fights with Natalie Black, even her grandmother’s indifference and her brother’s challenges. Her mother’s words always soothed her.

But now, she couldn’t see her mother at all.

Emma slumped onto a plush sofa, surrounded by everything she never dared dream of, only to realize it was a nightmare.

Meanwhile, everything in the villa was displayed before Damien Sterling. His long fingers glided over the screen, his lips curling into a smile.

Damien sat, sipping his Americano in the morning’s vibrant golden light, looking less like the heir to the Sterling empire and more like a dashing prince.

A pale hand with bright red nails rested on his shoulder, and the sweet voice of Sophia Greenwood cooed behind him, "Damien, what are you thinking about? Lunch together today?"

Sophia’s eyes dimmed slightly but brightened again at Damien’s response, "Sure."

Damien smiled politely, but his eyes remained cold and detached.
