Chapter 99: Chapter 95: Battlefield
The next day, Luo’er woke up early again. Seemingly satisfied with his service yesterday, the supervisor still assigned him to the dining hall as a waiter. Although he had to continuously endure the disdainful looks from the noble students, it was much easier than the kitchen work.
Luo’er covered his mouth and lightly yawned, pushing forward the food cart. Customers occasionally placed orders along the way, and he would serve them the exquisite food that had already been prepared on the cart.
"Hey, come here!" Suddenly, he heard a familiar voice from behind. He turned his head to find that Tangmo was sitting behind him, resting her cheek on one hand and waving at him.
"Miss!" Luo’er brought the food cart before Tangmo and bowed respectfully.
"I’m hungry!" Tangmo seemed to be pouting.
With an inward sigh, Luo’er placed the food on her table. As she began to eat, he turned, ready to leave.
"Where are you going? Can’t you stay with me for a while?" Tangmo asked from behind him.
"Miss Audrey," Luo’er turned back to her, warning her respectfully, "Remember your status!"
"You are my servant, can’t you stay with me a bit longer?" Unexpectedly, Tangmo also hit back fiercely.
"Indeed, as you command, Miss." Luo’er replied helplessly.
Tangmo revealed a sly smile of victory. While she was enjoying the food, she occasionally glanced at Luo’er.
"Have you eaten anything yet?" Tangmo asked while eating.
"Not yet, Miss!" Luo’er replied honestly.
"Should I toss some food on the floor for you to eat?" Tangmo held up a piece of food and asked.
"That’s how dogs are fed," Luo’er stated, slightly exasperated.
"I wouldn’t even want to do that!" Tangmo quietly muttered.
"Miss!" Luo’er warned her again.
"I know!" Tangmo became a little impatient. She lifted her plate and, with a frown, said, "I’ve lost my appetite. You finish this!"
Luo’er looked at her somewhat crude acting and couldn’t help but chuckle inwardly. He reached out to take the plate and, upon her command, started to enjoy the food.
Seeing Luo’er obediently eating, Tangmo once again revealed a triumphant smile, so much so that Luo’er had to remind her again of her status.
"Do you know, I’ve learned a lot of magic recently, many new spells." Watching Luo’er eat, Tangmo rested her chin on her hand and said.
"That indeed calls for a congratulations, Miss." Luo’er responded with a slight smile on his face.
"I wish I could keep learning like this every day, exploring the mysteries of magic." Tangmo remarked nostalgically.
Luo’er fell silent. He knew that they came to the Magic Academy only to complete their mission, and once the mission was over, they inevitably had to leave. Therefore, he didn’t dare to respond to Tangmo’s sentiment.
"But, I would miss someone greatly!" Tangmo said, her affectionate gaze resting on Luo’er.
Luo’er turned somewhat pink and quickly turned his head away. He then coughed lightly and said, "That person must be very lucky to be liked by the Miss all the time."
"Yeah," Tangmo rested her chin in both hands, her eyes becoming dreamy, "He is adorable when he’s serious, obviously likes me but never dares to confess."
"Miss," Luo’er started to feel uncomfortable, "If there’s nothing else, may I take my leave?"
"You..." Tangmo looked up at him, a touch of reproach in her eyes.
"Hey, you come over here!"
Another familiar call, but obviously Luo’er didn’t recognize this voice. He turned towards the sound and found that Feliz, the girl who was arguing with Tangmo last night, was the one calling him over.
"Is there something you needed?" Luo’er ignored Tangmo’s warning and pushed the food cart towards her.
"Eat, what else?" Feliz glared at him and said grumpily.
"Indeed." Luo’er nodded in agreement, then began to serve the food on her table.
To be honest, he didn’t have a bad impression of the girl before him. From their few interactions, Luo’er understood that she was a proud and arrogant noble. Her nature wasn’t particularly bad; it was merely due to her noble status that she lacked kindness towards the lower classes.
"Did I say I wanted to eat these!" Out of nowhere, Feliz erupted.
"Sorry," Luo’er apologized and started retracting the plates.
"Don’t touch, how can I eat them if you’ve touched them!" Feliz continued to speak with a nasty tone.
"Yes, yes, it’s all my fault. Please enjoy your meal, Ma’am." Luo’er withdrew his hands, clasped them together, and respectfully stood in front of her.
As Feliz was eating, she was sizing up Luo’er. He was a half Wood Elf, with very prominent Wood Elf characteristics - dark green pupils and drooping Elf ears. His facial features were distinctively small and exquisite like a Wood Elf’s, topped with strange black hair and a slender and weak physique. At first glance, his entire aura was somewhat effeminate. So much so that she even mistook him for a somewhat androgynous girl.
Feliz didn’t discriminate against mixed-blood Elves. She wasn’t interested in how these beings came into this world. What disgusted her were those filthy slaves, smeared all over with an odorous stench.
Luo’er made a rather good first impression on her. Although his clothes were worn out, they were neatly maintained. His hair, though messy, didn’t feel oily. The exposed skin exhibited typical Elvish whiteness, free from significant dirt stains. Clearly, he was a clean slave.
"Tell me, how much did that guy pay to buy you?" Feliz asked abruptly while eating.
"2..." Luo’er started speaking and unconsciously looked back at Tangmo. He saw her frowning, looking displeased at the duo. He turned back and said, "200 gold coins... roughly..."
"I’ll give her 500 gold coins, and you will be my slave!" Feliz declared without hesitation.
"Hmm..." Luo’er looked troubled, "That depends on Miss Audrey’s decision."
"Just a newly elevated noble, 500 gold coins should make her happy for a long time!" Feliz coldly huffed and spoke disdainfully.
"Miss Feliz... why do you want to buy me?" Luo’er asked in bewilderment.
"Do I need a reason to buy you, do I need your consent to buy you?" Feliz fired back with a series of questions.
"I’m sorry, that wasn’t what I meant." Luo’er lowered his head and replied.
"That is settled then!" Feliz declared, stood up from her chair, and stormed off towards Tangmo. Luo’er had a premonition that a battle was about to begin, so he quickly followed.
"I won’t sell!" Before Feliz could speak, Tangmo preemptively shut her down. Feliz became so furious that she was speechless, almost shaking with frustration.
"Feliz, do you think that as a newly elevated noble, I will be delighted by your handouts?" Tangmo coldly questioned.
"Is that not the case?" Feliz retaliated defiantly.
"I will not let this guy go, so you better give up now!" Tangmo coldly retorted.
"You!" Feliz was so angry that she was rendered speechless.
Tangmo looked over at Luo’er, who looked innocent, but the thought of Feliz wanting to steal him because of his motives infuriated Tangmo. In her rage, she grabbed a spoon and fork from the table and hurled them towards Luo’er.
"What are you doing!" Feliz dodged the objects thrown at Luo’er and protested loudly.
"I’m disciplining my slave, it’s none of your business!" Tangmo retorted huffily.
"He is a servant now, you have no right to hit him!" Feliz, inexplicably, began defending Luo’er.
"It’s none of your business. Luo’er, come here!" Seeing Feliz protect Luo’er, Tangmo exploded, stood on the chair, and ordered Luo’er aggressively.
"Um..." Luo’er looked at the agitated pair in a daze. His head was spinning, at a loss for words. It was the first time he had the desire to escape.
"I’m sorry, but please don’t cause a disturbance in public. It disgraces noble status!" A girl’s voice broke through the imminent brawl.
There stood an Aud girl, dressed in the delicate maid outfit only available to servants. With hands crossed over, she slightly bowed and pleaded.
"Hmph!" At the mention of noble status, Feliz immediately hummed and stepped back. For her, a veteran noble, status was very important. This was not the same for those crude newly elevated nobles.
"Miss Audrey, please calm down." It was time for Luo’er to step in, politely convincing her.
"Hmph!" Tangmo jumped off the chair, indifferently brushed off where her feet had trampled, crossed her arms and sat down, eyeing Feliz irritably.
"Luo’er, the manager wants you. Let me handle things here!" The maid serving named Daier took Luo’er’s food cart and softly communicated.
"Thank you!" Passing her, Luo’er whispered into her ear. He could tell that Daier was merely finding a reason for him to leave.
Daier remained silent, showing a faint smile but didn’t look back at Luo’er, which attracted Tangmo’s attention.
"Luo’er!!!" Tangmo puffed her cheeks, feeling her emotions surge up.
Finally escaping the battlefield, Luo’er felt like he could breathe a sigh of relief. He couldn’t figure out what this Tangmo girl was thinking all day, possessing such strong jealousy. Her sense of ownership towards Luo’er seemed to have reached its peak, not allowing any girl to contact him, even though he was just a slave.
Luo’er shook his head, deciding not to dwell on these matters. It was daytime now, and he planned to explore the record room again at night, to unravel the conspiracy somehow. As for Tangmo, it would be better to stay away. Judging by her mood today, she might even try to tie him up in bed.
Luo’er sighed deeply. Dragging himself through his woes, he slowly walked in the direction of the kitchen.
