Chapter 980: Chapter 973: Speculation of the Undead
"So, you’re saying that around this tomb, there might well be a hidden facility for creating gods?" Baiyue analyzed calmly.
Having not found the Sacred Scripture of the Ancestors, Cheng Ziang left the sarcophagus disappointingly and walked over to the others. Facing Luo’er’s expectant eyes, he shook his head helplessly and said, "It seems we might have trouble finding anything of value in this tomb. However, I overheard your conversation, and if we can find a god-making facility, it might not necessarily be a bad thing for headquarters."
"Didn’t find the Sacred Scripture of the Ancestors?" Luo’er asked.
"Right," Cheng Ziang nodded, then spread his hands and said, "I didn’t find the Sacred Scripture of the Ancestors on my ancestor’s body. There were plenty of gold and silver vessels buried with him, but I couldn’t possibly do such a despicable thing."
"In fact, according to the situation in the Otherworld, descendants taking some things from their ancestors for survival isn’t considered despicable. On the contrary, people from the Otherworld generally accept it. If it wasn’t for that, the one named Liseya wouldn’t have let you in, allowing you to mess with the things inside," Tangmo pointed out, referring to the Flying Head Monster.
"That’s true," Cheng Ziang nodded but quickly shook his head again, "No, I just can’t strip my own ancestor’s possessions, both emotionally and logically."
"No one’s asking you to strip your ancestor’s possessions, don’t get agitated," Luo’er soothed.
"Well, since we haven’t found anything valuable in the tomb, our focus must now be on her," Baiyue said calmly, indicating the Flying Head Monster.
The Flying Head Monster had been watching Cheng Ziang’s every move from start to finish, almost never taking her eyes off him, and disregarded the conversations of the others as if she heard nothing.
However, once they knew of her extraordinary relationship with Cheng Ziang, everyone’s view of her changed significantly—they were no longer as fearful as before; instead, they even felt a vague sense of kinship towards her.
Of course, they were also aware that the Flying Head Monster’s tenderness was reserved only for Cheng Ziang, and should others dare to step over the line, they would surely provoke her wrath and suffer her slaughter.
With a frown, Tangmo stared at the Flying Head Monster and fell into a long contemplation. After a lengthy silence, she finally couldn’t resist voicing her question, "I have another query, how on earth did she turn into what she is now?"
"What do you mean?" Luo’er asked.
"She committed suicide, didn’t she? The elf named Liseya," Tangmo asked, pointing at the Flying Head Monster.
"Yes, what about it?" Luo’er nodded and asked.
"That’s just it," Tangmo nodded and then continued, "She stabbed herself in the heart with a dagger, falling in front of her lover’s coffin. But her spirit turned into a ghost, roaming around this tomb. That’s not scientific!"
"Indeed, it doesn’t seem very scientific," Luo’er responded.
Tangmo rolled her eyes at him, then continued, "The Deity Creation Project does not include suicide as a step. Let’s assume her transformation into a god was similar to Fulajie’er’s, but Fula’s steps to becoming a god did not include suicide. They were living beings whose souls were extracted directly by the machine and then bound by magic components so that they wouldn’t dissipate. There was never any mention of needing to commit suicide to become what they are now. Fula didn’t, and neither did that unfortunate person from the Ancient States."
"So, by inference," Tangmo indicated the skull lying on the ground, "we can roughly hypothesize her experience. She became a god through machinery, which should mean her body would have remained in the facility rather than lying on the way to the coffin and even needing to stab herself in the heart to complete a suicide ritual."
"So what you’re trying to say is..." Luo’er looked at her, hesitantly asking.
"So now I’m curious whether that Flying Head Monster’s life hinge is some kind of facility or this very skeleton?" Tangmo mused.
"It can’t be the skeleton," Baiyue immediately rejected her second proposition, then pointed at Fulajie’er and said, "When we rescued Fula back then, it was because her body had begun to show signs of decay, which is why we had to transfer her soul to a crystal. If a skeleton could serve as the life hinge for a god, it would mean our actions back then were entirely unnecessary—Fula, even housed in a decaying body, could have ensured that her spirit would not fall apart."
"I also believe her vital point couldn’t be the skeleton; I experienced that year’s events firsthand, so I have the most say," Luo’er stepped forward, then looked at Fulajie’er and said, "At that time, Fula’s body was no longer able to house her soul, and the part of her spirit within her body was gradually dissipating. Hence, we had no choice but to extract her soul and preserve it within a crystal, also creating a new body for her."
Tangmo did not show dissatisfaction with their rebuttal. Instead, he narrowed his eyes, furrowed his brow, and said, "Then it seems that the only thing that could bind Liseya’s vital point must be some sort of device or facility. But this raises a question: how did she manage to do all of this? After sacrificing her soul and turning into a god, she ran in front of the coffin to kill herself. Could it be that this facility isn’t far from the coffin?"
As he spoke, his gaze turned to Luo’er. Noticing Tangmo’s look, Luo’er went cold for a moment, then nodded and said, "Good, our next task is then to find this so-called facility. Since we’ve ascertained this tomb is worthless, if we can find something that resembles the Deity Creation Facility, perhaps our journey won’t be in vain."
"Ziang, what do you think?" Luo’er asked as he turned his head to Cheng Ziang.
"I don’t mind, as long as you don’t mess with the things in my family’s ancestral tomb, I don’t really have any objections," Cheng Ziang responded with a shrug.
"Rest assured, we won’t disturb the items in your family’s ancestral tomb; desecrating others’ ancestral graves is a big taboo, and we won’t make such a mistake," Luo’er waved his hand and said.
"Fula, go do some reconnaissance and scout the path ahead," Tangmo ordered, pointing in the direction of the platform stretching towards the rock wall.
"Bad woman, you’re ordering me?" Fulajie’er’s eyes widened in disbelief as she asked.
"You better be obedient. This order is also Luo’er’s will. If you make him angry, then I will be the lucky one," Tangmo said with a sly smile.
"You," Fulajie’er was so angry she was at a loss for words. After a pause to catch her breath, she frowned intently at Tangmo and then hesitantly said, "You’re obviously older, how come I feel like you’re becoming more and more like a bad woman?"
"Really? I’ve just matured, that’s all," Tangmo replied with a smile.
"Whether or not, bad woman, I didn’t do it because you told me to. I am going to do this for Luo’er; don’t get the wrong idea!" Fulajie’er said defiantly, but after speaking, she quickly vanished into thin air, as if running away.
As he watched Fulajie’er disappear, Tangmo blinked to clear the persistent afterimage from his eyes, then shook his head, muttering to himself, "She’s so easy to handle, I really don’t get why you two always argue."
"Talis!" Having seen Fulajie’er disappear, Luo’er turned around and fixed his intense gaze on Talis.
"What exactly do you want?" Talis asked, frowning and looking uneasy.
"I just want to ask you some questions," Luo’er replied calmly.
"Nothing to tell you!" Talis’s attitude remained resolute.
"If you have nothing to tell, then you can just leave, get out of this tomb," Luo’er said with a shrug.
"What do you mean? We already had an agreement, didn’t we? Are you thinking of going back on your word now?" Talis asked indignantly.
"I wanted to cooperate with you, but you really don’t seem willing to work with us, do you? We just wanted to ask what you were looking for, yet you’ve remained tight-lipped the whole time, which puts us in a difficult position. Now that we have complete control over the situation here, I don’t think you have any leverage to refuse answering our questions, do you?" Luo’er spread his hands as he spoke.
"Don’t you want to go to Xia Yue Island anymore?" Talis threatened.
"Heh," Luo’er laughed at her threat, without any sign of panic. In fact, he even chuckled, "Please, it’s not like we can only go to Xia Yue Island with your help. There are plenty of Night Elves in this world; why must we cooperate with you? We can certainly seek the help of other Night Elves to go to Xia Yue Island, can’t we?"
