Chapter 973: Chapter 966: Awkward Interaction
"Eh, what’s she trying to do?" Seeing the Flying Head Monster notice her, Fulajie’er’s eyes widened, and Cheng Ziang could even hear the trembling in her voice.
"Don’t be so nervous, you’re not going to die," Cheng Ziang said in what was meant to be comforting, but to her, it sounded more like sarcasm.
"Shut up!" Fulajie’er scolded, then stared intently at the Flying Head Monster.
"Hey, are you asking me to follow you?" Fulajie’er pointed at herself and asked, because the domain had not been severed, Cheng Ziang could still hear her voice.
Soon enough, the Flying Head Monster nodded. At that moment, Cheng Ziang heard a prolonged female voice from the contact of Fulajie’er’s domain, "Mmm!!"
"She can talk!" Cheng Ziang shuddered, nearly falling on his bottom from shock.
"Mmm..." Fulajie’er pondered, seemingly very cautious about her invitation, taking her time to make a decision.
"Oh come on, if you’re scared, just don’t go. I’ll go with you!" Cheng Ziang said with a dismissive wave of his hand.
"Cheng Ziang, who do you think you’re looking down on? Who says I’m scared?" At his words, Fulajie’er immediately flared up, flew up from his head, and landed in front of him with her hands on her hips, huffing angrily.
"Eh, I didn’t mean it like that!" Cheng Ziang protested, claiming innocence. He had no intention of being sarcastic; his words were completely heartfelt.
"Hmph," Fulajie’er snorted, then said with a touch of haughty coquettishness, "You just wait here. I’ll go in with her and take a look. Don’t wander off, got it?"
"Yes, yes, Fula Sister," Cheng Ziang nodded obediently.
Pleasingly receiving the answer she wanted, Fulajie’er showed a hint of a smile, which didn’t last long, as soon the Flying Head Monster exploded in place and vanished. Seeing this, Fulajie’er promptly followed suit, dissolving her form and disappearing from the spot.
Feeling that Fulajie’er had torn away her domain contact with him, Cheng Ziang took a deep breath and shook his head, lamenting, "Why did I even bring this woman along? It seems that apart from Luo’er, nobody can really handle her."
"This gal, she really is a treasure among women," Cheng Ziang muttered to himself, and with an intriguing tone, he added, "Make yourself at home?"
After the Flying Head Monster and Fulajie’er vanished, the surroundings grew considerably dimmer. Cheng Ziang let out a sigh of relief, then sat down on the steps, taking off his shoulder-mounted flashlight to cast its beam around.
Not far from him, in the corner of the passage, several skeletons that had completely turned to white bones were propped up, their dark, hollow eye sockets staring directly at him.
"Life and death are predestined, fortune is in the heavens, eh, fellas? If you don’t have the fate, don’t covet the wealth," Cheng Ziang said to the skeletons, his words dripping with jest.
By now, he was completely unfazed by the corpses nearby. Even the most fearsome Flying Head Monster was no match for him – what were these lonely ghosts to him?
Besides, based on their experience, after death, souls quickly dissipate due to the loss of the body’s constraints. So unless they are deliberately preserved, dead people don’t have spirits, let alone become ghosts.
In the Otherworld, the concepts mingling with ghosts are almost always related to magic. Ordinary people, not to mention dying a normal death, couldn’t necessarily turn into ghosts even if they committed suicide wearing red clothing.
This theory about the soul is also known as Materialistic Ghost Theory. However, it should be noted that this is a unique notion that developed in an environment full of magic, like the Otherworld. On Earth, it is impossible, as the conditions for the emergence of spirits don’t exist.
Without the psychological pressure, Cheng Ziang sat leisurely on the stairs quietly waiting, completely ignoring the tragic corpses and skeletons around him.
After about half an hour or so, the Flying Head Monster finally flew back, reappearing in front of Cheng Ziang. Soon after, Fulajie’er also reappeared, her expression somewhat complex.
"What’s wrong, you look like you’ve seen a ghost?" Cheng Ziang asked with concern.
Upon hearing his words, Fulajie’er didn’t immediately respond. Instead, she furrowed her brows, rolled her eyes, and then said, "She said as long as we don’t touch a few things, we can take whatever we want from the tomb."
"Which few things?" Cheng Ziang asked eagerly.
"Hmm, it’s not something I can explain in a few words. Anyway, once we get in there, I’ll remind you guys. Just don’t mess around, and you’ll be fine," Fulajie’er reflected.
"Eh, okay, okay, we won’t touch anything," Cheng Ziang said, his gaze shifting to the face of the Flying Head Monster with an expression of delight.
The Flying Head Monster seemed to appreciate his smile; upon seeing Cheng Ziang’s grin, she swayed her head from side to side, gazing at him tenderly.
"Alright, wait here for me. I’m going out to call Luo’er and the others inside," Fulajie’er said, ready to leave.
"Eh, you’re leaving me here alone?" Cheng Ziang asked, somewhat hesitantly.
"What, are you scared?" Fulajie’er said, turning to look back at him.
"It’s not that..." Cheng Ziang began, turning to glance at the Flying Head Monster who was still gazing at him with infatuation, and then whispering in a lower voice, "It just feels a bit awkward."
"What’s there to be awkward about? Just pretend it’s your sister keeping you company," Fulajie’er said nonchalantly.
"Sister?" Cheng Ziang looked at her bewildered, as if he had heard something unusual.
Fulajie’er glanced at the Flying Head Monster and, with eyes narrowed, gave a sly, half-smiling expression, her mouth curving upwards as she said, "She’s being so generous all because of you, you know!"
"For me, why? Do you know something?" Cheng Ziang’s eyes widened, he asked urgently.
"Humph, humph!" Fulajie’er didn’t reply, but instead chuckled twice, her body radiating a soft glow before suddenly vanishing, leaving a clear black silhouette in Cheng Ziang’s field of vision.
"Hey, you unlucky girl!" Cheng Ziang cursed involuntarily, then turned to look at the Flying Head Monster again, who was still looking at him with deep affection.
For some reason, Cheng Ziang didn’t feel uneasy under such a gaze; he just found it embarrassingly silent and didn’t know where to put his hands, clenching them into fists one moment and tightly gripping the hems of his trousers the next.
During the quiet coexistence, the Flying Head Monster kept circling around him, her gaze never leaving him.
Unfortunately, since her eyes had only whites and no pupils, Cheng Ziang was unable to discern her inner thoughts through her gaze. He always had a premonition that the Flying Head Monster before him must have some deep connection with him; otherwise, she would definitely not be so taken with him.
Love at first sight? How could that be?
This creature had killed countless people over the centuries; how could she make an exception just for him, even allowing his companions to enter the crypt and take things from inside?
What exactly was her relationship to him, and why was she so protective of him, even willing to comply with his seemingly impolite requests?
Cheng Ziang couldn’t understand. If it was really because of lineage, then he was a member of the Fiorent family and had nothing to do with the Snow Domain. How could he possibly have such close ties in the Snow Domain?
Fulajie’er, that wretched girl, definitely knew something, Cheng Ziang thought, nodding his head. When she came back, he definitely had to question her properly.
With these thoughts, about twenty minutes or so passed, and Cheng Ziang heard noises behind him. He quickly turned and looked down the passage, where he could see the light shining in.
Yet the Flying Head Monster didn’t seem to care about the intrusion of Luo’er and the others, her attitude utterly different from that night. She kept her eyes fixed on Cheng Ziang the entire time, and even as Luo’er and his group entered her field of vision, she never once shifted her gaze.
"Finally, I’ve been looking forward to seeing you guys," Cheng Ziang shrugged his shoulders and spoke as if to ease the tension, actually sighing inwardly with relief.
"You okay, you seem to be getting along with her just fine," Luo’er observed Cheng Ziang and commented.
"Ah, it’s a long story," Cheng Ziang said with a helpless shake of his head.
As Luo’er and the others approached, the Flying Head Monster finally shifted her gaze away from Cheng Ziang and flew straight towards them.
