Chapter 961: Chapter 954: The Reason Not to Attack
"Um, could you help me lift him up? I can’t do it by myself." At this time, Axia spoke up inappropriately, struggling to lift Cheng Ziang from the ground.
"Sorry for the embarrassment, let me help." Seeing Axia’s effort, Luo’er came forward with an apologetic expression to assist.
He grabbed Cheng Ziang’s arm and as soon as he exerted force, he felt intense pain all over his body. It seemed his meridians had not yet fully healed from the damage.
"I’ll do it, you should be careful using strength, your meridians haven’t recovered yet," Tangmo walked over and said.
"Thank you," Luo’er nodded and then handed Cheng Ziang over to Tangmo.
Hearing his words, Tangmo gave him a reproachful look, then complained, "After we get back, I’ll check your injuries. You always like to end up looking battered and bruised."
"Thank you!" Luo’er smiled and nodded again.
"Still saying thank you!" Tangmo muttered, then forcefully helped Cheng Ziang retreat.
She and Axia had a lot of trouble getting Cheng Ziang to the high ground outpost where everyone was. Hu Daoke looked at Cheng Ziang’s somewhat red cheeks, frowned, and said, "This guy seems unhurt; ignore him, let him wake up and walk by himself!"
"Come on, he did protect me all night, don’t be so harsh," Luo’er said, comforting.
They left Hu Daoke to observe, and the rest of the group retreated to the previous camp. Cheng Ziang slept for almost three hours before finally waking up leisurely.
"Are you all right?" Luo’er asked with concern as he saw him climb out of the sleeping bag.
"That’s what I should be asking you," Cheng Ziang, rubbing his blurry eyes and speaking in a hoarse voice, replied.
"Moumou helped me with another treatment, now I am almost well," Luo’er said.
"That’s good," Cheng Ziang said, relieved as he nodded.
"Have some water!" Luo’er said and handed over the warm water he had been keeping close to his body.
"Thanks!" Cheng Ziang took the cup and drank it all in one gulp. He immediately felt his throat clear and his limbs regain strength.
"Where are the others?" Cheng Ziang put down the cup and looked around, asking.
"Oh, everyone’s here, I asked Little Ke to keep staying at the observation post to monitor the situation of the tomb," Luo’er replied.
"If everyone has withdrawn, what’s there left to observe?" Cheng Ziang asked, puzzled.
"While you were unconscious, a group of Night Elves ignored my advice and entered the tomb. I had Fula follow them to see if we could get a clear picture of the situation in the tomb," Luo’er explained.
"Night Elves, from the Snow Domain? Where did they come from?" Cheng Ziang asked, surprised.
"From Xia Yue Island, I guess they must have taken a boat north," Luo’er replied.
"What are they looking for in the tomb?" Cheng Ziang inquired.
"Not sure," Luo’er shrugged and said, "They are very hostile towards me and wouldn’t listen to my advice, let alone make their intentions clear."
"That makes sense," Cheng Ziang looked Luo’er up and down, then nodded in agreement.
"Hey, you’re awake?" Seeing Cheng Ziang awake, the others gathered around. Tangmo greeted him with a frustrated face.
"What’s with those faces, it’s not like Luo’er ended up like this because of me," Cheng Ziang shrugged helplessly in the face of Tangmo and Baiyue’s sulky expressions.
"Okay, let’s not dwell on that anymore," Luo’er interrupted their conversation with a remark and then, coughing, he looked at Cheng Ziang and asked, "Ziang, I heard from Fula that the ghost seemed not to attack you, why is that, did you say something to her?"
"To be honest, I’m not very clear on that, but it seems she was willing to listen to me, so I asked her to spare you all..." Cheng Ziang scratched his head, equally lost in thought.
"And then she agreed to spare us?" Luo’er asked.
"Of course, otherwise you all would have frozen to death by now," Cheng Ziang replied.
"Can you not say such inauspicious things?" Tangmo complained upon hearing his tone.
"Alright, I’m fine, aren’t I? Don’t interrupt," Luo’er said helplessly, shaking his head, then continued to ask, "Do you know why she is willing to listen to you?"
"That, I really don’t know, but..." Cheng Ziang began, his eyes narrowing as he fell into reminiscence.
"But what?" Luo’er tilted his head and asked.
"I always feel there’s a familiar sensation about her, but I can’t quite put my finger on it; I just feel... she definitely wouldn’t hurt me..." Cheng Ziang mused.
"Why are you so sure?" Luo’er asked.
"I really don’t know," Cheng Ziang shook his head, then said with frustration, "I always believe in facts and am not inclined to trust so-called perceptions. But this time, intuition tells me she won’t hurt me."
"Why is it Ziang, in particular?" Tangmo couldn’t help falling into thought after hearing his words.
"Could it be because of his lineage?" Baiyue offered a perspective.
"Lineage?" Upon hearing the term, everyone was taken aback.
"If it’s about lineage..." Luo’er said, looking at Cheng Ziang with an inquiring gaze. After a good while, the other man nodded, showing agreement.
"Does Ziang have the Fiolonte Family bloodline, and could this be the reason?" Luo’er asked hesitantly.
"Fiolonte?" Axia couldn’t help but question upon hearing the familiar yet foreign term.
"The royal family of Otland, descendants of Feiora, the second prince of the Aud Empire," Luo’er explained earnestly.
"Him?" Axia’s eyes widened in shock as she looked at Cheng Ziang.
"What’s the difference between that and Ziang being a royal family member?" Tangmo asked.
"Don’t forget," Luo’er said, "the tomb we’ve come to, what kind of tomb it is—a noble’s tomb; which nobility, the nobility of the Aud Empire. So, could it be that the person sleeping in this tomb, is from the Fiolonte Family?"
"I don’t think that’s possible," Cheng Ziang shook his head, rejecting Luo’er’s speculation.
"Why not?" Luo’er asked, puzzled.
"If Feiora’s domain was in Otland and not in the Snow Domain. If the Fiolonte Family held domains including the Snow Domain, then Otland would have made a public declaration of strong claim over the Snow Domain, yet in reality, the Fiolonte Family has always stayed in Otland, never having claimed the Snow Domain." Cheng Ziang analyzed.
"That is to say, the rulers of the Snow Domain at that time were actually other nobility, not the royal family of the time." Tangmo said, frowning.
"The Emperor of the Aud Empire had only three sons, and after the Emperor’s death, each son received a piece of territory, except for the Snow Domain, which was not granted to anyone..." Luo’er pondered.
"No, that’s not right," Baiyue shook her head, contradicting him.
"What’s not right?" Luo’er asked.
"According to historical records, the Snow Domain was granted. At that time, as a ducal domain, the Snow Domain was given to Alafalan, the oldest son, who established the Masaya Kingdom, incorporating the Snow Domain into the territory of Masaya Kingdom. However, this was only a nominal grant, as the Snow Domain’s duke never actually changed. Faced with this remote and harsh fief, members of the Alafasia Family showed little interest, and Alafalan was too far stretched to effectively govern the Snow Domain, which essentially became independent in practice," Baiyue explained.
"Then it’s even less likely; Ziang is from the Fiolonte Family, not the Alafasia Family. Thus, there is basically no connection to the lineage," Luo’er said with a furrowed brow.
After the death of the Emperor of the Aud Empire, each of his three sons received their own territory and established their respective kingdoms.
The eldest son, Alafalan, was granted the eastern territories of the Empire, including the Snow Domain, and he founded the Masaya Kingdom. His descendants are the Alafasia Family.
The second son, Feiora, was granted the western territories of the Empire, and claiming to be the legitimate heirs, they founded the Kingdom of Otland, with their descendants known as the Fiolonte Family.
The youngest son, Oronis, was granted the southwestern territories of the Empire, where the Bobulu people lived, and he established the Oudaluo Kingdom. Not long after, he fell ill and died, leaving the Bobulu nobles to take over the kingdom, becoming the actual rulers.
