Chapter 959: Chapter 952: Guests from Xia Yue Island
"It’s okay, it’s okay, the concentration of magic in your body isn’t enough to harm me. Don’t worry about me getting injured. If you want to talk to me, then come closer," Luo’er said gently, offering comfort.
"Wow," upon hearing Luo’er’s soft tone, Fulajie’er found it even harder to control her emotions, throwing herself onto Luo’er’s neck and sobbing uncontrollably.
"I’m sorry, it’s all my fault, I didn’t protect you..." Fulajie’er said loudly, full of guilt.
"Don’t say that, you did your best. In the end, it’s the enemy who was too cunning," Luo’er took a deep breath, feeling the pain from the dilation of his body’s vessels at that moment.
After a long cry, Fulajie’er finally managed to stop her tears and sniffled forcefully.
"How’s Ziang?" Luo’er looked down at Cheng Ziang, whom he had managed to support, and asked.
"Oh, after you were injured, he stayed and looked after you with me. He didn’t sleep all night," Fulajie’er replied truthfully.
"I see," Luo’er nodded, gently tidying up Cheng Ziang’s somewhat disheveled hair.
"Wasn’t he attacked that night?" Luo’er suddenly thought of something and looked up at Fulajie’er to ask.
"Hmm, only you and Feng were attacked, he wasn’t?" Fulajie’er nodded in response.
"Why is that?" Luo’er asked, puzzled.
"I’m not sure. For some reason, she just wouldn’t attack Cheng Ziang. After you were knocked down, I stayed by your side the whole time, so I’m not very clear about the other details," Fulajie’er explained.
"I see," Luo’er nodded, then continued to ask, "Feng is alright, isn’t she?"
"She’s fine, she left with the others to get treated for her wounds," Fulajie’er continued.
"That’s good, that’s good," Luo’er nodded with relief, finally feeling a sense of relief.
"They are on the high ground protecting you. Luo’er, let’s go back together, so they won’t worry anymore," Fulajie’er said.
"Alright, let’s go back first..." Luo’er said, trying to lift Cheng Ziang, but as soon as he exerted any strength, his once-healed vessels split open again. Luo’er immediately felt a sharp pain throughout his body, forcing him to sit back down on the ground.
"Luo’er, are you alright?" Seeing this, Fulajie’er quickly flew to his side and asked with concern.
"I can’t muster the strength right now, I can’t carry Ziang away. Ask others to come help," Luo’er said, in pain.
"Okay, okay," Fulajie’er quickly nodded, but no sooner had she vanished than she reappeared in just a few seconds, looking anxious, "Luo’er, Luo’er, someone’s coming. You guys better hide!"
"Who is it, is it our people?" Luo’er asked, confused.
"No, they are a group of strangers, about a dozen or so, and they are less than thirty meters away from us now," Fulajie’er informed.
"Could they be accomplices of those mercenaries?" Luo’er continued.
"They aren’t either. I’ve never seen these people before. They... they seem to be elves..." Fulajie’er said hesitantly.
"Elves..." Luo’er muttered, deep in thought.
As he was pondering, a hubbub of noise came from not far away. Luo’er took a deep breath, then said to Fulajie’er, "Inform everyone to get ready and then hide to protect us. I want to make contact with them."
"Luo’er..." Fulajie’er looked at him with a face full of worry.
"It’s okay. You can protect me, right?" Luo’er said reassuringly.
"Yes!" Seeing the look in Luo’er’s eyes, Fulajie’er nodded vigorously and then disappeared in an instant.
No sooner had she vanished than the group of people approached from behind Luo’er, coming within less than ten meters of him. A woman in the lead slightly furrowed her brows, speaking with a puzzled look, "Strange, I clearly felt a disturbance in magic just now. How come it’s gone all of a sudden?"
"Who are you?" Luo’er gently laid Cheng Ziang down, found a piece of tent fabric to cover him with, then suddenly stood up, turned around, and asked.
"Who are you?" Seeing his actions, the group of people raised their weapons. Luo’er noticed that most of their weapons were crossbows, but the lead woman was holding an FAL semi-automatic rifle.
"Who are you?" Luo’er stared at them, asking seriously.
He saw that the group was about a dozen in number, men and women, mostly women, wrapped up tightly with large hoods covering their heads.
The color of their skin was slightly darker, and their overall appearance gave off a cool hue. Despite being wrapped in thick clothing, their slender figures were hard to conceal. Moreover, with the delicate and pointed faces under their hoods and their dark purple pupils, it was not difficult for Luo’er to guess their identity as Night Elves.
"Captain, it’s a Wood Elf!" The moment they laid eyes on Luo’er, the group became instantly tense, raising their weapons towards him, barely stopping short of firing.
"Calm down, he’s just a Half-elf," the Night Elf woman known as Captain said, turning to glare at her subordinate, then added with a frown.
"How unusual, a distinguished visitor from Xia Yue Island. What brings you to the far north of Snow Domain?" Luo’er looked at them, his expression impassive.
"You know of us?" the female Captain asked coldly.
"Of course, who doesn’t recognize the Night Elves," Luo’er replied with a shrug.
From his earlier observations, Luo’er had also noticed a detail—these people were purebred Night Elves, not of mixed heritage. Although the offspring of the Elf Race were naturally Elves, there was a difference between mixed and purebred; commoners might not notice, but someone as well-traveled as Luo’er could certainly tell.
"Since you recognize us, you must also know about the grudge between Wood Elves and Night Elves, right?" the female Captain continued to inquire.
"Of course I know, but that’s just an old quarrel between Ilanadale and Xia Yue Island. What does it have to do with me?" Luo’er replied with another shrug.
"That’s good to hear!" Satisfied with Luo’er’s answer, the female Captain nodded approvingly and slowly lowered her weapon.
"Are those dead people your companions?" the Captain asked, pointing to the tent after the tension had eased.
"No, we arrived later. Those were probably the unfortunate ones from before," Luo’er answered.
"What happened to them?" the female Captain asked.
"They’re dead, isn’t that obvious," Luo’er stated frankly.
"I know they’re dead," the Captain said, frowning, "I’m asking how they died."
"Who knows? Maybe they were killed by ghosts," Luo’er remarked thoughtfully.
"Ghosts?" Upon hearing his response, the Captain’s frown deepened.
"You’re here for the tomb as well, aren’t you?" Luo’er turned to look at the grand sculptures at the entrance of the tomb, then looked back at her.
"You’re here for that too?" the female Captain asked, narrowing her eyes.
"Likewise. But I’d advise you against going in," Luo’er said with a shrug.
"Why?" asked the Captain.
"Why," Luo’er spread his hands and looked around, "you’ve seen the end these people met."
"They died because of this tomb?" the female Captain asked hesitantly.
"Believe it or not, that’s up to you," Luo’er said.
"Have you been attacked too?" the Captain pressed.
"What else, do you think we’d be spending our time in this pile of dead bodies for fun?" Luo’er responded.
"I don’t believe you. Who knows if you’re just trying to deceive me," the female Captain said warily.
"Believe it or not, that’s your choice. I’m just kindly warning you. If you don’t believe me, please feel free," Luo’er said, gesturing towards the entrance of the tomb.
"Captain, we..." Confused by Luo’er’s words, the Elves looked towards their Captain for answers.
"Don’t mind him; he might just be fooling us," the female Captain said, then commanded with a wave of her hand, "Everyone, prepare to enter the tomb."
"Yes!" they answered in unison.
"Hey, you didn’t set up a trap, did you?" the female Captain turned around just as she was about to enter the tomb, asking with a look of suspicion.
"Look at me, then look at these dead people. Do you think we had the chance to go in?" Luo’er spread his hands.
"That’s good!" The female Captain nodded, then without looking back, walked towards the entrance of the tomb.
