Chapter 945: Chapter 938: Crisis Resolved
The two of them had been sickeningly sweet for a while, but thankfully, Tangmo eventually let Luo’er go, giving Luo’er a chance to breathe easy. The two of them remained in hiding, waiting for news from Fulajie’er. Of course, Luo’er was hoping for good news.
Every ten minutes, Fulajie’er would return to report the situation. According to her, the group was starting to waver, with the majority in favor of evacuating. At the same time, she was actively sowing panic, making the people realize that something sinister existed in the area.
Ultimately, thanks to Fulajie’er’s efforts, the group decided to evacuate the area and, in their haste, even abandoned the bodies of their companions.
However, before they left, Fulajie’er gathered some unexpected intelligence, which was that these people seemed to know the locations of several tombs. The main reason they had taken Axia along was for insurance.
This news plunged Luo’er into deep thought; if these people already knew the locations of the tombs, they could enter them before Luo’er’s team did.
Although he was aware that most of these tombs were fraught with danger, the sheer number of people could not be underestimated. If they got their hands on the Ancestors’ Holy Book, although headquarters could still buy it back, he estimated that the cost would be substantial, so Luo’er still hoped that the Advance Team could find the Ancestors’ Holy Book first.
Luo’er asked Fulajie’er to gather everyone and then continue monitoring those people. He instructed the assembled team members to clean up the battlefield and bury the corpses collectively.
"Ziang, Little Ke, the two of you go clean up the battlefield over there!" Luo’er directed, pointing towards the area where Feng had just fought.
Feng had been excessively ruthless, and the corpses were almost beyond recognition. Concerned about how this might affect the girls’ morale, Luo’er had the two men deal with it.
"Roger that!" The two men didn’t hesitate, nodding their heads before heading in that direction.
Having received the message to assemble, Aunt Axia arrived at the gathering point with her bow and arrows. Her supply of arrows seemed unchanged, probably because she hadn’t had a chance to shoot, especially since the firepower from the opposition was so strong that her bow seemed somewhat insufficient.
"Aunt Axia, are you okay?" Luo’er asked, concerned.
"I’m fine," Axia shook her head slightly, then looked at Luo’er and asked, "Have those people left already?"
"Yes," Luo’er nodded, and then said seriously, "They seem to know the locations of several tombs, so they’ve gone straight to those tombs."
"Which direction did they take?" Axia’s expression changed upon hearing his words, and she quickly inquired.
"Northwest direction," Luo’er replied, pointing in that direction.
"Northwest..." Axia murmured, head lowered in thought for a moment, then looked up with a furrowed brow and said, "About a hundred kilometers in that direction, there is a noble’s tomb. I suspect they might be heading there."
"Then, we need to follow them..." Luo’er felt a jolt of worry in his heart, Axia’s words indirectly confirming Fulajie’er’s reconnaissance results.
"There’s no need to rush," to Luo’er’s surprise, Axia didn’t seem too worried and waved her hand dismissively, "That noble’s tomb is extremely dangerous. Over the past thousand years, countless graverobbers have died in that tomb. You needn’t worry about it being breached. I doubt those people will make much progress before we get there."
"Do you know how to enter that tomb safely?" Luo’er asked, somewhat apprehensive.
"I know some ways," Axia nodded, then said, "You don’t need to worry about encountering danger. Rest assured, with me here. I can’t guarantee you’ll find what you’re looking for, but I can ensure your safety with a high probability."
"Then we’re in your debt, Aunt Axia," Luo’er said graciously.
"No, I should be the one thanking you. If it weren’t for you, I suppose they would have captured me by now," Axia said, her eyes narrowing into a smile.
"I have a question, not sure if I should ask," Luo’er hesitated for a moment before asking tentatively.
"Go ahead," Axia nodded and replied.
"Was it actually Eve who led Fu’en to the Ancestors’ Holy Book, or was it you who brought them to it?" Luo’er asked.
"To be precise, It was me," Axia said, inevitably sighing, "You’re putting too much faith in that girl. If it weren’t for me back then, they would have all died in the tomb. That girl was too reckless, it’s fortunate that this time you knew to come to me first instead of heading directly into the tomb with her."
"So, it wasn’t Eve who led Fu’en to the Ancestors’ Holy Book, but you who led them to it." Luo’er said, nodding continuously.
"What, you’re trying to say something?" Axia stared at him, asking.
"No," Luo’er lifted his head and, after a cough, said, "I just remembered something. Back when Eve was targeted by those people in Holy Heart City, they probably wanted to use her to find the Ancestors’ Holy Book. Now that these people have come looking for you, I suspect that the smokescreen we set up in Holy Heart City has been seen through by them, and that’s why they’re following our footsteps into the Snow Domain."
"Why do you people from the Otherworld all want to open the Otherworld Gate?" Axia asked, puzzled.
Hearing her question, Luo’er sighed softly and then said, "For our respective benefits, whether you acknowledge it or not, a brand new era is coming. A fresh future that belongs both to the world of science and Magic World is about to arrive, and we are just trying to facilitate this."
"A brand new era..." Axia was obviously stunned by the future he described, falling into a brief intoxication.
"So, Aunt Axia, would you be interested in working at our headquarters?" Luo’er asked, looking at her.
"Humph, humph, humph." Axia chuckled a few times, showing an equivocal attitude, but Luo’er could clearly feel that her stance had softened a great deal.
On the other side, Cheng Ziang and Hu Daoke were organizing the scattered corpses, and out of guilt, Feng joined their team as well.
"Damn, even the gun’s been chopped up; it’s just a refurbished piece, worthless." Hu Daoke complained as he tossed the broken firearms aside.
"Hmm, eighty percent new, God’s right hand, good stuff!" Hu Daoke picked up an FAL rifle, examined it for a moment, and revealed a satisfied expression.
"The flagpole of the free world, and it even comes with a bipod, just perfect for you, the machine gunner." On the other side, Cheng Ziang also picked up a Browning M1918 automatic rifle from among the dead and said while examining it.
"Give me a break, I’m not using that piece of junk, man. It’s heavy, kicks like a mule, and has a low ammo capacity. It’s worthless." Hu Daoke scoffed.
"But it has great suppressive power, eh? You just got suppressed to the point where you couldn’t even lift your head." Cheng Ziang said as he placed the rifle against the trunk of a tree.
"That’s because you pansy didn’t give me any support, you cur, always just picking off heads!" Hu Daoke cursed him without any courtesy.
"How is that my fault? You talk as if I wasn’t shooting. It’s clearly because you were greedy for glory and didn’t want to move that got you suppressed," Cheng Ziang retorted.
"If I had moved right away, you would’ve been in trouble. Ungrateful one, blaming me now, are you?" Hu Daoke cursed.
Just as Cheng Ziang was about to retort, he spotted Feng diligently collecting the bodies not far away, and, pursing his lips, said, "Alright, let’s not argue, look at Feng dealing with the bodies alone, making us look like we’re here just to pick up leftovers."
"Feeling pity now and not helping, I’m picking up guns!" said Hu Daoke unapologetically.
"What guns to pick up, go and dig holes, bury the bodies first then collect weapons!" Cheng Ziang grabbed him by the scruff of his neck and forcefully dragged him over.
"Hey, don’t grab my scarf, if I catch a cold from this, you’re going solo to take the fire," Hu Daoke grumbled.
But despite the angry words, the two worked in sync. Cheng Ziang and Feng dealt with the bodies, while Hu Daoke pulled out his entrenching tool and started to dig up the ground.
