Chapter 911: Chapter 904: Attempting to Decode
"These words are not right to say," Luo’er said with a bitter smile, "The Snow God’s magic is for survival. If its magic is completely used up, its life would be in danger. Since the Snow God is not our enemy, we have no reason to hurt it, right?"
"Why are you suddenly becoming more and more compassionate?" Tangmo looked at him and asked.
"I’ve always been like this, do you think I’ve changed?" Luo’er asked after a moment of surprise.
"No, you have indeed always been like this, but now I always feel like you’re developing in the direction of World Great Harmony," Tangmo said.
"What the hell is that?" Luo’er asked with a bitter smile.
"Ah, forget it," Tangmo waved her hands dismissively, then said, "Actually, I’ve been thinking that instead of blindly spending time looking for traps, it might be better to focus on studying the stone door blocking our way to see if we can open it in a relatively safe way."
"Do you have any ideas?" Luo’er asked.
"Not yet, but this door should also be magically enhanced," Tangmo shook her head as she spoke.
The two chatted as they walked towards the door. Tangmo carefully approached the door to check if there were any runes inscribed on it. She then tried to push and pull the stone door from different directions, but the door remained immovably fixed.
"There’s indeed magic reinforcement," Tangmo pressed hard on the door and then stated confidently.
"Why are you so certain in your conclusion?" Luo’er asked.
"Look at this door," said Tangmo, stepping back slightly and lifting her foot to step on the stone door. After applying a bit of force, she fell backwards but was fortunately caught by Luo’er.
"The entire door didn’t budge at all, as if it’s one with the rock wall, which doesn’t seem like the normal weight this door should have," Tangmo explained, looking up at Luo’er behind her.
"So you think this door should be lighter?" Luo’er asked while helping her to stand.
"Of course, at least it should feel movable," said Tangmo.
"But, like those thick vault doors on Earth, once they’re closed, no matter how hard we try, they also won’t budge," Luo’er questioned with a frown.
"That’s Earth’s technology, this is the Otherworld," Tangmo paused, then explained, "Moreover, this is a tomb more than a thousand years old. Do you think with the productivity of that time, people in the Otherworld could achieve a door as seamless as a vault door?"
"That makes sense, so what do we do next?" Luo’er nodded, then pondered.
Stepping forward, Tangmo gently touched the stone door. The surface was relatively smooth without obvious grooves of rune inscriptions. She sighed, then shook her head and said, "It seems like the runes for this door are inscribed on the back; solving it is going to be troublesome."
"Just a bit troublesome, not impossible?" Luo’er asked with some surprise.
"Of course," Tangmo glanced at him and said with a proud smile, "I am a senior magic expert, after all. You can totally trust me to accomplish anything."
"Yeah, I’m relying all on you," Luo’er responded with a smile.
"Hehe..." Hearing Luo’er’s words, a look of satisfaction appeared on Tangmo’s face. The fact that Luo’er said he was relying on her was something that she found very pleasing.
After a bit of playful banter, Tangmo continued to seriously study the potential traces of a magic array on the door. If she couldn’t find traces of the magic array, she would have to deduce the pattern based on her understanding.
Actually, this method was like cracking a password lock, mainly relying on guesswork, using the Exhaustive Method to deduce the correct answer step by step.
Tangmo strove to recall any possible rune magic circles related to this door and then correspondingly sought out methods to break them.
As mentioned before, decoding Rune Magic Circles primarily relies on external connections or direct modifications, and among these methods, external connection is a relatively controllable and safe method, which doesn’t lead to the Rune Magic Circle becoming disordered.
In fact, surrounded by these mechanisms, Tangmo could conduct many magical and physical detections to ultimately deduce the correct answer, but Luo’er had repeatedly instructed to keep the noise down as much as possible to avoid disturbing the Snow God, so most methods were not viable, leaving only this simplest and most tedious method to try step by step.
Actually, if the door wasn’t fixed with runes or a magic array, the Advance Team could have used some brute physical means to force it open. After all, they were equipped with Kedal metal weapons, which are most effective against physical barriers.
Tangmo observed the stone door while swiftly jotting down data in her notebook, and within a short time, she had filled several pages with notes and sketched several possible rune patterns.
This ability of hers was what Luo’er admired the most: she could hand-draw the most precise rune patterns.
Although Haiya Academy’s Graduation Exam also relied on the drawing of rune patterns, the requirements were not particularly strict. Generally, a correctness rate of over fifty percent for the drawn rune patterns was considered passing. Luo’er had worked hard and just managed to cross eighty percent, while Tangmo was a top student approaching an impressive ninety-five percent.
Apart from other things, just the fact that Tangmo could draw a perfect circle freehand was enough to impress Luo’er. Although not all Rune Magic Circles are circular, most traditional ones are.
But on the other hand, it’s not necessary for the construction of Rune Magic Circles to be absolutely precise, but the accuracy of the pattern is crucial. Simply put, the circle doesn’t have to be perfectly round, but the details within must be precise, as only then can the Rune Magic Circle function magically.
A deviation in the drawing might at best prevent activation, or at worst, lead to disorder. As for the consequences of disorder, as has been said before, mages have died due to a disordered Rune Magic Circle in the Otherworld could circumvent the Earth.
So, in fact, Tangmo’s ability to draw a precise circle with her hands doesn’t increase the power of the Rune Magic Circle, but it’s nonetheless a bonus. And even so, Tangmo is a very outstanding mage, calling her the top of the magic department at Haiya Academy isn’t an exaggeration at all.
"Hmm..." After a while, Tangmo stared at her notes, her brow furrowed in thought, her fingertip moving back and forth over the notebook as she murmured, "Calling the roll, whoever is called is it..."
"What are you doing?" Luo’er approached curiously and asked.
"The safety levels of these decoding methods are all similar, so I’m thinking about which one to try first," Tangmo said without looking up.
Looking at the complex rune patterns drawn in her notebook, Luo’er couldn’t help but remark in awe, "Wow, if we have to try all these runes, it’s going to take so much effort."
"Actually, it’s not that bad, trying them all out might just take about two days," Tangmo reassured him.
"Isn’t there a shortcut?" Luo’er couldn’t help asking.
"Well," Tangmo lifted her gaze to him, "in the Otherworld, magic is akin to science, and there are no shortcuts in science, hence, there are no shortcuts in magic either."
"Okay, I stand educated, seems like I was a bit too eager for quick success," Luo’er said with a wry smile.
"Am I becoming more and more like a prudent wife?" Tangmo asked with a smile, her head lowered.
"You, why do you bring it back to that topic..." Luo’er coughed awkwardly, his face immediately flushing red.
"No outsiders here, what’s there to blush about." Tangmo gave him a reproachful look, then subconsciously turned her head to glance at Feng, who was observing the glowing runes.
"Thinking about it, I still find it very embarrassing," Luo’er said, looking down, too shy to meet her eyes.
"How does it feel like I’m the male protagonist of a novel, while you, on the other hand, seem like a shy and gentle female protagonist, a vegetarian man paired with a carnivorous woman?" Tangmo said with a smiling gaze.
"What are you talking about?" Luo’er, not an avid reader of novels, naturally didn’t grasp Tangmo’s meaning.
"Never mind, Luo’er, come help me. I’ll try a few first, then I’ll draw the rest of the patterns for the subsequent groups to continue testing," Tangmo instructed, squatting down and placing her notebook on the ground, while retrieving a Magic Crystal from her person.
