Chapter 910: Chapter 903: Time Together
"I knew you’d try something," Luo’er said, extending his hand to cover her mouth, smilingly, "No, that’s not allowed. No messing around."
"There’s no one watching." Tangmo pouted in dissatisfaction.
"Who says there isn’t." Luo’er gestured towards Feng, who was following behind them.
With a look of grievance, Tangmo glanced at Feng and then looking up at Luo’er with furrowed brows, she said, "You’re doing this on purpose, right? We only need the two of us, but you just had to add Feng as a third wheel."
"Behave yourself, and I won’t pick on you," Luo’er said, narrowing his eyes, without denying his intent.
"Luo’er!!!" Tangmo called out unhappily.
"Alright, alright, let’s finish the task first," Luo’er said helplessly, "In a place like this, you’re still thinking about getting cozy? You must be thinking with your lower half."
"Isn’t that phrase used to describe men, Luo’er? Why aren’t you manly at all?" Tangmo asked, morosely.
"No talking about feelings during work hours," Luo’er said earnestly.
"You don’t want to touch me in private either," said Tangmo, feeling aggrieved.
"I don’t do things that cross the line; I think there should be a limit to interactions between men and women," said Luo’er, seriously.
"I don’t care about limits. As long as you’re willing, I have no problem taking the initiative," Tangmo said, her head lowered, her voice shy.
"That’s exactly why I need to keep my distance from you," said Luo’er, shaking his head with a bitter smile.
"Hmph, I’m not talking to you anymore," Tangmo huffed, letting go of Luo’er’s neck peevishly, and then stomped ahead of him.
"Watch your step, don’t step on a trap," Luo’er reminded from behind.
"I know," Tangmo replied without looking back, her voice still held annoyance but she responded to Luo’er’s concern nevertheless.
Knowing she couldn’t take advantage of Luo’er, Tangmo no longer insisted and instead poured all her energy into the task at hand, hastening to find the method to open the main tomb chamber door and the locations of the traps.
The magic array traps activated by spells severely limited her manoeuvring space, making it seem as though they were in a room filled with gunpowder where no one dared to make a careless move, for fear of accidentally creating a spark that could ignite all the gunpowder inside.
Fortunately, besides spells, magic had other forms of expression, such as runes or magic arrays.
The entire passageway was pitch black, relying solely on their few flashlights wasn’t enough to meet their lighting needs, so Tangmo created a very simple magic array on spot. The array had no special significance; it merely channeled magical energy to converge. Tangmo needed the cold light produced by the magic array when it was activated.
Yesterday, Tangmo had confirmed that spells for converging magical energy wouldn’t trigger the nearby magic array traps, which was like clearing a minefield for them to tread on.
She used a magic crystal as the power supply for the magic array, embedding three open-source magic crystals to increase the output power to the highest. Waving her magic wand and chanting a spell softly, in an instant, the entire magic array burst forth with a blinding light so bright it was hard to look at directly.
"Isn’t that too bright? Can’t see anything that way," Luo’er said, shielding his eyes.
"Hmm, I’ll lower the power a bit," Tangmo said, grabbing one of the magic crystals embedded in the array and pulling it out to toss it aside. Instantly, the previously dazzling light dimmed considerably and softened.
"There, that should be fine now," Tangmo got up and dusted off her hands, "This array is powered by the magic crystals and won’t disturb the magical energy in the air, so it shouldn’t cause any unnecessary trouble."
"Is there anything I can help with?" Luo’er stepped forward and asked as Tangmo prepared for their work.
"Just recharge my magic," Tangmo turned around and pouted.
"Refused, make another suggestion," Luo’er said, waving his hand.
"Humph, humph, humph, knew you weren’t serious," Tangmo didn’t mind, as this was almost expected.
She took out pen and paper from her backpack to record the discovered magic array traps, while turning her head to tell Luo’er, "Hold the light for me."
"Oh, all right," Luo’er nodded and followed her from behind.
Tangmo stood still, taking notes with pen and paper. Turning the Rune Magic Circle into computable data was a unique discovery by Earth’s scientists. It was precisely because of such findings that Earthlings were able to make rapid progress in the study of magic.
When Tangmo was truly focused, she became very quiet, earnestly recording data with her head lowered. From Luo’er’s perspective, he could see her barely visible, white neck. Since she always needed to hold a magic wand to drive magic, she had a habit of wearing fingerless gloves. At this moment, the fingers she exposed were already red with cold, causing Luo’er to frown.
"I always feel..." Luo’er stood behind her, looking as if he had something to say but hesitated.
"Feel what?" Tangmo looked up at him and asked.
"The current you seems to be becoming more and more like Momo," Luo’er said with a smile.
"Momo..." Tangmo paused for a moment, then smiled and asked, "So, do you actually prefer my sister?"
"That’s not it, I like both of you," Luo’er said waving his hand.
"You’re such a flirt," Tangmo glared at him reproachfully, then continued to look down and calculate, but her ears had already started to turn red.
"Actually, each of you has your own characteristics, but I still hope you can maintain your individuality, although I know that the two of you are becoming more and more alike," Luo’er said sincerely.
"So, in fact, you like two people, not just the body of Tangmo," Tangmo said, looking up at him again.
"Uh..." Luo’er took a breath, then continued, "To be honest, I’m quite worried that the two of you will get closer and closer until you become one person. How should I put it, Momo indeed hurt me, but I have indescribable feelings for her, a bit like... Stockholm Syndrome. I always feel that if Momo just disappeared, or merged with you, there would always be an unexplainable sense of regret..."
"Are you serious?" Tangmo asked quietly, looking at him with an unreadable expression.
"Yes, it’s like a confession," Luo’er nodded in reply.
"Sigh..." Tangmo suddenly sighed, then shook her head and said, "You really can’t let her go. I’m busy researching magic now, so I can’t release her just yet. If I did release her now, I reckon you would be in trouble."
"No, don’t let her out, I can’t handle her," Luo’er said anxiously, waving his hands.
"If she were to take action, would you refuse her?" Tangmo asked with a plaintive tone.
"Definitely," Luo’er nodded resolutely.
"I don’t believe it." Tangmo shook her head and continued to record notes.
Although chatting with Luo’er was important, the work in her hands was equally important. If they couldn’t handle the main tomb chamber, they wouldn’t be able to find what they needed.
"Strange..." As Tangmo calculated and checked the ground and walls around her, she couldn’t help but mutter with a furrowed brow.
"What’s strange?" Luo’er asked.
"There are no traces of carved or drawn magic arrays on either the ground or the walls. How did they draw the runes?" Tangmo said with a serious look.
"Maybe they used some kind of invisible material to draw with?" Luo’er suggested.
"It’s possible, but considering that this tomb is at least a thousand years old, I’m wondering if a simple drawing would have made the magic array ineffective long ago. After all said and done, I still think carving would be more reliable," Tangmo remarked.
"But there are no traces of carving in this area?" Luo’er asked.
"Yes, that’s what’s troubling me. I think the best approach now is to try activating some of these traps to see where exactly they are distributed and to examine what form they’re preserved in," Tangmo said with concern.
"Absolutely not, if we disturb the Snow God again, we’re going to be in trouble," Luo’er immediately rejected her suggestion.
"But if we don’t do this, we’re basically groping in the dark," Tangmo said, looking at Luo’er, "Actually, I was thinking, the magic power stored inside the Snow God is finite. If we mess with it a few more times, it probably won’t be able to release cold air anymore, and then we can do whatever we want."
