Chapter 890: Chapter 883: Arriving at the Marching Tomb
The next day, when Luo’er opened his eyes, he saw Tangmo’s face close at hand. Although each was in their sleeping bag, to keep their hands from freezing, they slept very close to each other and used a blanket to cover their exposed arms.
Despite this, Luo’er still felt Tangmo was taking advantage of him, seizing the chance to get intimate. However, thinking of her past actions, he couldn’t help but sigh. Such contact was already quite mild.
"Hm..." Not long after Luo’er woke up, Tangmo also slowly came to, making a cute humming sound through her nose.
She tried to lift her left hand but saw handcuffs on her wrist, connected to Luo’er’s right hand. During the night, while Luo’er was asleep, Tangmo had sneakily pulled his hand into her embrace.
"Luo’er, is my bedding warm?" Tangmo asked with a giggle.
"So you did it on purpose, pulling my hand into your bedding." Luo’er said with a wry smile.
"Who knows? Maybe you were trying to steal the keys at night, so you reached out. It’s also possible," Tangmo said, blinking mischievously.
After a pause, she again showed a mischievous expression, asking with a smile, "Luo’er, last night your hand was pressing on my chest the whole time, and I couldn’t move it no matter what. Honestly, if you want something just say it, why so reserved? We’re practically an old married couple already."
"You were the one who put it there, I’m not that desperate." Used to being teased by Tangmo, Luo’er had become immune, no longer as reserved as before.
As he said this, he tried to withdraw his hand from Tangmo’s sleeping bag, but she quickly pressed down on it, clinging onto his hand as if holding a child.
"Come on, stop messing around," Luo’er said.
"I think I’m sick, my nose is stuffed, and breathing is difficult," Tangmo said pitifully.
"You probably caught a cold. Get up and move around a bit, that should help," Luo’er said.
"Luo’er, a good morning kiss!" Tangmo said coquettishly.
"You’re quite familiar with that Western custom now..." Luo’er said, with a look of resistance.
"Please, please, pleeease!!!" Tangmo closed her eyes and whined, having calculated that Luo’er would fall for this, so she was being so persistent.
"You..." Luo’er glanced around and saw that everyone else was still asleep. He sighed softly and then leaned over, gently pecking Tangmo on the forehead.
Tangmo, contented, also tilted her head up slightly and returned the gesture on Luo’er’s cheek, whispering in his ear, "What goes around comes around."
Luo’er was at a loss for words. After they pulled apart, Tangmo keenly saw Luo’er’s face turn red, even his elf ears becoming hot. This was all within her expectation; Luo’er’s skin was just that thin.
"Alright, you’ve taken enough advantage, let me go now," Luo’er said, shaking the handcuffs on his wrist.
"Don’t you like being attached to me?" Tangmo asked, pouting.
"I need to use the bathroom!" Luo’er said, resigned.
"Then I’ll accompany you," Tangmo said without hesitation.
"No thanks, I can aim my own gun," Luo’er responded.
Upon hearing his words, Tangmo clearly paused for a moment, then burst out laughing, blushing as she looked at him reproachfully and asked, "Who taught you to say such things?"
She was surprised to find that Luo’er, a normally serious person, had already learned to crack dirty jokes; it seemed he had changed after all.
The group had stayed in Axia’s house for almost ten days by now, and finally, the weather began to clear, while they also noticed that the snow seemed to be slowly diminishing. This was a good sign, signifying that the Snow Domain’s summer was about to arrive.
Therefore, according to their previous agreement, the Advance Team began to organize their equipment, packed enough dry food, and prepared to travel light to the military tomb Axia had spoken of.
According to Axia’s description, the tomb was about a day’s horse ride from her place. Considering that they might need to stay at the tomb for a while, Luo’er had everyone bring about five days’ worth of dry food to prevent any unforeseen circumstances.
Axia took her G98 rifle with her; it was an old model, newly made, and in decent condition. The only downside was the scarcity of bullets.
Axia, not knowing how to identify the caliber of bullets, had bought a mishmash of ammunition. After sorting it out, they eventually found about fifteen usable 7.92mm round-nosed bullets for the G98 rifle.
However, compared to the rifle, these bullets were indeed antiques. The Germans had developed pointed bullets in 1905, but the rifle would need to be modified to fit these bullets, and obviously, this rifle couldn’t use the 98K’s pointed bullets.
Once ready, the group mounted their horses and came out into the open area. Axia activated the Magic Array Traps inside the house and around the yard, and then led the group away from home, confidently heading toward the location of the tomb.
Axia’s house was located at the foot of the western side of the Winter Mountains. It was not in a remote area; instead, it served as a traffic hub. This was because if one followed the upstream Ebia River to almost its source, they could directly reach the edge of another river, and from there, traveling westward would lead to Luscaque.
Without satellite navigation, rivers are always the best landmarks. During the Aud Empire period, the Aud people built stone paths along the rivers. After a millennium of sedimentation, these stone paths were still functioning as intended, leading people without losing their way in the forest.
The ice and snow had not completely disappeared, but everyone could already feel the chill penetrating their bones. Even though the stone paths were covered by snow, thankfully, Axia still remembered the way, so as long as they followed her, they wouldn’t get lost.
They walked along the stone path for about half a day when Axia suddenly turned onto a smaller path and continued forward. By the afternoon, they had reached a dense forest at the foot of the mountain.
Between the white snow and the bushes, they could clearly see the stone fences by the roadside. Following the fence forward, the sound of the horse hooves distinctly changed. Only then did they realize that they were stepping on hard stone beneath the layers of snow.
"This is just a pile of stones..." Hu Daoke couldn’t help but remark upon seeing the pile of stones assembled into a stone heap.
"In the summer, the nearby trees will sprout leaves, and the ground will grow lots of weeds, so it’s very difficult for anyone to notice this place. When winter comes, the thick snow will bury everything on the ground completely," Axia said, looking back at Luo’er. "That’s why I waited for the snow to melt a bit before coming. If we were to rush here during heavy snow, I might not be able to find this tomb’s location straight away."
"This place doesn’t get many visitors, does it?" Luo’er asked.
"Of course not, it’s so far from the main road. Apart from the Snow Elves’ hunters, who would bother coming to such a remote place?" Axia answered matter-of-factly.
"So, what do we do next?" Luo’er inquired.
"Move the stones on top away, and the entrance to the tomb is right below them." Axia pointed to the stone heap.
"All of them?" Luo’er asked incredulously, pointing at the hill-like stone heap.
"Well... not necessarily, we just need to uncover the door." Axia thought for a moment before responding.
"So, you actually want to take a look inside too, you just didn’t fancy moving these stones, right?" Cheng Ziang asked abruptly.
"Sort of," Axia nodded, adding, "But on the other hand, I’m not really interested in the things inside the tomb."
"How about we use magic to blast it open?" Tangmo suggested, waving his Magic Wand.
"Don’t mess around, we’re at the foot of a mountain, and the snow hasn’t completely melted on the mountain yet. Be careful not to trigger an avalanche," Luo’er waved his hand to stop him.
