Chapter 863: Chapter 856: The Patricide
"Who was the person you assassinated?" Xilia continued to ask.
"Why are you asking this?" Luo’er asked calmly.
Although he remained calm, his mind couldn’t quite make the connection at that moment. Despite his brain working overtime, he just couldn’t wrap his head around it.
"Answer me!" Xilia demanded through gritted teeth.
"Honestly, I don’t remember," Luo’er shrugged, answering truthfully.
"Fine, then I ask you," Xilia took a deep breath, and then pressed on, "was it Tarute Alofflin?"
She glared at Luo’er, her eyes as big as cowbells. Her breathing was fast, and in the cold weather, Luo’er could easily see the white breath puff from between her teeth and nostrils.
"Tarute..." The name struck Luo’er like lightning, bringing a sudden realization, "Tarute Alofflin...you are..."
"Xilia Alofflin," Xilia said through clenched teeth, her face twisting into a ferocious expression, "I thought it was merely a chance, but I can’t believe it actually led me to you, you murderer of my father!"
Xilia spoke agitatedly, her face bearing a dreadful smile, but as she smiled, it was gradually replaced by sobs, and tears flowed down from her reddened eyes.
"Alright, I admit, Tarute was indeed killed by me," Luo’er had no choice but to confess at this point. However, he wasn’t panicked. He had Fulajie’er by his side, ready to act at any moment.
"How did you figure out that we were the murderers of your father?" Luo’er asked, curious despite his composure.
"From the moment I started talking with you, I began to feel that something was off. I had the impression that you were all too familiar with the incident. I tried to connect what you said with what I had experienced, and everything matched. You knew the murderer sneaked into the manor on a rainy night, searched for someone familiar with the manor to take hostage to find my father, and knew what happened before my father died. This forced me to suspect that maybe it was you who killed my father..."
"Especially when you said that the killer of my father might not be the Masya rebels, but someone from the Otherworld. Especially when you mentioned, all of you are from the Otherworld, I deeply suspected this matter might be related to you."
"Admittedly, I don’t actually have solid evidence that it was you who killed my father, but I wanted to try," Xilia said, her face showing a bitter smile, "God bless, my guess was right, I found you, I found my father’s murderer!"
"That’s quite inspirational," Luo’er raised his hands, speaking coolly.
"Shut up, do you know how much I’ve suffered trying to find you?" Xilia hissed.
"So you’re going to kill me for revenge for your father?" Luo’er looked at her, unable to help asking, "Are you really a killer?"
"Shut up, with one pull of the trigger, you’re dead, but I don’t want you to die that quickly," Xilia stated.
"How will you explain to Princess Melia if you kill me?" Luo’er asked calmly.
"What is there to explain? If I kill you, I wouldn’t need to rely on Princess Melia anymore," Xilia said coldly.
"Okay," Luo’er nodded, took a deep breath, and continued, "But have you investigated the reasons behind your father’s assassination?"
"I don’t want to know; I only know that it was you who killed him," Xilia answered.
"That’s not very prudent, I admit I did kill your father, but I don’t feel I did anything wrong," Luo’er said.
"Heh, a bastard like you, feel guilty?" Xilia scoffed mockingly.
"Let’s stick to the facts, personal attacks aren’t very nice," Luo’er said, seemingly unangered, but rather calmly.
"Shut up, who wants to stick to the facts with you!" Xilia spat viciously.
"I have been emphasizing that you should investigate your father’s relationships during his lifetime, but it seems you have never taken it seriously," Luo’er looked at her and said.
"What’s there to investigate? I have already found the murderer," Xilia stated.
"Alright," Luo’er nodded, then looked at her again and couldn’t help asking, "Are you really an assassin?"
"Why do you keep asking that question?" Xilia was obviously getting a bit irritated by it.
"Don’t get me wrong, I’m just curious, if you are an assassin," Luo’er said with a smile, then pointed at her pistol and said, "why didn’t you notice that your magazine is empty?"
"What?!" Hearing Luo’er’s reminder, Xilia was momentarily stunned, then subconsciously moved the muzzle away and glanced at the bullets in the magazine.
And in that critical moment, a flash of cold light appeared before her eyes; she felt the pistol in her hand suddenly become much lighter, and immediately after, a cold blade was placed on her neck, the sharp sensation almost making her afraid to breathe heavily.
In the blink of an eye, Cheng Ziang had completed the moves of disarming her and holding a knife to her neck. His figure, like a ghost, had suddenly appeared beside Xilia.
"When did this happen?" Xilia’s eyes widened, daring not to move an inch.
"You really are not an assassin after all..." Luo’er shook his head helplessly, then lowered his raised hands.
At that moment, members of the Advance Team also suddenly emerged from all around, guns aimed at Xilia, their faces set in serious readiness.
"Thank you, Fula," Luo’er thanked sincerely.
"Eh, I’ve always been by your side, I didn’t call anyone," Fulajie’er said in surprise.
"Then who was it?" Luo’er was also stunned.
"It was me!" At that moment, a cold voice came from behind, as Tangmo quickly walked up to Luo’er’s side, then, biting her teeth, she yanked his ear with a look of frustration as if scolding an unresistant piece of iron, "Do you really enjoy going to the bathroom with girls that much?"
"That’s not the case, be gentle," Luo’er said in pain.
"If I don’t use a bit of force, how will you learn," Tangmo said through gritted teeth, though her body honestly eased the pressure, "You really are hopeless, getting so easily enchanted by pretty girls you lose all sense of direction. How many times have I warned you? The prettier the girl, the more deceitful, except for me, of course, but you never listen!"
"It’s not a big deal; if I hadn’t called for backup in time, you probably wouldn’t even realize you were being sold out," Tangmo said huffily.
"When did you get here?" Xilia asked Cheng Ziang cautiously.
"I’ve been here for a while. You’re quite the amateur. I’ve been by your side for so long and you didn’t notice a thing," Cheng Ziang squinted his eyes and said with a sneer.
"Damn it..." Xilia muttered through clenched teeth.
Baiyue stepped forward, picked up the revolver that Cheng Ziang had halved with his knife, quickly inspected it, and then handed it over to Luo’er.
Luo’er took the relatively intact magazine, looked down at it for a moment, then, in front of Xilia, dumped all six bullets out. Seeing the bullets fall to the ground, Xilia’s face completely changed.
"I’ve been asking you repeatedly whether you are really an assassin, and clearly, you are not," Luo’er casually tossed the magazine into the bushes, then calmly said, "If you were an assassin, you should trust the weapon in your hand unconditionally. If you don’t trust the weapon in your hands, then you shouldn’t have used them in the first place."
"I don’t need your lectures!" Xilia said with a mix of sadness and anger.
"Still so hot-headed," Luo’er shook his head helplessly, turned to glance at Feng nearby, and couldn’t help but feel relieved, "Luckily, it wasn’t that girl who made a move, or you’d be in pieces by now."
"It’s come to this; kill me if you want, don’t say too much. Since the day I swore to avenge my father, I’ve been prepared to be killed," Xilia inhaled deeply, her chin held high with pride as she spoke.
"There’s no need to be so pessimistic, I don’t intend to kill you," Luo’er shrugged nonchalantly.
"You’re not going to kill me?" Xilia looked at Luo’er, her face full of shock.
"An eye for an eye, when will it ever end?" Luo’er didn’t directly answer her question, instead he couldn’t help but express his sentiment.
