Chapter 862: Chapter 855: Turning Against Each Other as Enemies

Luo’er cleared his throat slightly, indicating that Fulajie’er should not lose her temper. After all, with her lethality being well known, if she were to invade Xilia’s domain, it’s likely that Xilia would be scared out of her wits.

One of Luo’er’s strengths was his patience and good temper, so he didn’t harbor any resentment due to such a rejection. Instead, he continued to attempt communication with patience.

"I heard that you are seeking revenge for your father. Can you share some clues with me? Maybe I can help you organize your thoughts," Luo’er took a deep breath, then asked again, his tone calm and even.

Xilia frowned at Luo’er, her suspicious gaze never fading, clearly, she didn’t trust him much. However, Luo’er’s sincere expression eased her wariness a little, and she was not as tense as before.

After clearing her throat lightly, Xilia narrowed her eyes and repeated to Luo’er what she had previously told Cheng Ziang, her voice low.

For her, her father’s death was a nightmare she couldn’t erase. Every time she recounted it, it was like forcibly tearing open her wounds.

Luo’er was naturally aware of this, so he appeared extra serious when she was talking, his face also bearing a hint of guilt.

"So you think that the murderer who killed your father likely comes from the rebel forces of Masya?" Luo’er mused.

"Only for that reason can it explain why my father was professionally killed with Earth weapons," Xilia said, her head lowered.

"That’s not necessarily the case. Nowadays, many mercenaries and assassin organizations use Earth weapons, including you," Luo’er said, turning his head to glance at her.

Seemingly aware of his gaze, Xilia raised her head and glared at him, but she didn’t lash out. Instead, she continued to look down with her eyes narrowed, a sad expression persisting on her face.

"Have you investigated your father’s social relationships before his death?" Luo’er asked.

"I have," Xilia said softly, "although my father had some business disputes with certain people, they were usually only minor conflicts and couldn’t possibly lead to someone hiring an assassin to kill him."

"Weapons..." Luo’er looked up at the drifting snowflakes in the sky, then suddenly a thought struck him. Turning back, he looked at her seriously and asked, "Have you ever investigated whether your father was involved in the smuggling of banned Earth weapons?"

"Smuggling banned Earth weapons?" Xilia frowned at him, not understanding what he was talking about.

"A few years ago, some merchants colluded with Earth’s arms dealers by falsifying military needs and sold a large number of unauthorized Earth military weapons to this world. If your father was involved in this, then his death could very likely be related to that issue," Luo’er analyzed.

"Really?" Xilia looked at Luo’er with a shocked face, as he had found a blind spot in her reasoning, completely changing the nature of the entire incident.

"You should check if your father had any close contact with people from Earth. That might be the real reason behind his murder. Based on your description, the murderer infiltrated with professional methods, killing your father without alarming many people, something that could not be easily done by someone from this world," Luo’er analyzed.

"So you’re suggesting that it’s very likely an Otherworld person who killed my father?" Xilia looked at Luo’er, her face suddenly showing a hint of sadness. Because if that were the case, then she might never be able to find the killer.

"What makes you so sure that the killer has to be an Otherworld person?" Xilia asked unwillingly.

In fact, she wasn’t looking to get the reason from Luo’er but rather was simply seeking some psychological comfort. Even if Luo’er lied to her, saying that it was the rebel forces of Masya who killed her father, she would be willing to believe it.

"Because we are from Earth, which you refer to as Otherworld people?" Luo’er shrugged his shoulders, revealing their true identity.

"You... are Otherworld people..." Xilia’s eyes widened as she stared at Luo’er, only then noticing the incongruous traits about him.

Though he looked like a half Wood Elf, with the characteristic dark green eyes of Wood Elves, he also had extremely rare black hair. Xilia had not looked directly at Luo’er before, only now noticing these unusual features about him.

"If we were to do this kind of job, we could probably achieve a similar effect. Using the cover of night or special weather conditions, like a rainy night, to secretly infiltrate a manor building and then execute the assassination," Luo’er explained.

"I’m not sure if the perpetrators had conducted reconnaissance of the manor beforehand. If not, after infiltrating the building, they would surely have sought out some irrelevant people inside to extract the target’s current location, like servants. But they would most likely not kill these uninvolved people, partly out of fear that bodies could raise an alarm, and also because they might think it unnecessary..."

"Have you done such things before?" Xilia suddenly asked, catching him off-guard.

"Uh..." Luo’er hesitated for a moment before saying with a hint of apology, "I’m sorry, but that’s a secret of ours."

When Luo’er said this, Xilia lowered her head and squinted her eyes as if she were pondering something. Suddenly, as if she had made a decision, she raised her head and asked Luo’er, "Could you accompany me to a place?"

"Where?" Luo’er asked.

"I need to relieve myself..." Xilia averted her gaze, her cheeks suddenly flushing with color.

"This... I can get one of the girls to go with you," Luo’er hesitated before saying awkwardly.

"No, don’t bother them, it will just be a moment, you can wait for me nearby," Xilia said with her head lowered.

"Alright then..." Luo’er scratched his head uncomfortably, then walked up to the coach and told Feng, who was driving, to slow down the pace. Following this, the two of them rode their horses into the woods.

Reaching a clearing, Xilia dismounted and after scanning her surroundings, she said to him, "Could you... dismount and wait for me? It will only take a moment."

"Alright," Luo’er nodded and then followed suit, dismounting and standing on the ground.

"Turn around..." Xilia said as she took two steps back, her feet disappearing into the underbrush.

"Okay," Luo’er nodded and, quite the gentleman, turned around.

At that moment, he suddenly heard the mechanical click behind him, followed by the cold voice of Xilia, "Now, raise your hands!"

"Huh?" Luo’er’s mind didn’t catch up in time, and he stood there in a daze.

"Luo’er, she’s pointing a gun at you..." At that moment, he heard Fulajie’er’s trembling voice.

"Stay calm, stay calm," Luo’er took a deep breath, muttering words of comfort to himself, "Don’t get excited, don’t act rashly, just shield me at the right moment later."

"Are you sure you don’t need me to intervene?" Fulajie’er sounded very worried for Luo’er, her voice changing.

"No need, just follow my orders," Luo’er said calmly.

"Oh..." Fulajie’er responded hesitantly.

"I’ll say it again, raise your hands!" At that moment, Xilia’s voice behind him rose higher and grew colder.

Luo’er inhaled deeply, then slowly raised his hands while gradually turning around. Xilia stood about three meters away from him, holding a revolver in both hands, the dark muzzle pointed at him.

Clearly, Xilia had learned from the last encounter when Luo’er had captured her at close range; this time, she ensured she kept her distance to prevent him from getting hold of her.

"Miss Xilia, what is this all about?" Luo’er asked, staring at her, his smile more mocking than warm.

"You Otherworlders have committed assassinations before, haven’t you?" Xilia asked coldly.

"I’m sorry, this is..." Luo’er began.

"Answer me!" Xilia suddenly raised her voice, cutting off Luo’er.

"Yes, we certainly have," Luo’er shrugged, seeing nothing wrong with admitting it.
