Chapter 818: Chapter 811: The Contradictory Luo’er

"Feng!!!" Hu Daoke let out an exaggerated whine and then opened his arms to embrace the newcomer. Facing his gesture, Feng did not dodge but instead held his knife in a reverse grip and, as a courtesy, hugged him back.

"It’s good that you came; otherwise, we would have been in trouble," Hu Daoke said gratefully.

"I, I will protect you all." Feng, not knowing what to say in response to Hu Daoke’s enthusiasm, struggled for a while before he stammered out a reply.

"Feng, has that Eve shown any movements?" Luo’er asked seriously after a brief pause.

"No," Feng shook his head and answered earnestly, "After you left, she and her brother have been staying in their room the whole time without going out."

"Then, has she made any strange moves?" Luo’er continued to inquire.

"I’m not sure," Feng shook his head, answering truthfully.

"Well, it seems we’ll only know by asking Fula. Is she still watching them?" Luo’er questioned.

"Mhm!" Feng nodded.

"Let’s go back and talk about it," Luo’er said, and he couldn’t help but look back, then said with concern, "It looks like something’s not right. We might need to rearrange our plans."

With Feng’s help, the two of them finally managed to shake off their pursuers. Now Luo’er understood that no matter what, the Advance Team could no longer do without Feng.

In the current situation, they could only rely on Feng’s overwhelming force to settle everything. Although the Advance Team was battle-hardened, their equipment was not much more advanced than the enemy’s. This meant that once the battle started, they could easily become deadlocked and unable to win quickly.

The physics of the Otherworld severely limited the performance of Earth’s technologies, and so the Advance Team, even with slightly more advanced weapons and equipment, could not form a gap with the enemy.

The enemy’s weapons may be somewhat behind, but not by much. Even the 2047 trooper rifle was not much stronger than the AK47, which was standardized in 1947.

This meant that the key to deciding the outcome of a battle could only depend on the military quality of the combatants. And clearly, the military quality of these people was not much worse than that of the Advance Team.

Although the Advance Team was specialized, as is often said, mastery of special skills is essential. The Advance Team was just a special force designated for reconnaissance missions, and when faced with the enemy’s overwhelming numbers, they were still at a disadvantage.

In previous wars, Luo’er had been seeking a technique that could produce a crushing force. The Quick Attack and Fierce Combat Tactics favored by the Advance Team were born from such strategic considerations.

The Quick Attack and Fierce Combat Tactics focus on close engagement, then leverage the advantage in firepower to crush the enemy in a single wave. The core of the tactic is expulsion, not annihilation.

In fact, had the Advance Team adhered to annihilation tactics, they would have struggled in many battles because the weapons and ammunition they carried could not support a war of annihilation.

Thus, in past battles, the Advance Team only expelled the enemy, never pursuing them to the bitter end because they did not have the strength to eliminate everyone. The few times they achieved total annihilation was either because the number of enemies was small, or because the enemy had made some mistakes in their deployment after an ambush, allowing the Advance Team to annihilate the enemy force with minimal ammunition.

The arrival of Feng marked the first qualitative leap in the Advance Team’s combat power. From that moment on, the Advance Team could firmly believe that they could defeat the many with few, and utterly destroy the enemy.

The Advance Team, having Feng, was like a guerrilla force that suddenly possessed the ability to call in close air support at any time. It gave a team that was only capable of minor skirmishes the power to obliterate an entire enemy battalion.

Although Luo’er kept reminding himself not to rely too much on Feng’s combat power, the fact remained that without Feng, the Advance Team was still the same Advance Team, merely capable of expelling the enemy—not the Advance Team that could now annihilate the enemy.

On the way back, Luo’er constantly pondered over this issue, inadvertently taking several more looks at Feng, feeling a trace of emotion in his heart.

He remembered the methodological approach to rules he had learned in high school; the Otherworld had its own laws. Rather than blindly believing in the laws of Earth, it was better to respect the physical laws of the Otherworld and try to take advantage of them.

Without a doubt, Feng was a classic representative of respecting and utilizing the physics laws of the Otherworld.

"Ah, magic..." Luo’er suddenly sighed, without any apparent reason.

"Boss, what’s wrong?" Hu Daoke curiously looked at him and asked.

"It’s nothing," Luo’er shook his head and then said seriously, "Whether Eve has any problems or not, we can’t really continue to stay in Holy Heart City. It’s best if we move to the outside of the city right away."

"Why?" Hu Daoke asked in surprise.

"I always feel that the conflict between these two guilds will sooner or later evolve into a large-scale war. If we’re still here by then, and if the Holy Heart City’s army gets involved, and then we let the Church Court intervene, by that time it will really become a complete mess. We might not even remember why we started fighting in the first place," Luo’er said with a shrug.

"What about Azita, then? Just gonna ignore him?" Hu Daoke asked.

"We can’t manage him anymore; after all, we never thought about protecting him at the beginning. We only sought him out because we needed a foothold in Holy Heart City, otherwise I wouldn’t care about his life or death," Luo’er said.

"Alright, then let’s retreat first and not get mixed up in this matter anymore," Hu Daoke said, not without a feeling of lingering fear, "At first, I thought about joining the excitement, but ever since that sniper shot at me twice, I get nervous just seeing high towers."

"We wouldn’t worry about that sniper if we had Fula by our side," Luo’er said with a smile.

"Now that they’re not by our side, I always feel like I’m going out without my equipment," Hu Daoke couldn’t help but complain.

With Feng’s company, the two’s tense nerves finally relaxed quite a bit, and they returned to the inn with laughter and conversation.

Luo’er went into his room and gestured for Hu Daoke to close the door, then had Feng summon Fulajie’er back. Soon after, the magic power in the air suddenly twisted violently, and then Fulajie’er just appeared out of nowhere in front of everyone.

"Wow, Luo’er, you finally came back. There were gunshots outside, and I was so worried about you," Fulajie’er threw herself into Luo’er’s arms and said excitedly, hugging his neck.

Although he couldn’t feel her touch, Luo’er could feel her inner worry and felt warmth in his heart, then he smiled and said, "Don’t worry, we’ll be fine."

"After you left, I’ve been worried about you. I kept thinking about finding you, but I was afraid you would say I deserted my post, so I’ve been in a dilemma," Fulajie’er let go of Luo’er and then floated back and forth in front of him, saying with a wronged face.

"That’s good, I wasn’t planning on having you come, you’re very disciplined," Luo’er said with a smile, praising her.

"But I was worried about you," Fulajie’er pouted, saying earnestly.

"Sorry, I was indeed careless this time, making you worry, and for that, I’m really sorry," Luo’er replied apologetically.

"Xiao Fula, did Eve really do something sneaky? That sniper outside almost scared me to the point of peeing my pants," Hu Daoke interrupted their conversation and couldn’t help but ask.

"She’s been very quiet, always staying with her little brother. I didn’t see her doing anything unusual," Fulajie’er said, but then suddenly frowned and added angrily, "If she really turns out to be the enemy, I will have Feng chop them down!"

Hearing her words, Luo’er and Hu Daoke couldn’t help but look at each other and took a deep breath.

Fulajie’er was neither a weak girl nor a harmless ghost. Composed entirely of pure magical power, she operated magic with almost no loss, even more formidable than those genius mages.

The reason she didn’t show her combat abilities was partly because she was not yet familiar with spells and runes, and partly because Luo’er didn’t want her to kill, hoping she would only take on covering and assisting roles.

Otherwise, with Fulajie’er’s strength, if given strict training, her combat power would not be inferior to Feng’s. Moreover, the more bugged aspect was that she could hardly be killed.
