Chapter 812: Chapter 805: The Reverse Scheme
"So you think!" Luo’er’s eyes widened, and he suddenly had an epiphany.
"I’m concerned it might be a double-cross. If that’s the case, then you need to be careful around her," Tangmo said nonchalantly.
"Oh," upon hearing Tangmo’s words, Hu Daoke also quickly realized, widening his eyes and saying, "I remember, ever since we encountered those two, we haven’t had a single good day. We’ve been hunted every single day."
Luo’er bowed his head, lost in thought. Tangmo’s speculation wasn’t unfounded; indeed, ever since they had met Eve and her sibling, one misfortune after another had befallen them. Initially, Luo’er thought it was the capability of the Booze Ghost Gang, but this reminder made him start to doubt Eve as well.
"In any case, you must be extra careful when you’re out and about, especially you," Tangmo said, giving Luo’er a reproachful look, then with a hint of jealousy added, "The moment you see a pretty girl, you can’t move on, willing to trust her unconditionally, never once doubting her intentions."
Facing Tangmo’s display of jealousy, Luo’er didn’t know what to say, so he could only scratch his head awkwardly, not daring to utter a word.
"It’s true, Sister Momo," seeing Luo’er too embarrassed to speak up, Hu Daoke thoughtfully spoke up in his stead, "The boss has been very restrained outside, hasn’t messed around. Eve does have value, which is why we made contact with her."
"Humph," hearing his words, Tangmo hummed noncommittally twice, then turned to Luo’er and said, "Then why is it that every time, it’s a girl involved with him? Don’t tell me it’s because he’s handsome. The Otherworld discriminates against half-elves."
"Uh, that... girls do tend to gain people’s trust more easily..." Hu Daoke and Luo’er exchanged glances, then scratching his head, he said.
"Humph, I knew it would be like this," Tangmo sniffed indignantly, then puffing up her cheeks, she prodded Luo’er’s chin with her index finger and said, "Listen up, Luo’er, the prettier the girl, the more likely she is to lie. The only reason I don’t lie to you is that I like you, otherwise you would have been sold by me long ago."
Baiyue sat to one side, looking at their affectionate interaction with a tinge of jealousy, feeling both annoyed and shocked. Clearly, in terms of communication and interaction, she was somewhat inferior to Tangmo; the previous Moumou was hard enough to deal with, and this little witch-like Momo was even more challenging.
"Alright, I appreciate your concern, but you’re getting too clingy," Luo’er said helplessly as he pushed Tangmo away, then heaved a sigh of relief.
"Luo’er, let’s sleep together tonight," Tangmo made a seductive glance at Luo’er, then said softly.
"That’s not possible," Luo’er flatly rejected her advances without a second thought.
"Why not?" Tangmo asked, staring at him.
"I always feel like you’ll do something naughty, so let’s not," Luo’er sized her up and down, then honestly replied.
"We’re a couple, why can’t we ’do something naughty’?" Tangmo said discontentedly.
"We’re currently on a mission, let’s not do things unrelated to the mission," Luo’er replied.
"What do you mean ’unrelated to the mission’," Tangmo pouted, then once again showed a sly smile, before saying with giggles, "I know what you’re worried about, don’t be afraid, the birth rate among Elf Race hybrids seems to be very low, so we... wu wu wu..."
Before she could finish, Luo’er, blushing, covered her mouth, leaving her to make helpless muffled sounds.
"Enough, enough, you’re getting more and more outrageous. I’ll stay with you before we sleep, alright?" Luo’er said as he covered her mouth, shaking his head in resignation.
Hu Daoke, observing their tangled interaction, couldn’t help but sigh in amazement; Tangmo and Luo’er appeared to be the curious combination of a carnivorous girl and an ascetic boy. One was open and aggressive, always pushing forward, while the other was self-disciplined, preserving his purity.
In the following hours, Luo’er and Hu Daoke stayed in the living room without leaving. After a rest at noon, Tangmo and the others had to go to class again. Before leaving, she seemed reluctant to part, but still forcibly replaced by her sister’s body, she headed to the classroom for class.
"Boss, if Sister Eve and her brother really are up to something, what should we do?" Hu Daoke asked.
"Hmm," Luo’er reflected for a moment, then said, "Anyway, this is just a guess from Momo. We’re not sure if Eve really is a CIA spy, so I think it’s not advisable to startle the snake by hitting the grass."
"But if we don’t do something, what if she plots against us behind our back? How shall we handle it then?" Hu Daoke asked with some concern.
"Without startling the snake, we can test her a bit to confirm whether she is a spy through her slip-ups," Luo’er pondered and said.
"How to test?" Hu Daoke asked.
"I don’t have any good ideas at the moment. Let’s talk about it after we reach the inn. Anyway, we have Feng with us, so at least there’s a bottom line, right?" Luo’er said.
"Then you make the call. If we confirm she’s a spy, then shall we?" As Hu Daoke spoke, he made a throat-slitting gesture.
Luo’er thought for a moment, then nodded in agreement and said, "If she really is a spy, let’s see if we can get some valuable intelligence from her, then deal with her. We can’t be as negligent as we just were."
"Don’t worry, before the interrogation, we’ll break her legs first so she won’t be able to run away," Hu Daoke said, baring a cruel smile.
The two stayed in the academy until the next day and departed for the East District early the next morning.
Their departure was early, while the sky was still dimly lit. They tiptoed out of their rooms into the living room. The girls’ doors were not closed, and they could even hear their steady breathing. Tangmo even muttered a few words in her sleep, but they couldn’t make out what she was saying.
The two arrived at the academy’s stable, where the coachman had already gotten up and was waiting outside. They quite admired his professionalism; it was so early that the sky hadn’t even brightened, and he was already standing there.
Riding in the carriage, they headed for the East District. The soldiers guarding the bridge hadn’t rested either and were dutifully posted at the bridgehead. However, they still didn’t dare to inspect the Magic Academy’s carriage and could only silently choose to let it pass when they saw it approaching.
Since it was early morning, the coachman drove quickly, taking less than half an hour to deliver the two to the East District. When they got off the carriage, the entire district was still asleep.
A thin layer of cold mist enveloped the district. With no street lights, the streets appeared exceptionally dark and deep, giving one an eerie feeling.
After alighting, the two exchanged a tacit glance and then both drew their guns. This area was not like the Uptown District; to get to the Booze Ghost Gang’s territory from the commercial area, they had to pass through the Booze Ghost Gang’s domain. So, they were also worried about whether there might be hungry dogs watching them in the dark.
One in front and one behind, they headed towards the Booze Ghost Gang’s territory. Luo’er led the way while Hu Daoke kept watch behind. In this way, they cautiously guarded each other, slowly making their way to the inn along the pitch-black streets.
Of course, thanks to the existence of Fulajie’er, Luo’er wasn’t nervously jumpy. While Fulajie’er’s patrol wasn’t as wide-ranging as Feng’s sensory range, it was undoubtedly better than nothing.
In the darkness, they were accompanied by a Ghost; the thought of ghosts and spirits was not at all a concern for them. What they were really afraid of were the figures hiding in the darkness.
Filled with relief but unarmed, the two finally made it to the inn, where they let out a light sigh. By then, daylight had arrived, and the dawn light from the southeast scattered their shadows, also dispersing their worries.
Just as they reached the doorway, they heard a commotion overhead. Following that, a petite figure jumped down from the second-floor window ledge, sword in hand, and landed steadily in front of them.
