Otherworld Advance Team -
Chapter 760 - 753: Reimer’s Doubts
Chapter 760: Chapter 753: Reimer’s Doubts
The atmosphere within the Advance Team became somewhat oppressive due to Luoer’s incident. However, it was fortunate that they didn’t share a transport plane with Mu Lansi’s body, otherwise the strain would have been even more intense.
The surprise attack was followed by a battle for control over Asirens that lasted over three hours. Reimer’s predictions were considerably off the mark; after they had successfully seized the anti-gravity engines and the command centre, the enemy did not surrender and continued to resist stubbornly in their desperate situation.
Yet that wasn’t the Advance Team’s concern anymore. Two transport planes flew towards the flagship stationed in the rear, one after the other. Since Luoer was injured, the Advance Team declined Reimer’s request for assistance in attacking Asirens.
The battle continued until dawn, but by then, the members of the Advance Team had already retired to their individual cabins for rest, leaving Reimer with the taxing situation.
By noon, the air fleet had fully taken control of Asirens. Though the battle had caused some damage to Asirens, it was negligible compared to the destruction that would have occurred if it had been shot down.
Even though Luoer had repeatedly emphasized before the attack for Feng to control her power, given the situation Baiyue reported, she had overdone it and directly damaged one of the anti-gravity engines.
Fortunately, this type of warship usually has more than six anti-gravity engines, and under normal circumstances, just four functioning engines can keep a warship airborne. Thus, the damage to one engine wasn’t particularly significant, especially in comparison to a direct hit that would have taken the ship down. This was a much better outcome.
After criticizing Luoer, Tangmo and Baiyue started studying the super-mobility airborne technique that Luoer had unexpectedly encountered. Only Moumou, her eldest sister, was able to carry out such research; her other sister, Momo, did not have the patience for it.
Moumou was notably smarter ever since she discovered that she had a younger sister sharing her body. Whenever there were things she was not comfortable or bold enough to do herself, she would have her sister resolve them.
For instance, when it came to scolding Luoer, Moumou would absolutely never have been able to do it. However, her sister Momo was different. Even though she felt bad doing it, Moumou was content to let her sister teach Luoer a lesson.
Luoer needed to rest due to his leg injury, while the two girls needed to carry out their research, so the matter of meeting with Reimer was left to Cheng Ziang. He, along with Hu Daoke, went to the flagship’s command deck. Even though Hu Daoke regularly disagreed with him, he was willing to collaborate in such a serious setting.
Seeing Cheng Ziang and his companion arrive, Reimer ordered his people to uncover the white cloth on the table, revealing a dwarf’s body to everyone present.
"Are we certain it’s Mu Lansi?" Cheng Ziang turned towards Reimer to ask, looking at the body of the dwarf.
"Yes, it is definitely him..." Reimer replied with a hint of sadness in his eyes.
"Very well, this means that our goal has been accomplished. Combined forces of Advance Team and the air fleet have taken down the traitor, Mu Lansi, and recaptured the hijacked warship Asirens." Cheng Ziang said blandly.
"Why would Mu Lansi do such a thing?" Reimer inquired in a daze, looking at Mu Lansi’s body.
"Mu Lansi was a steadfast anti-collaborationist; such actions from his end should not surprise us." Cheng Ziang responded.
Upon hearing Cheng Ziang’s words, Reimer furrowed his brows, his lips twitching as if he wanted to say something but held back.
"Captain Reimer, do you believe that Mu Lansi was wrongly accused?" Cheng Ziang, noticing Reimer’s expression, asked with narrowed eyes.
"No, that’s not it!" Reimer shook his head, clearly contradicting his own thoughts.
"Captain Reimer, now that Mu Lansi is dead and everything is set in stone, if you have any doubts, feel free to ask. There’s no need to keep it all under wraps." Cheng Ziang wandered around the table at a leisurely pace, speaking earnestly to Reimer.
Reimer definitely had a reaction to what Cheng Ziang said, taking a deep breath, then raising his head to look at Cheng Ziang and said: "Personally, I believe, even if Mu Lansi was against cooperation, he did it for Ronisca, for our country."
"So you think..." Cheng Ziang shrugged with a hint of curiosity.
"It is a political murder, orchestrated by the authorities and alliance parties!" Reimer said coldly.
"You believe that we, along with the faction in Ronisca who cooperates with us, forced Mu Lansi onto his own sword?" Cheng Ziang looked at him, his expression slowly hardened.
In response to Cheng Ziang’s doubts, Reimer stubbornly clamped his mouth shut and did not make his viewpoint clear. Apparently, he was still worried about potential implications.
"Actually, you’re not wrong," said Cheng Ziang, his previously hardened expression relaxing a bit. "Neither our headquarters nor the faction collaborating with us wanted Mu Lansi alive; we all hoped to find an excuse to eliminate him. I don’t oppose your opinion, that the anti-cooperation faction led by Mu Lansi did it for Ronisca."
"So, you admit to it?" Reimer looked at him and asked, "You said you would not interfere in Ronisca’s internal politics, yet you sent the special forces to kill our crown prince."
"We are from the headquarters, representing the interests of the Shani people, we do wish for a relatively stable political situation in Ronisca to solidify our cooperation. But I am curious, why do you believe that only the anti-cooperation faction led by Mu Lansi has Ronisca’s best interests at heart? Do you think the cooperative faction led by Commander Mooer is betraying Ronisca’s interest?" Cheng Ziang asked, looking at him.
"I didn’t mention Commander Mooer!" Reimer carefully replied.
"Earlier on, your Ronisca’s anti-cooperation faction created all kinds of trouble, forcing the cooperation faction to clean up the mess. To placate the anti-cooperation faction, the headquarters had to make a lot of concessions. You discovered this trick, and staged it time after time. The commander Mooer is well aware of Mu Lansi’s betrayal but did nothing about him, using him to create trouble and gain more benefits."
"A year ago, due to the involvement of the Advance Team, your scheme failed. Consequently, Mu Lansi became a sacrificial pawn. I believe Commander Mooer has always been looking for an opportunity to dispose of him, but due to the powerful anti-cooperation faction forces within Ronisca, he has hesitated." Cheng Ziang said indifferently.
As he looked at Reimer, the latter was tightly clenching his lips, staring back at him, not daring to say a word for fear of giving Cheng Ziang material to use against him.
"I’m telling you all of this because I want you to understand that at the core, both the cooperation and anti-cooperation factions are serving Ronisca’s interest. It’s just that, compared to the headquarters, the actions of the cooperation faction are more acceptable. Standing on your side, there’s no reason for you to oppose Commander Mooer and support the so-called crown prince Mu Lansi. Don’t forget, Mu Lansi didn’t die because he betrayed his country, but because he was abandoned by Ronisca long ago." Cheng Ziang said.
"Do you have any proof of what you’re saying?" Reimer looked at Cheng Ziang and asked.
"Indeed I do," Cheng Ziang replied, "A year ago, the ones who got involved in the cooperation between Ronisca’s cooperation faction and the anti-cooperation faction were us, the Advance Team."
"What we need at the headquarters is a good working environment, and not the type of cooperation that involves one party causing trouble and the other coming to clean up. We did indeed declare that we would not intervene in Ronisca’s internal affairs, so we didn’t directly interfere with yours. The reason Mu Lansi died was not that he betrayed his country, nor was it our doing. He was killed by your own people, we merely seized the opportunity to add fuel to the fire." Cheng Ziang, shrugging his shoulders, continued.
"I am sorry; I cannot understand such analogies." Reimer waved his hand and interjected.
"You may not understand, but you need to," Cheng Ziang said, "You are the commander of the aerial fleet. A bit of political savvy could make your life much easier. I hope you can remember this: without us, without the headquarters, the aerial fleet that you manage today would not exist. Do you remember what Ronisca’s airships were like in the past, and when did they start to change?"
