Otherworld Advance Team -
Chapter 719 - 712: Opportunity
Chapter 719: Chapter 712: Opportunity
When Luo’er woke up, the vaccine had finally arrived at the camp from Headquarters. Due to hasty preparation, the research center had not yet developed a vaccine that could completely kill the virus, but a decoy vaccine had been formulated to prevent the virus from infecting the human body.
Admittedly, Dr. An Liang’s preparations were instrumental in helping Luo’er. They addressed the concerns of everyone from Lin Wei to the Advance Team, which helped Luo’er safely get through the crisis.
Now, Luo’er only needed some more time to rest and observe before he could be let go. As for Tangmo and Feng, they could have been discharged already, but one of Tangmo’s personalities stubbornly insisted on staying by Luo’er’s side. No one could persuade her otherwise.
Feng had greatly impressed everyone during this mission, swiftly becoming a key member of the Advance Team. Her status had progressively risen, and everyone treated her as an equal member, even Li Si showed respect towards her.
Now, if anyone suggested bringing Feng back to Earth for research, Li Si would be the first to object. The power she exhibited needed to be kept on the front lines where it would be most effective. No one could envisage letting her go for research.
During her time with the group, Feng’s knowledge had increased significantly. No longer as naive as before, she still had difficulty expressing her emotions, always seeming somewhat perplexed.
With the completion of the mission in the epidemic area, the research section of the camp was finally evacuated. Everyone boarded the airboat and set sail for home. There was a palpable sense of relief amongst the crew; they didn’t have to be on edge anymore.
Feng was supposed to be under Tangmo’s care. However, since Tangmo insisted on being with Luo’er, the responsibility of taking care of Feng fell on Baiyue and Shangguan Jiu.
Actually, Li Si had his reasons for allowing Tangmo to stay with Luo’er. As a mage, Tangmo knew how to use healing magic, which could expedite the healing process of Luo’er’s injuries.
As the saying goes, an injury to the muscles or bones takes a hundred days to heal. Without Tangmo, Luo’er would be bedridden for three months due to his current injuries. But with Tangmo performing spells on him every day, this period could be reduced by two-thirds.
On the airborne vessel, Hu Daoke and some others were huddled in the cabin playing a game of mahjong, while Feng was sipping a bottle of cola through a straw.
The cola was provided by the airboat’s cafeteria. For the airboat’s crew, the only mental comfort apart from alcohol, was cola. Thanks to the good relationship between Ronisca and Earth, they could procure the base syrup for cola at a relatively low price from Earth to satisfy the fleet’s needs. No other nations enjoyed this privilege.
"Feng, which card should I play?" Hu Daoke asked, turning his head.
Ever since he had carried the unconscious Feng back to the airboat, Hu Daoke had started treating her as one of their own.
Feng didn’t speak but just pointed at a card while she continued to sip her cola. Hu Daoke, upon seeing this, joyously played the card.
"Ah, sorry, I win!" Wu Tairan exclaimed joyfully as he slowly revealed his hand. Grinning, he said, "Didn’t expect that, did you? Feng is on my side."
"I was thinking of using her memory. I forgot she doesn’t know how to play mahjong..." Hu Daoke said irritably, holding his head in his hands.
"Less chatter, pay up!" Wu Tairan urged.
The "money" they referred to was actually fancily shaped bullets, which they were using as chips. As long as Li Si didn’t find out about their game, he probably wouldn’t care because the Advance Team was a direct combat force under the frontline command. Hence, Li Si was willing to indulge them a bit.
"How long has this airboat been flying? We should be arriving soon, right?" Wu Tairan asked, looking out the porthole.
"Mmm, we should arrive by tomorrow noon." Murong replied, nodding.
"Finally going to get a break." Hu Daoke groaned.
"We should be the ones complaining. We feel like we’ve run our legs ragged during this time." Wu Tairan said.
"Oh, please. Remember when we had to hike into the Masya mountain area? Now that was a real test of endurance!" Hu Daoke retorted, a sudden uneasy feeling striking him every time the frigid winters of the Masya mountain range were mentioned.
He jiggled the water pot on the table, discovering it was empty. He coughed to alleviate his dry throat.
Just then, Feng, who was sitting behind him, handed him her bottle of cola. Hu Daoke motioned her away without looking and said, "No more, no more. If I drink anymore, I’ll get fat."
Feng didn’t speak but insisted on giving him the cola bottle. Hu Daoke paused and glanced at the bottle. There was still half a bottle of cola inside.
"For me to drink?" Hu Daoke turned around with the cola bottle in his hand and asked.
Feng remained silent but blinked her pretty eyes strongly and nodded.
"Eh, Feng is sensible, didn’t spoil you for nothing, I’ll bring you another bottle next time!" Hu Daoke contentedly took the bottle of cola. Under everyone’s envious gaze, he bit the straw and began sucking the cola inside the bottle.
Just as everyone was watching Hu Daoke with envious eyes, the cabin door was suddenly opened. A figure flashed in, giving the four people sitting around the table a big startle and almost made them jump out of their chairs.
"Oh my, it’s Yue’er, you scared the life out of me," Murong patted his chest and said.
"I thought it was Brother Li who came," Wu Tairan said with lingering fear.
Baiyue silently looked around and walked straight towards Feng. She grabbed her wrist and squeezed it lightly a few times, then asked, "Does it still hurt?"
"Uh-huh!" Under Baiyue’s inquiry, Feng nodded, making a humming sound.
"What’s going on?" Hu Daoke turned around, his eyes wide in question.
Baiyue glanced at him, took a deep breath, and explained, "Feng’s circulation of magic power was too strong during the fight, her bodily vessels were damaged."
"Then hurry and get Sister Moumou to check it out!" Hu Daoke said with a worried face.
"Sister Moumou said it can’t be treated now and needed to discuss it with Teacher Zhu and Tangmo once we get back," Baiyue explained indifferently.
"Why?" Hu Daoke asked.
Baiyue pressed her lips together and hesitated for a moment before saying, "Sister Moumou said, this could be an opportunity for Feng. If she can seize this opportunity, it could take her combat abilities to the next level."
"But if she delays treating her injuries..." Hu Daoke frowned as he spoke.
"It’s ok for her to delay for a while. Her body is not like ours, it’s less likely to be eroded by magic power," Baiyue explained.
"Eh?" Hu Daoke exclaimed again.
"What’s the matter again?" Baiyue looked at him and asked.
"I just realized you’ve been talking a lot more, when we were partners, you literally wouldn’t say a word in a day." Hu Daoke remarked.
"People change." Baiyue said with an impassive expression.
"Feng, if your body hurts, let me give you a hug and it’ll be ok!" Hu Daoke extended his arms and joked.
Hearing his words, Feng blinked her eyes and really started walking towards him. Baiyue stopped her in time and glared at Hu Daoke, making a fist-waving gesture at him.
"No, I was just joking, it’s not like I want to take advantage of her. I barely have enough time to shower her with love, why would I take advantage of her?" Hu Daoke waved his hand in defense.
"You guys better watch it, I just saw Brother Li heading this way," Baiyue reminded them expressionlessly while hugging Feng.
"Eh, hurry up" Hearing her words, everyone suddenly became flustered and started to pack the table in a frenzy.
"Don’t rush, let me count the money I won first," Wu Tairan exclaimed.
"Forget it, are you actually planning to save it!" Hu Daoke bluntly retorted.
Taking advantage of the chaos, Baiyue pulled Feng away from the smoke-filled cabin and headed towards the female cabin.
On the way, she pressed Feng’s abdomen and asked worriedly, "Does it hurt here too?"
"Uh-huh!" Feng nodded heavily.
Seeing her reaction, Baiyue couldn’t help worrying about her physical condition. Apparently, the previous battle had severely damaged the vessels and Dantian in her body. Although Tangmo confidently assured that she would be fine, seeing her current situation, Baiyue couldn’t help but worry.
