Otherworld Advance Team -
Chapter 662 - 655: Pre-battle Arrangement
Chapter 662: Chapter 655: Pre-battle Arrangement
The news brought by Fulajie’er was undoubtedly heartening. Previously, Luoer had been pondering how the advance team could escape their current predicament. Now, with the help of the air fleet, they wouldn’t need to flee anymore because the air fleet’s firepower was sufficient to clear all the obstacles in front of them.
The first time Earthlings encountered Ronisca’s air fleet was during the second Otherworld War about thirty years ago. At that time, the vanguard positions of the multinational troops had been bombarded by the air fleet.
But although dozens of airships forming a fleet in the sky looked magnificent, the High-peak people’s artillery technology was several generations behind Earth’s. They were still using solid shells, so the air fleet’s involvement did not change the situation on the battlefield, they only disrupted the battle rhythm of the multinational troops.
At that time, the multinational troops of Earth did not consider aerial threats from the Otherworld, hence they did not carry any anti-aircraft weapons. So they used artillery to shoot at high angles and actually shot down a Ronisca airship.
The true power of the air fleet was evident when the multinational troops’ positions were conquered and they were fleeing in disorder. The dwarves made use of the speed advantage of the airships and chased and intercepted the retreating multinational troops, resulting in them capturing the most prisoners amongst the Otherworld alliance at that time.
But times change. After thirty years of development, the firepower of Ronisca’s air force has gone through countless upgrades. Initially, their airships only had one model which was for ground support. With the deepening of exchanges with Earthlings, they began to experiment with aircraft that could be carried on airships. These tests began over ten years ago, and they have now completed the bulk of the theoretical accumulation.
The current Ronisca Air Force is almost the most powerful airborne military force in the whole Otherworld, bar none. Because airships can hover in the air, this large type of aerial vessel has become a symbol of Ronisca’s military power. As long as an airship hovers, no one dares to challenge Ronisca.
After comprehending the information delivered by Fulajie’er, the advance team held an internal discussion on how to eliminate the anti-aircraft fire points on the ground.
Luoer’s idea remained the same as before, they would use Fulajie’er’s aerial reconnaissance advantage to locate all the anti-aircraft positions nearby, then destroy them one by one.
Now that they had the aid of the air fleet, getting rid of these anti-aircraft positions would be too easy. They just needed to find the positions, manage to approach within a hundred meters, directly fire a red smoke bomb into the position, and then wait for the air fleet’s onslaught.
What Fulajie’er didn’t make clear was that the air fleet’s fire support program is quite cautious. After marking the target with a red smoke bomb, Luoer still needed to ask Fulajie’er to ascend and request a bombardment. Only then would the air fleet open fire, otherwise it would be of no use.
However, considering the current low visibility in the sky, Luoer was somewhat concerned about the bombing accuracy of the air fleet. Even though they had destroyed two 88mm anti-aircraft guns, who could guarantee that there were no others in different positions? Without complete assurance of safety, Luoer dare not rashly order the air fleet to descend to the bombing alert.
The main problem facing the advance team right now was a lack of reconnaissance, with the direct reason being Fulajie’er’s lack of professionalism. But there was no helping it, after all, Fulajie’er wasn’t a real soldier. Also, to be blunt, Fulajie’er joining the advance team was based on sentiment, not obligation. Although she was willing to listen to Luoer, Luoer didn’t really want to confine her with rules.
However, the only person Luoer could rely on now was Fulajie’er. Due to the threat of ground anti-aircraft fire, the air fleet dared not deploy reconnaissance aircraft to provide aerial reconnaissance for the advance team. Now they could only depend on Fulajie’er, who was an ethereal being, to find the positions of the anti-aircraft positions and use the powerful aerial firepower to remove them one by one.
"Fula, I may have to trouble you again," said Luoer, after some contemplation, to Fulajie’er with some difficulty.
"Why are you always so polite to me?" Fulajie’er was obviously displeased with Luoer’s demeanor, which made her somewhat unhappy.
"I want you to partner with Yue’er, and both of you return to the hill highlands to find the enemies’ anti-aircraft positions and map them out. If possible, try to finish gathering intelligence by this afternoon, then return and report to me. If conditions permit, we plan to take advantage of the night to lower the air fleet to the bombing track for aerial support."
"Don’t worry, leave it to me!" Fulajie’er patted her chest, speaking confidently.
"Do you want me to go on a reconnaissance mission with her?" Baiyue asked, pointing at herself in surprise.
"Yes, is there a problem?" Luoer asked, taken aback.
"No, no problem, I guarantee I will complete the mission!" Baiyue shook her head, then firmly replied.
It was clear that she wasn’t used to working with a partner. Though Fulajie’er had been part of the Advance Team for a while, Baiyue had had little contact with her, and thus found her rather unfamiliar.
"Feng, go with them. Your main responsibility is to protect Yue’er. If enemies approach, avoid them if possible. If not, make a clean strike, and don’t raise alarm prematurely."
"Okay!" Feng nodded, having no objections whatsoever.
"Doesn’t this leave us in danger?" Tangmo asked Luoer anxiously as he surveyed their surroundings.
Luoer sighed softly, then replied with a bitter smile, "We can survive without Fulajie’er and Feng, remember how we got through when we first arrived in the Otherworld? That is our work. When did we become so reliant on them?"
Luoer’s words triggered all of them to recall their struggles when they first arrived at the Otherworld. They used to travel mainly by foot, faced threats at any moment, and even needed to keep watch while sleeping. As headquarters continuously advanced their operations in the Otherworld, life began to improve for the Advance Team, but everyone also started to grow lax.
"It’s easy to go from modesty to luxury but hard the other way around," Cheng Ziang sighed in reflection.
"So cultured!" Hu Daoke gave him a thumbs-up.
"Alright, stop derailing the conversation," Luoer shook his head helplessly, then removed the crystal pendant containing Fulajie’er’s spirit from his neck and handed it to Baiyue, "Take this. Fulajie’er cannot be too far from the pendant. You will wear it for now."
"Oh..." Baiyue blinked at him, suddenly getting slow on the uptake. Seeing Luoer extending the pendant, she instinctively craned her neck, indicating him to put it on her.
Watching her gestures, Luoer was taken aback for a moment, then smiled and put the pendant on her. Fulajie’er, who was standing next to them, lamented, "Whimper ... I can no longer feel Luoer’s warmth."
"Feel his warmth? Stop spouting nonsense!" Tangmo retorted loudly, taken aback by Fulajie’er’s words.
"Stingy!" Fulajie’er stuck out her tongue at Tangmo then vanished in mid-air.
Soon, Baiyue and Feng were ready and they departed from the team, heading back to the hills to locate the enemy’s anti-aircraft positions. With Fulajie’er’s help, Luoer was not worried they would fail to find the positions; with Baiyue present, he was not worried about accurately mapping the positions; and with Feng there, he was not fear Baiyue would be in danger. After all, these three weren’t pushovers. If a fight were to break out, they were all capable of collaborating to eliminate dozens of enemies.
Having sent away all the reconnaissance and surveillance forces of the Advance Team, Luoer felt a sense of vulnerable fragility. To ensure their safety, Luoer began to issue surveillance orders: "Little Ke, you and your sister are to be on guard. Ziang and I will discuss the upcoming deployment."
