Chapter 656: Chapter 649: Eve of the Attack
After everything was set up, the Advance Team left two dwarf pilots behind to conceal themselves, and a group of five slowly crept towards the mountain top. After Luo’er had arranged everything, Feng immediately left them and disappeared into the forest.
Having grown up in the deep mountains, she was comfortable in such a jungle environment, and vanished from sight in the blink of an eye.
Without Feng’s powerful human radar, Luo’er could only resort to the next best thing and let Fulajie’er take the lead for reconnaissance. Of course, this wasn’t to say Fulajie’er’s capabilities were insufficient, only that her abilities paled in comparison to those of Feng’s. However, Fulajie’er was capable of doing much more than Feng.
Just as they were halfway up the mountain, Luo’er saw Fulajie’er struggle to appear out of thin air, then she pointed to a location not far away and said, "There’s a person hiding there!"
"A sniper," Luo’er nodded, then turned to Baiyue and said, "Take him out!"
"Coordinates, distance!" Baiyue was installing a silencer on her sniper rifle, asking Fulajie’er at the same time.
"Err... over there..." Fulajie’er didn’t know about these things, could only awkwardly point to the far away.
Listening to her report, Baiyue couldn’t help but roll her eyes and then gave Hu Daoke’s shoulder a pat.
"Hey!" Hu Daoke quickly understood, pulling out his binoculars and targeting the enemy.
"Uh, one o’clock direction, slightly less than a hundred meter away, he is hiding in a shelter, and only his head is visible!" After observing for a while, Hu Daoke reported.
"Understood!" Baiyue nodded, adjusted her sniper rifle, then patted Hu Daoke’s arm again.
Because they were attacking uphill, their field of vision was limited. Baiyue needed to be at a slightly higher position to take out the sniper.
Seeing her actions, Hu Daoke paused for a moment then quickly understood, and squatted down. Baiyue then sat on his shoulders, raising her own position.
Hu Daoke slowly stood up while hugging a tree. Baiyue, sitting on top of him, his field of vision instantly became clear. She mounted her semi-automatic rifle against the tree trunk, took aim, and without hesitation shot.
Through the sniper’s scope, she clearly saw the sniper in the shelter was hit. But she didn’t stop there and pulled the trigger twice more, shooting at the same spot, ensuring the enemy was dead.
Only after finishing all of this did the team dare to move uphill. They arrived at where the sniper was and forcefully removed the bushes and tree branches covering him. A grotesque corpse lay before the team.
His head had been blown away by the bullets, with only half of his brain left intact. The ground was full of blood stains and fragments. It was clear that it wasn’t just one bullet that caused this. After Baiyue’s first hit to his head, she fired two more shots, one of which hit his head again and blasted it apart.
Despite it being a hill less than two hundred meters high, the slope was incredibly steep. The further up they went, the sparser the shrubs grew, and the ground was covered in a thick layer of fallen leaves.
They hadn’t walked more than two hundred meters uphill when they saw a machine gun watchtower built out of sandbags and wood. It was standing tall, its view completely overlooking everything below.
"Hide, hide," Luo’er quickly hid behind a tree trunk, signaling to his teammates behind him and ordering in a quiet voice, "Everyone hide. Sniper get ready to take the shot. Fulajie’er, go scout the inside of the machine gun tower!"
"Yes!" It seemed that she was influenced by Luo’er, as even Fulajie’er lowered her voice as she responded, her figure dispersed and flew toward the tower.
Baiyue immediately dropped to the ground, rolled behind a tree trunk, and began aiming her sniper rifle at the opening of the machine gun bunker.
Before long, Fulajie’er reported back, saying: "Luo’er, there are two people inside. But they’re hiding inside chatting, they aren’t looking at us."
"Understood," Luo’er nodded, then ordered Baiyue, "Sniper, lock on to the machine gun position. When Feng starts to attack, immediately kill the machine-gunner. The rest of you, split into two teams and flank from outside the machine gun tower’s field of fire. The moment the sniper takes their shot, launch an assault."
"Understood!" Everyone nodded. Tangmo looked left and right, then silently crawled over to Luo’er, his intentions were obvious.
"Fula, keep an eye on the pillbox at all times and immediately report any changes to the sniper. Don’t report to me!" Luo’er ignored Tangmo’s actions and continued to command Fulajie’er.
"I got it!" Fulajie’er nodded.
After arranging the plan, Luo’er and Tangmo slowly advanced from the right side of the shooting range. They had to act carefully to avoid making noise with the fallen leaves on the ground and alarming the machine-gunner inside the pillbox.
The machine-gunners in the enemy’s pillbox were not doing their duty properly, but instead were hidden and chatting. This was something Luo’er did not expect. It seemed those two guys assumed there were secret sentinels out there, so there was no need for them to be vigilant.
Soon, the four members of the Advance Team sneaked up to both sides of the pillbox. Now even without snipers, they no longer had to fear the pillbox as they had reached the dead area of the machine gun’s shooting range.
"Check the silencer!" Luo’er lay on a slope filled with fallen leaves, whispering to Tangmo.
Since it was an infiltration operation, everyone’s gun barrel was equipped with a silencer. It can’t completely suppress the gunshot noise, but it can reduce it to a minimum. This achievement was thanks to the breakthroughs in materials science on Earth.
"Luo’er, aren’t you worried about Feng going on her solo mission?" Tangmo suddenly asked a question that was totally irrelevant to the battle.
Upon hearing her words, Luo’er was taken aback momentarily, then responded, "Of course not. According to prophecy, she should not run into any trouble for now."
"Really..." Tangmo squinted at him.
"Why did you suddenly become concerned about her?" Luo’er couldn’t help asking. If his memory served him right, given Tangmo’s personality, any woman who approached him would be considered a rival by her. Since when did she start to worry about Feng’s safety?
"She looks so clueless; I’m just worried that something might happen to her," Tangmo muttered.
"You’re not seeing her as a harmless little sister because she doesn’t pose a threat to you, are you?" Luo’er asked.
"That’s right!" Tangmo blinked her eyes, then nodded in agreement.
"You actually admitted it..." Luo’er was speechless at her reaction.
"Luo’er," Tangmo also lay down on the slope and moved to his side, asking expectantly, "didn’t you see anything about our future in the Prophecy Book?"
"Uh," Luo’er blinked, then said, "Didn’t I tell you I can’t understand it..."
"If you don’t understand it, then why did you burn it in the first place?" Tangmo asked, frowning.
"It wasn’t me who burned it; it was the Prophet who did that..." Luo’er said innocently.
"Hmph..." Tangmo puffed her cheeks, letting out indignant grunts.
"Well, we should look forward to the future with optimism. If we already knew the ending, our future wouldn’t be exciting anymore," Luo’er comforted.
"There are too many girls around you, so I feel insecure!" Tangmo said.
"Well..." Luo’er was left speechless by her remark.
Just then, they heard a burst of gunfire not far away. Clearly, Feng had launched an assault. Luo’er checked the time; it was much earlier than expected. This Feng was quite impressive, having reached one side of their position so quickly.
The noise disturbed the two gunners in the pillbox. They hurried to the observation window, ready to hold up their machine guns and be on alert. But before one of them could raise his gun, a hole suddenly burst open in his head, and he collapsed, lifeless, to the floor.
