Chapter 631 - 624: Exotic Insect Siege

Chapter 631: Chapter 624: Exotic Insect Siege

Before long, Tangmo and Cheng Ziang had climbed to the rooftop to join Luo’er and the others. Seeing them, Luo’er quickly asked, "Did you manage to block the entrance below?"

"We did," Cheng Ziang nodded, "We piled all the furniture and miscellaneous items against it."

"Good!" Luo’er nodded in relief upon hearing his response.

"They are starting to climb the hill!" Baiyue, who had been keeping watch, suddenly reported.

"Prepare for battle!" Luo’er told the two.

After a pause, Luo’er suddenly thought of something and quickly asked, "Where is Feng?"

"She carried the master’s corpse to the second floor," Tangmo murmured and pouted, complaining, "She barely knows him and yet she is so affectionate already..."

"Alright, let’s have her join us here. We leave as soon as the transport plane arrives!" Luo’er disregarded Tangmo’s complaint, nodded in acknowledgment and instructed Fulajie’er.

"I, I’m a bit afraid of her..." Fulajie’er hesitated before stumbling over her words.

"What’s there to be afraid of? She can’t harm you," Luo’er laughed and comforted her, "Besides, she is part of us now."

"Her aura is too strong. I get flustered when I see her, I can’t help it," Fulajie’er whimpered, "I like you when I see you and want to be close to you because your aura doesn’t reject me."

"Enough with your complaints! Why are you telling Luo’er all this?!" Tangmo was immediately jealous upon hearing Fulajie’er’s nauseatingly sweet complaints and couldn’t help but protest.

"Alright, alright, let’s not get hung up on this for now." Luo’er quickly attempted to pacify the situation. He was indifferent to the rivalry happening around him and couldn’t really be strict with them.

"Are you talking about me?" At that moment, Feng ascended the stairs silently with a sword in her hands.

"Have you settled the preparations for the master?" Luo’er quickly asked.

"Yes, when you all are leaving, I will burn this place. It is the master’s fate," Feng replied indifferently.

"It’s ’our fate!’" Luo’er corrected.

"Oh!" Feng looked at him in bewilderment and nodded.

"The Exotic Insects have reached the ridge wall!" Baiyue once again warned abruptly.

"Check your weapons and prepare for battle!" Hearing her words, Luo’er snapped back to reality and quickly ordered aloud.

"I..." Feng said, ready to draw her sword.

"You don’t need to fight, you don’t have a gun, leave it to us." Luo’er told her.

"I don’t need to?" Feng tilted her head at him, hesitated for a moment and then re-sheathed her sword.

Luo’er was well aware of her combat capability. Even though she used cold weapons, her combative strength was absolutely not weak, it even surpassed the total strength of the Advance Team.

But at the same time, Luo’er also knew that Feng was the key to ending this disaster. Therefore, he absolutely didn’t dare to let Feng take risks, even if it meant the Advance Team had to sweat it out.

With the Exotic Insects drawing closer, everyone could hear their distinctive sounds. Cheng Ziang approached the wall looking down to find the ridge had already been seized by the Exotic Insects. If they didn’t have the lookout tower at this point, with their firepower, they’d have been annihilated in minutes.

Clearly, Luo’er had made another reckless decision on this matter by not having the transport plane supply support. Although he was panicking now, he believed they would all be able to leave here safely.

According to the prophecy told by the old man, the Advance Team would take Feng away and help her start a new Chapter in life. Hence, Luo’er would much rather believe they could all dodge this crisis otherwise the old man wouldn’t have made the prophecy.

"Damn, it’s just like the Star Galaxy War Team." Cheng Ziang couldn’t help but exclaim as he looked at the dense swarm of Exotic Insects below. He was thankful he had a rifle instead of a saber this time or else he wouldn’t know how to handle these monsters. After all, not everyone could be like Feng, who could charge in and out as if she was in an uninhabited territory.

"Is the door downstairs shut tight?" Hu Daoke watched him anxiously, unable to resist asking again.

"Rest assured, it’s shut," he paused, looking at the staircase opening less than a meter wide, then continued, "Besides, even if they break in, they won’t be able to come up for a while."

"We might have to hold out for a while, so try to conserve your ammunition as much as possible. Don’t shoot blindly!" Luo’er cautioned.

"Understood!" Everyone nodded.

"Fula, conduct an aerial reconnaissance with the watchtower as the center. If anything happens, notify us in time." Luo’er continued to instruct.

"Got it!" Fulajie’er nodded, then flew into the sky.

"You..." Luo’er looked at Feng, seeming to hesitate.

"What do you need me to do?" Feng asked, expressionless.

"Will you follow my orders?" Luo’er asked.

"Yes!" Feng nodded without hesitation.

"Good, then stay in the middle of the watchtower and don’t move. Leave this area to us!" Luo’er commanded.

"I understand!" Feng nodded and walked straight to the middle of the watchtower.

Then, she took out the blanket with the magic array drawn on it from her bag, spread it on the ground, then knelt down on it and continued to meditate deeply.

Seeing her so honest, Luo’er felt much more at ease. He went to the edge of the wall to observe the exotic insects. At this point, the terrifying creatures had already reached the base of the watchtower. They could not shake the sturdy bricks of the watchtower with their mouthparts or forelimbs, so they could only hop in place helplessly, hoping to jump onto the tower.

Although they had amazing hopping power and could leap to a height of seven or eight meters from a standing position, they proved weak against a ten-meter-plus tower without wings. Agitated exotic insects began gnawing frantically with their terrifying mouthparts. While they could not gnaw through the bricks, the wooden door and doorframe beneath were gnawed to the point of splintering.

"Little Ke, keep watch at the entrance and don’t let them gnaw through the door!" Luo’er commanded Hu Daoke.

"Roger!" Hu Daoke responded loudly, rushing to the spot above the doorway with his light machine gun.

He looked down to see the exotic insects gnawing away haphazardly, causing wooden splinters to fly around the doorway. He immediately aimed his gun downwards and pulled the trigger.

"Dak dak dak dak!!!!!"

He was first to open fire with his light machine gun, the dense rain of bullets shattered the insects’ shells, their deep brown blood splattering all over and occasionally insect limbs would erupt upward.

"Everyone, toss grenades to try and damage the insects as much as possible, see if we can scare them off!" Luo’er looked down and noticed that the insects had slightly retreated due to the gunshots from above. Obviously they were frightened so an idea flashed through his mind, reminding him of the grenades they were carrying.

Upon hearing his words, everyone reached into their pockets, pulled the pin and threw grenades down. The power of the grenades wasn’t enough to damage the tower, so they directly threw them at the bottom of the wall.

Besides traditional grenades, they also had magic crystal grenades which used the magic crystals as explosives. These items were considerably more potent than the traditional ones, so they did not dare to throw this type of grenade directly at the base of the wall, instead they chose the most densely packed spots among the insects.

A series of blasts erupted at the base of the watchtower, accompanied by the pained shrieks of the insects. The powerful blast instantly dismembered them, their deep-brown blood and shattered limbs spraying everywhere.

The fire magic crystal grenades would create large blazes upon detonation, instantly engulfing the nearby insects. This type of fire would burn with the magical energy in the magic crystals and although it would only last for a few seconds, it would create enough heat to ignite everything near it, including the exotic insects.

Immediately, flames engulfed several exotic insects, causing them to howl and shriek in fatal distress. They only took a few steps before they collapsed combustion popping noises crackled from their bodies.

Apparently the insects were quite afraid of fire, which also explained why during their previous combat mission with the Purification Legion, only one nun was victimized in the camp. Presumably, these monsters were afraid of the campfire in their camp; therefore, they only dared to hunt in the outskirts.

Seeing the insects’ reaction, Luo’er’s spirits immediately lifted, but his joy didn’t last long because they didn’t have many fire magic crystal grenades. If they had enough, he would have immediately built a wall of fire around the watchtower to drive the insects away from the area.
