Otherworld Advance Team
Chapter 601 - 594: New Monster

Chapter 601: Chapter 594: New Monster

"Everyone, bear with it a bit. We must not take off our chemical protection suits. I would discuss with the headquarters to see if there is any breathable chemical protection suit available," Luo’er comforted everyone while scratching himself uncontrollably.

Murong silently watched the struggling members, shook his head, and sighed, "That’s why I’ve always believed that not being selected for the Advance Team has been a blessing for us."

"It’s good that you understand, thinking that we’re all living a blessed life..." With Hu Daoke stirring the pot, a line of eczema appeared on Luo’er’s waist. His arm was tangled with Tangmo, so scratching was difficult.

"Drink more water to reduce the internal heat, this will greatly relieve the effects of the eczema," the usually quiet Baiyue suddenly chimed in.

"Really?" Hu Daoke asked while continuing to scratch.

"Absolutely, it’s from my personal experience," Baiyue nodded and replied.

"Then I should hurry and get some water to drink," Hu Daoke responded, starting to look for his water bottle.

"How should we drink it?" Cheng Ziang couldn’t help asking.

"Drink it until you feel like going to the toilet every five minutes at least," Baiyue answered somewhat uneasily.

"Are you not afraid of wetting the bed in the night, brother?" Having heard Baiyue’s answer, Cheng Ziang turned to ask Hu Daoke.

"Who cares! Wetting the bed is better than having eczema. If it doesn’t get better by tomorrow, I won’t be able to fight!" Hu Daoke jumped up from the ground preparing to go fetch water.

"Hey, get some for me too!" Cheng Ziang handed his water bottle to Hu Daoke.

"You spoiled brat," Hu Daoke rolled his eyes at Cheng Ziang, then asked the others, "Who else needs water? I can get it all at once."

"Count me in." Luo’er handed his bottle over.

"And me!" Murong joined in and handed over his bottle.

In no time, Hu Daoke left in a hurry with all the water bottles, intending to bring back as much water as possible for everyone to gulp down in one go.

Watching Hu Daoke leave, Luo’er looked at everyone, then seriously said, "Tomorrow we need to continue the search in another forest. It’s a larger area, and there might be corpse demons lurking around, so we all need to be vigilant."

"We’re listening to you!" Murong responded, smiling at him.

"You’re the Captain, have your own opinions." Luo’er felt slightly uneasy under his gaze and turned his face away.

"But no matter what, you have more experience than us, right?" Murong stated.

"Whatever you say..." Luo’er shrugged, then turned back to find Tangmo already asleep on his shoulder.

In a short while, Hu Daoke arrived carrying a bunch of water bottles, his face showing a strange expression as if he had stumbled upon something. Upon sitting down, he cryptically said, "Boss, someone has just disappeared over there."

"Disappeared?" Luo’er questioned, furrowing his brow. Upon hearing Hu Daoke’s words, everyone immediately became alert, their eyes on him.

"Yes," Hu Daoke affirmed while distributing water, "When I got there, the Legion of Purification was still searching. It seemed that someone had disappeared by the water. Either a nun or a farmer, who went to fetch water, now there were just two empty buckets. There was only a wet patch left by the riverbank."

"Could they have encountered a corpse demon?" Murong asked Luo’er.

"That’s unlikely. If they had encountered a corpse demon, they would know to run back on their own. Compared to humans, corpse demons don’t have a speed advantage, they can only rely on numerical superiority," Luo’er replied, his brow furrowed.

"Exotic beasts?" Cheng Ziang asked with a frown.

"Probably not," Luo’er shook his head, then looked at them and said, "You should remember the situation when we encountered exotic beasts. These stupid creatures can’t control their volume. Wherever they appear, there’s always a ruckus. I saw a lake which is less than fifty meters from the camp. If there were exotic beasts, the purification army would definitely notice."

"That’s strange then, not corpse demons, not exotic beasts, could it be..." Murong pinched his chin, pondered for a moment, and then looked at Luo’er, "Foul play?"

"That’s none of our business. Apart from corpse demons and exotic beasts, let them deal with everything else." Luo’er shrugged, he knew the nature of the Church Court, so he didn’t find such a thing strange.

After a pause, he spoke again with a serious face, "Anyhow, everyone must stay alert. Even though the camp is guarded by soldiers, some accidents can’t be avoided. So, nobody should sleep too deeply and always keep your weapons ready to fire!"

Everyone spent the night with a nervous heart. Just as daybreak approached, the Purification Army had already sounded the assembly call, preparing to pack up and set off.

Hu Daoke yawned, his eyes swollen almost shut. He had drunk so much water that he had to keep going to the toilet during the night. Although his skin rash had improved, his sleep was messed up.

Packing up their things and shouldering their backpacks, the Advance Team was also ready to set off. Not far away, Carter was discussing something with several officers. Suddenly, a soldier rushed over and spoke to him. Carter’s face changed immediately, and he left with the soldier.

"Everyone else stay put, Murong, Ziang, let’s go take a look!" Seeing this, Luo’er waved to the team members.

The three of them followed Carter. They arrived at the lake and then followed the shore to a thicket, where many people were already gathered and several soldiers were standing guard.

As the three approached, they discovered a mangled corpse lying in the thicket. It was the body of a nun, her torso opened by something unknown, her organs spilled out in a mess around her, with most of the organs missing. One of her hands had been severed, lying in the grass not far away, and one foot had been gnawed off at the knee.

Judging by the state of the body, she had been dead for no more than a day and a swarm of flies was buzzing around her. Although the spectators were covering their mouths and noses, there was no smell of decay, other than the smell of blood.

"Captain Luo’er!" Seeing Luo’er and his team coming over, Carter immediately greeted them.

"What happened, is this the missing person from yesterday?" Luo’er asked straightforwardly.

"Yes, this corpse was discovered by a farmer this morning," Carter replied, covering his nose.

"Was she attacked by wild beasts?" Luo’er asked, frowning.

"I don’t think so. If it were a wild beast’s attack, the body wouldn’t look like this," Carter responded solemnly.

Cheng Ziang took a closer look and then asserted, "It’s definitely not a wild beast, and not an exotic beast either!"

"How can you tell?" Carter asked in surprise.

Cheng Ziang looked at them, then squatted down in front of the corpse to take a closer look. He lifted the thigh of the corpse which had been gnawed down to the knee, examined the gnawed part with a frown, then carefully inspected the state of the organs. He stood up, dusted off his hands, appearing to have concluded something.

"Lord Carter, are there any particularly large insects in the forest nearby, about the size of a dog?" Cheng Ziang asked.

"No, how could there be such a thing?" Carter thought for a while, then shook his head firmly.

"Do you have any theories?" Murong couldn’t help asking.

"The body doesn’t seem like it was eaten by wild animals. It’s more like it was chewed from the foot to the knee by a creature with sharp mandibles, including the organs. So if you observe closely, you’ll notice that the flesh around the wounds is messy, but the cut is neat. If it was a wild beast or an exotic beast that attacked and ate her, the body should bear signs of tearing. However, the body bears no such signs," Cheng Ziang analyzed with a frown.

"So, what are you suggesting?" Luo’er asked curiously.

"If such creatures aren’t found in this forest, then it indicates that there might be more than just exotic beasts emerging from the Door of Annihilation," Cheng Ziang told them.
