Otherworld Advance Team -
Chapter 555 - 548: Departure
Chapter 555: Chapter 548: Departure
During these few rest days, Luo’er and others took time to aid Murong and others in training the soldiers, teaching them how to use firearms and modern tactics. Baiyue also helped to train those selected elves prepared to serve as scout troops, while learning Elvish.
The primary obstacle for the Earthling instructors and the Elven soldiers lies in communication issues as they often had to resort to interpreters. Consequently, the military had to teach those Elves to learn Tasta language. Although Luo’er and his companions’ native language is Chinese, basically all instructors sent to Ilanadale can speak Tasta, so there is no need to specially teach these soldiers the difficult Chinese language.
Since reconciling with Luo’er, Luoya has finally been accepted by her mother, and Tangmo and the rest could no longer cling to Nina 24/7, which makes them quite unhappy.
The Judgement Legion stationed outside the city hasn’t caused much trouble, except for complaining about the poor food in Divine Wood Down, lacking any meat. These once luxurious nobles, now struggling for life, dared not to say more.
In previous religious wars, the Judgement Legion usually met with more losses than wins, occasionally triumphing but more often faced with annihilation. Only a handful of people could escape back. Their ability to return home on an airboat after this defeat feels like a luxury to them, hence they dared not complain too much, fearing that Li Si would abandon them in the south, leaving them to trek back home.
Due to Hu Daoke’s injury, the Advance Team stayed longer in Divine Wood Down. It’s been about half a month, pretty much like a mini vacation.
Indisputably, Ilanadale’s medical technology has reached uncanny heights. Hu Daoke’s severe wounds, after soaking with medicine and ointment, completely healed within ten days and didn’t require much use of a splint.
However, this comes as no surprise. The average lifespan of Elves in Ilanadale exceeds a thousand years, and Elves rarely fall ill due to their excellent health. Thus, those who really need to visit a doctor are generally seriously ill. Consequently, Ilanadale’s priests who typically deal with critical injuries and illnesses possess superior skills.
Nightingale spent a good amount of time working on a device that could localize Fulajie’er. She modified some of the watches, which would then continuously activate passive glyphs, releasing a specific type of magic that Fulajie’er would learn and become familiar with.
After a few days of training, Fulajie’er finally got acquainted with this specific type of magic, allowing her to quickly sense and transport herself whenever the Advance Team members release magic using their watches.
In addition to the location watches, Nightingale also designed a magic power output device, mainly installed in the shoulder straps or backpacks of the Advance Team members. This device is activated by Active Runes. When Fulajie’er disintegrates and transports herself, she would instinctively awaken the runes, drawing magic power from the Magic Crystals to reshape her body, thereby minimizing any disruption to the magical forces.
Generally, the disruption caused by Magic Crystals releasing mineral magic into the air is highly minimal, only sensed by sensitive Mages within close proximity.
Therefore, Nightingale’s main purpose in creating these devices is to minimize the disturbance of magic forces, not to eliminate it completely. Unless magic is not being used, both Magic Crystals and Runes will inevitably cause disturbances in magic.
Only seasoned mages can detect such slight disturbances. Ordinary mages lack such ability. Even though it’s a Magic World in the Otherworld, due to the hierarchy of magic, true high-rank Mages are sparse; thus, the Advance Team need not worry about encountering them.
Half a month later, under constant pressure from headquarters, the group finally prepared to leave. Ever since Nightingale and Li Si left, the entire responsibility of the base fell onto Wang Xu, who was utterly driven to his wits’ end. He had no choice but to send twelve magic messengers to urge for an immediate return of the airboat.
On the day of departure, Nina, as a representative of Ilanadale, came to bid farewell. Her main purpose was to send off her son.
Luoya, dressed in an Elven dress, stood quietly behind her mother like a gentle girl. Although Li Si originally planned to take her back to headquarters, Luo’er strongly disagreed. After all, the Advance Team is regularly dispatched, leaving little time to stay at the base, and Luoya would be alone there.
The thought of letting her return to Earth was deemed unimaginable. Who knows if headquarters would have ideas about Luoya. After all, like him, she is also a half-blood Elf. In the decades of Origin Project, there are less than fifty half-blood Elves. Those scientists would naturally want to figure out how did Luo Chuan and Nina manage to give birth to two in one shot.
After some polite exchanges, Li Si was the first to board the airboat. Luo’er walked to Nina. Nina began to adjust his clothes, with a motherly tenderness in her eyes.
"Mom, I’m leaving..." Luo’er bit his lip, speaking with some reluctance.
"Go ahead, a true man must strive for advancement!" Nina responded with a smile.
"Well, I’ll come back to see you." Luo’er said.
"I know..." As Nina adjusted the uniform on Luo’er, her eyes softened," I’m sorry about the things that happened, because of your father..."
"No, I don’t blame you. Actually, I shouldn’t have said that, I should have allowed you more time to adjust." Luo’er lowered his head as he spoke.
"No," Nina shook her head, forcing a smile," I’ve come around. Though Luo Chuan is gone, I still have you two. That’s enough to keep me going."
Speaking, her eyes suddenly reddened, saying with a sob, "Actually, I guessed this would happen from the start, but, but I just didn’t want to accept it. He has been here so many years. How could he possibly be unscathed..."
Luo’er didn’t know what to say, so he kept silent. Seeing the sobbing expression on his mother’s face, his eyes also reddened inevitably.
"Mother, don’t shed tears at this time," Luo Ya stepped forward and said softly.
"Sor, sorry, it’s my fault." Nina wiped her tears and turned away.
Luo Ya had a maid took Nina aside, and then she walked up to Luo’er. The sibling reunion made them both unsure of what to say, creating a moment of silence.
"You stay here and keep our mother company, make up for the part I can’t." Luo’er said, his face brightening with a smile.
"I understand," Luo Ya lowered her head and said softly, "You must take care and don’t kneel for girls anymore. It’s really not a good look."
I..." Luo’er hesitated, then finally figured out how to respond to Luo Ya, he said, "I’m not like this for every girl. I do it because you’re my sister."
After hearing these words, Luo Ya looked up at him, then lowered her head and mumbled, "Only now you know how to answer, such a hindsight guy."
She twisted her fingers nervously, hesitated for a long time before finally making up her mind, then placed her hand on Luo’er’s chest and asked with an apologetic expression, "Does your injury still hurt?"
"It doesn’t hurt anymore." Luo’er shook his head.
"I’m sor...sorry, because of me..." Luo Ya bit her lip and finally apologized to Luo’er.
"It’s okay, I forgave you, I forgave you long ago." Luo’er shook his head, generously said.
"Can’t you wait for me to finish speaking?" Luo Ya frowned, looking displeased.
"Oh, just go ahead." Luo’er hesitated for a moment, then quickly responded.
"Never mind, it’s so disappointing!" Luo Ya removed her hand from his chest and grumbled with her head lowered.
"Eh..." Luo’er seemed to want to say something but stopped.
"Be careful on your own, and next time you run into a girl like me don’t be soft-hearted, got it!" Luo Ya emphasized.
"Oh, oh!" Luo’er nodded hesitantly.
"Oh, what, you flirt!" Luo Ya glared at him, her brows furrowed.
"I’m not fickle." Luo’er said innocently.
"Still denying it, that Fula something, she must be around you right!" Luo Ya said.
"Yah, how do you know I’m here when I didn’t even materialize?" At that moment, Fulajie’er suddenly appeared out of nowhere beside them, her eyes wide as she questioned her.
"Who told you to eavesdrop on our conversation." Luo Ya said, displeased.
"It’s not like it’s a secret, you’re such a penny-pincher!" Fulajie’er pouted.
