Otherworld Advance Team -
Chapter 548 - 541: Full Evacuation
Chapter 548: Chapter 541: Full Evacuation
"Sister, it’s actually quite nice this way too. As long as I can be with you, I don’t mind what I become," Fulajie’er playfully floated in the air, smiling as she comforted Nightingale.
"I will definitely find a way to resurrect you. I promise you," Nightingale said, biting her lip and holding the container close to her chest.
"Thank you, big sis!" Fulajie’er showed a knowing smile, floating in front of Nightingale.
Nightingale held the container in silence for a while, then suddenly raised her head. Her eyes sharpened: "Tangmo Baiyue, the target has been resurrected. Prepare for the next mission. Baiyue, record all the runes, then destroy the instruments. Tangmo, take your team to the Soul Ascension lab to put the explosives in place now!"
"Yes!" Hearing Nightingale’s command, both girls snapped to attention and split up to take action.
"Wait a minute, if you’re going to destroy these instruments, didn’t you promise to keep some for me..." Gude hurried forward to try and stop their actions. But as he took a step forward, Baiyue sneak attacked him from behind, knocking him unconscious.
"Get someone to take him to the airboat!" Nightingale said coldly as she looked down at Gude.
Destroying these instruments is a difficult decision for Nightingale as well, as she is not certain whether the Earthlings have the ability to resurrect Fulajie’er. If she destroyed all of these instruments, and the Earthlings found they were unable to resurrect her, Fulajie’er might be doomed to exist in her current form.
But she is fully aware that the Ancient States relied on these instruments from the Ancestors to come up with such a bold plan. As long as these instruments were destroyed, their plans would be thwarted. Otherwise, even if they prevented the Ancient States’ apotheosis now, they would still have the conditions to restart the plan in the future.
"You have ten minutes to complete the recording and destruction, and then meet up at the exit!" Nightingale declared loudly.
As I mentioned before, Nightingale is from the Otherworld, but her seniority at the frontline headquarters surpasses anyone else, so to some extent, she is also the Chief of the Advance Team.
After giving her orders, Nightingale helped Baiyue remove all the Rune Modules and then photographed and recorded them. They obviously wouldn’t clumsily carry them all the way back, recording the Rune patterns would be enough. Otherwise, they’d have to deal with hundreds of pounds of equipment.
Once the recording was done, they began to place the explosives. The battle outside was still going on, though less intensely, gunfire could still be heard. Even in the landing zone, mercenaries were engaged in combat with the advancing Theron.
The mercenaries were well-equipped, and had two infantry cannons on their position, pinning down Theron, who couldn’t lift their heads. Theron, used to guerilla warfare against the Judgement Legion, weren’t accustomed to this kind of siege warfare. Unless they managed to summon the army of the Ancient States, they stood almost no chance.
However, before the battle had begun the main forces of the Ancient States had been drawn away from the area due to the harassment of the Judgement Legion. By the time they’d realized what was happening, they were almost a day’s travel distant from the base. Considering the speed of the airboats, the Advance Team could entirely evacuate the base before the Ancient States’ army could arrive.
With two consecutive explosions, the research area was engulfed in flames. Once Luo’er had confirmed that Nightingale and others had completed their tasks, he quickly gave the order to retreat. He fired three signal flares into the night sky, urging all units to disengage from the fight and gather at the landing zone.
Several hours had passed since the surprise attack had begun and it was no longer pitch dark outside. In about two hours, the sun would rise from the horizon.
The three men, leading their own squads, gradually retreated from the base through the gap and eventually arrived at the entrenched landing zone.
"Luo’er!" Seeing Luo’er return safely, Tangmo was thrilled and rushed to meet him.
"Did it succeed with Fulajie’er?" Luo’er asked as he approached.
"Uh..." Everyone wasn’t sure how to respond to him.
"Luo’er, I’m here!" Suddenly, Fulajie’er appeared in the air, as if popping out from a crack in space, and mischievously sat down on Nightingale’s shoulder.
"I’m so relieved you’re okay!" Seeing Fulajie’er, Luo’er finally let his guard down.
"Hmm..." But for some reason, Nightingale, Tangmo and the others couldn’t help but sigh deeply in his presence.
"What is it, did I say something wrong?" Luo’er asked in bewilderment.
"It’s nothing, we’ll talk about it later!" Tangmo waved his hand and struggled to smile.
As the troop numbers dwindled, there were increasingly more mercenaries on the battlefield, dutifully throwing themselves into the battle. The sudden onslaught of fire power had the assaulting Theron forces unable to lift their heads, unable to threaten the transport planes moving personnel and supplies.
Luo’er and his group boarded the nearest transport plane and arrived at the airship hovering in the high skies. After their departure, the mercenaries on the ground would withdraw in stages until fully retreating. Due to lack of firepower, only one transport plane was currently moving personnel, while the other was continuously loading ammunition to provide aerial support to the ground.
With the help of air support, the stream of firepower from the mercenaries on the ground was unbroken, keeping the Theron forces from mounting an attack from the very start.
After the last batch of mercenaries were transported to the airship, it began to ascend steadily and activated four steam turbine engines. After minor navigational adjustments, the airship, accompanied by two transport planes, headed toward the Ilanadale border.
During the flight, the High-peak people displayed impressive flying skills, landing the transport planes one after the other onto the swiftly flying airship, before eventually being brought into the hangar. The airship would head to the lake from before, pick up the knights of the Judgement Legion, and head straight back to Divine Wood Down.
In this operation, only Hu Daoke from the Advance Team was seriously injured with a fractured arm, while the others got off with minor injuries. The casualties among the mercenaries were a bit grim, with about twenty injured. But upon closer consideration, only a few were fatalities, the rest were minor injuries, so overall it was still within acceptable range.
During the mercenaries’ retreat, a lot of supplies had to be left behind and were destroyed on-site, including the two infantry cannons. However, the Headquarters had promised to reimburse them for their weapon consumption cost, so there were no complaints from these men.
This operation not only obliterated the Ancient States’ God-making base but also captured a group of experienced researchers. Luo’er lived up to his promise and rescued all the girls who were used as test subjects. Now, the whole ship was filled with the lively chatter of these girls.
Even when they were ghosts, they were full of vigor, and after being resurrected, they were even more boisterous. They practically filled the ship with their voices, leaving Li Si no choice but to clear a warehouse to serve as their temporary room.
Because of Luo’er’s promise, these girls saw Luo’er as their lifesaver, their Prince Charming. As a result, Tangmo and Baiyue dare not let Luo’er see the girls, fearing they would completely overwhelm him.
Fortunately, these girls had a weakness. They were all relatively young, averaging about seventeen or eighteen years old. Hence, they were somewhat in awe of Nightingale, who was already approaching her fortieth birthday. Thanks to her, these little girls didn’t create too much of a fuss.
But there were not many supplies left on the airship and now many more people had squeezed in, not to mention the knights who would soon board. The airship must return to Divine Wood Down for supplies. Otherwise, half-way through the journey, everyone on board would starve.
The most troublesome thing for Li Si now were these young girls. The ship was full of men, especially the knights of the Judgement Legion, who might bully these girls. Although he promised to rescue them, if they were abused by these men, Li Si would feel guilt-ridden. So he thought for a moment, and planned to ask them one by one when they arrived at the lake. Those who wanted to go home would be given travel expenses to return to the Ancient States. As for the others, he would figure out a way to bring them back to Yazhi City.
