Otherworld Advance Team -
Chapter 541 - 534: Ancestors’ Procedure
Chapter 541: Chapter 534: Ancestors’ Procedure
"Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh...." A barrage of rockets, trailing long flares, targeted the giant, with the explosive power of their warheads enough to shred the giant’s body, made of magic crystals.
About ten rockets were launched in all, with only three missing their mark. The rest hit the giant squarely, blasting it full of holes, top to bottom.
As the giant roared, vibrating with magical power, it desperately absorbed nearby magic crystals to replenish its body, focusing mostly on its hands and feet. As for the gaping holes in its body, it seemed not to care, acknowledging that even a thorough penetration wouldn’t kill it, being a spiritual entity.
The Advance Team, still roaming within the base, had virtually wiped out most of the guard force. Even the occasional straggler was quickly found and eliminated. Despite the looming threat the giant posed, it did not mean they had formed an alliance with Theron.
Constantly harassed, the giant finally lost patience, roaring and launching an attack on the scattered team members. Luo’er noticed the giant seemed unable to control the strength of its magic. Hence, it would often release high-level magic spells, which proved deadly considering it couldn’t absorb atmospheric magic.
To avoid this situation, the giant chose the safest method- close combat. Using its fists, forged out of magic crystals, it aimed to pulverize the pesky enemies.
"Good, it’s distracted by us. Everyone, get moving and try to lure it away from the research area," Luo’er ordered loudly.
Meanwhile, Tangmo and Baiyue, each leading a mercenary squad, were escorting Nightingale and Gude towards the research area. The majority of the area had already been conquered, except for the periphery of the Body Construction Room, where resistance held out.
The group first arrived at the Soul Ascension room, where under the mercenaries’ protection, Gude and Nightingale began performing complex operations on a console. Tangmo and Baiyue noticed Gude placed the container holding Fulajie’er’s soul into an interface on the machine. Surprisingly enough, it fit without any hindrance, as if the container was a part of the device itself.
Immediately after, Gude began to adjust parameters and opened the energy supply area. Placing his hand flat on the control panel, he started muttering some incantations. Guided by magic in the atmosphere, magic crystal energy started flowing into the machine. Dense and complicated runes on the machine began glowing.
Unlike Luo’er who didn’t understand a thing, Tangmo instinctively began deciphering the machine’s runes. These were simple runes for transporting magic and held no significant value. The ones that truly mattered were near the hibernation-type chamber. Baiyue took the opportunity to play her part, taking out a mechanical camera to photograph and record the rune patterns.
As the runes lit up, the central cylindrical crystal began to glow, and a similar light cluster emerged within it.
"Sister..."
Hearing Fulajie’er’s astonishment, Nightingale immediately turned her head and asked Gude, "What happened? What’s wrong with Fulajie’er?"
"She’s currently inside that crystal, don’t get distracted. Focus on the guiding process." Gude glanced at the crystal and calmly replied.
Nightingale frowned but bent her head down and continued her operation. The crystal captured Fulajie’er’s soul and concentrated it in the center, undergoing adjustment and compression. The guided soul then flowed to the interface of the recently inserted container through the crystal conduit.
After confirming that there were no more souls inside the crystal, Gude stopped his operation and removed the container from the interface. Upon opening the cover, everyone saw that the crystal inside was even brighter, with illuminated runes scattered all over it.
"Fula!" Stopping her work, Nightingale rushed over and snatched the container, clutching it to her cheek, hoping that her body heat might offer some comfort.
"The process of our ancestors becoming gods first involved leaving their bodies and then entering this container," Gude explained to Tangmo and others. "Because Derexia hid those containers, we had no choice but to connect them to the Body Construction Room. But these two devices were designed to be standalone. Once connected, they have to be activated simultaneously. While one ascends, the other guides the soul into the new body!"
"So that’s why you’ve been studying ways to reduce the risk during fusion?" Tangmo asked.
"Exactly," Gude nodded and continued. "Connecting the two devices with our current technology has introduced many flaws. This time we were barely able to help Kuya enter a new body. But it was more likely a fluke--I doubt we’d be so lucky next time."
"So you’re saying, there’s a certain failure rate in making Fulajie’er a god?" Tangmo asked with a furrowed brow.
"No, no, no, Fulajie’er follows the process of our Ancestors, storing souls in a container and then using body building instruments to construct her body. She doesn’t need our construction tube, so I think the failure rate could be greatly reduced." Gude said, waving his hands.
"Then we must act fast, resolve it before that guy totally weans and resurrect Fulajie’er!" Tangmo rarely displayed the same maturity as Luo’er at this moment.
"I ask you," Nightingale stared at Gude, and coldly asked, "Without making Fulajie’er a god, would she be forever asleep in this box?"
"Yes!" Gude earnestly nodded.
Upon hearing this, Nightingale immediately lowered her head and closed her eyes. She then raised her head with a steadfast look, "Then let’s act and make Fulajie’er a god!"
Under the lead of Tangmo and Baiyue, the group slowly proceeded along the corridor towards the Body Construction Room. The instruments’ positions were not too far from one another. According to Gude, they could not deal with the issue of soul ascension, so they chose to simply use tubes to connect the ascension instrument and body construction. The ascended soul would then directly flow through the tube and unite with the body, hence the distance between them was not too far.
The group just rounded a corner and heard Baiyue yell out a danger warning, after which she pulled Tangmo behind the corner. Soon after, a dense barrage of bullets flew towards them. If they had not dodged in time, they would have been riddled with holes instantly.
"You scared me to death, thank you, Yue’er!" Tangmo, clutching her heart, said with a lingering fear.
"Really, you’ve been fighting for so many years and you’re still careless." Instead of comforting her, Baiyue complained with frowned eyebrows.
"I’m sorry!" Tangmo said, pinching her arm remorsefully.
Baiyue ignored her complaint, reached the corner, and extended a small mirror she carried with her to observe the situation on the corridor.
"The door is blocked, the opponents have set up a sandbag cover and might have mounted machine guns." Baiyue reported coldly.
"Let me give it a shot!" Tangmo, then rolling out of the corner, immediately raised her magic wand and began chanting spells.
"Ratatatatata!" Bullets poured from the opposite side, striking the unfolded barrier and ricocheting back with a ringing sound. It was a harrowing scene.
Bullets were bouncing off everywhere in the corridor. Fortunately, Tangmo did not directly display her barrier in front of everyone. Because from their combat experience, ricocheting bullets could also damage allies.
After firing for a while, Tangmo swiftly moved back to the corner. Not that she couldn’t withstand the bullet attack, but she had already thought of a plan of action.
"The enemies have set up a cover and there are two machine gun positions. It’s advisable to use assault weapons." Tangmo proposed after she returned.
The Advance Team was always engaged in reconnaissance, typically avoiding overly strong enemies whenever possible. Now that they had the courage to launch an attack, it was evident they were prepared.
It should be known that although the mercenaries hired by the headquarters were nominally mercenaries, their organizational structure was very similar to Earth’s army set-up. However, the five men squad represented by Tangmo split from an established firepower platoon, hence, they had the capability to attack this impregnable fortress.
