Otherworld Advance Team -
Chapter 531 - 524: Ghost Communication Device
Chapter 531: Chapter 524: Ghost Communication Device
Luo’er and his companion took the entire night and didn’t return until noon the next day. He looked exhausted, but there was a spark in his eyes.
He told Cheng Ziang that the ghosts had agreed to their plan, and they had spent the entire night assembling these ghosts, teaching them some basic combat communication terms, as well as relevant disciplinary issues.
He wasn’t sure how much they could grasp, but for Luo’er, this was their limit. The time of the Advance Team was extremely precious. The sooner they could seize the Creating God Plan base, the sooner they could retreat.
Luo’er always felt that if headquarters could agree to the Church Court’s requirements and arrange some Temple Knights to come to the Ancient States, that would be ideal. These people were tough individuals, ideal for storming operations. With the Rune Armor, these people were like armored vehicles, lacking only long-range capabilities. To Theron, who lacked heavy weapons and armor-piercing weapons, these people were far more threatening than the mercenaries sent by the headquarters.
However, it is already impossible to increase their forces now. Because even if they depart now, these knights would take at least a month to arrive in the Ancient States. By then, the god created by the Ancient States people would likely have already ascended.
After receiving the oral promise from the ghosts, Luo’er did not hesitate, and immediately ordered the group to prepare. They took the transport plane that arrived in the evening, and flew back to the location of the airboat.
The transport plane arrived at the airboat in the dead of night, and the group immediately began to integrate the intelligence gathered. Combined with aerial photos, the layout of the Theron’s Deity Creation Project base was gradually becoming clear to them.
The materials used to construct the Project base are complex but mainly consist of reinforced concrete, one of the many resources Earth exported to the Otherworld after the agreement of peace between the two worlds. Besides reinforced concrete, they used a lot of bluestone blocks, cement as the binder, mainly for paving roads and building the base, and then the wooden structures for lookout towers and some dormitory structures.
According to the existing intelligence, the base could accommodate nearly 2,000 people for an extended period, with about 500 people working on the core of the plan, another 1,000 in charge of the day-to-day maintenance of the base, and assisting the other 500. The remaining people were Theron’s elite troops, whose equipment was in no way inferior to the armies of some developing countries on Earth.
Based on the narrative provided by the ghosts, Nightingale sketched out the researchers involved in the project. Approximately twenty individuals were core personnel, the rest were irrelevant, and could be killed indiscriminately.
A variety of photos and notes were pinned to the display board in their office. Luo’er pinned a drawn blueprint to the board, then told everyone, "Pay attention to the people wearing these clothes. They’re the core personnel. We need to capture them alive. We do not shoot them. Remember, after entering the base, besides these people, test subjects, and our own, anyone who is a confirmed obstacle to the offensive can be killed."
Nightingale pinned a portrait to the board, then told everyone, "Take a good look at this man, his name is Kuya, and he’s my enemy. If you see him, please break his legs and deliver him to me. Thank you in advance."
"Uh..." stuttered Luo’er, wanting to say something but hesitating.
"Of course, if you can’t bring him back, execute him on the spot. We don’t need him." Nightingale said coldly.
"Alright, everyone, look at the map. This is the layout of the Creating God base. I’m going to explain our objectives. Our goals are to sabotage the plan, kill or capture the researchers involved, and destroy the machines. Therefore, the experimental area in the center of the base is our primary target. However, considering the significant number of Theron, we first need to destroy their weapons storage, and ideally, we blow it up."
"Additionally, we need some people to protect this area located in the lower left corner of the map. The ghosts we are communicating with have their bodies stored in this area. We need people to protect them."
"Finally, we need people to destroy the entrance and exit gates. The Creating God base has two entrances and exits in total, both pointed in the same direction. We need to destroy them to ensure that Theron from the outside can’t come in for reinforcement promptly."
"Also, the evacuation plan..."
They talked until dawn. It had been quite some time since Luo’er arrived in the Otherworld, but this was the first time he planned to command such a large-scale battle. They were still significantly outnumbered. Thus, for him, it was indeed quite a big challenge.
According to his plan, the advance team of five members would spread out. Each member would be accompanied by a ghost to assist in combat and to manage alerts and communication. Each person would lead a squad of five mercenaries, which would conveniently cover all thirty mercenaries under their command.
And as for the remaining twenty people, Luo’er planned to deploy them to the evacuation area to establish a defensive line. They would both support the troops and prepare to fend off Theron’s counterattack.
Since they only had two transport planes and also needed to evacuate the researchers and the rescued girls, they might have to withstand Theron’s attacks for quite a long time, turning the engagement into a positional war.
Regarding the Judgement Legion, Luo’er couldn’t think of anything else for them to do except distract Theron. Despite their sturdy armor, these men were only trained for close combat. Their defensive ability was strong, but their offensive power was even weaker than that of the mercenaries.
They might have to dig in and fight a defensive war this time, especially if the Ancient States army gets involved. They must give it their all. If it really gets to be too much, they would only have the option of sending in the airboat to rescue everyone.
To reinforce the advance team in time, Li Si decided, with the headquarters’ approval, to deploy the airboat at the beginning of the fight. It would hover overhead, ready to transport soldiers and personnel as needed. It would also directly engage in the battle if necessary.
In response to Luo’er’s plan, Nightingale worked through the night to design and engrave a rune device. The device was worn on the wrist, with the magic crystal disseminating magical power into the air through the rune. This solution was designed to mitigate the issues caused by insufficiency of magical power in some areas, which prevented the ghosts from getting close.
Since ghosts were participating and accompanying the troops in battle, they obviously could not be hampered by a lack of magical power. Otherwise, if the troops lost contact with the ghost, they would immediately lose their reconnaissance and communication capabilities.
In the meantime, Tangmo and Baiyue had made interim progress in deciphering part of the Deity Creation Project’s rune components. They had put so much effort into deciphering these runes out of fear that once Theron did complete the project and create a "Deity" they would lose all control.
Nightingale’s plan worked like this: the "Deity," once created, would need to continually rely on the device for energy, just like a child needs to stay connected with the mother through the umbilical cord. They could seize this period to reverse-engineer the device, forcing the "Deity’s" body to collapse, thereby destroying the "Deity" that Theron had created.
The main components of the "Deity’s" body were magical components. Reverse-engineering these magical components would allow them to scatter the magical components from the body before it fully separates and becomes self-sustaining. Otherwise, once the body becomes self-sustaining and is wholly powered by atmospheric magic, it would be impossible to reverse.
Luo’er once asked Nightingale if she could extract his soul from his body so that he could infiltrate the base as a ghost. However, Nightingale dismissed the idea, saying that soul-extraction equipment was not of their era, but of the Ancestors’ magic and technology.
So, in fact, both Nightingale and her father spent their entire lives researching how to use the Ancestors’ technology, rather than how to create soul-extraction methods. Given the current level of technology in the Ancient States, and indeed the whole Otherworld, it was impossible for them to manufacture equipment that even Earthlings could not comprehend.
The Ancestors left a considerable amount of legacy to the Otherworld. Besides the famous Otherworld Gate, the one that impacted Luo’er the most was probably the magic-restricting device in the Sacred Heart Magic Academy.
