Chapter 523: Chapter 516: Aerial Reconnaissance
After more than two hours of flight, the transport plane finally gradually approached the airspace above God Creation Base. Unlike before, they were flying during the day this time.
The co-pilot, who was a communications officer, calculated the time to arrive at the base, and sent signals to the neighboring aircraft for communication from time to time. When they were less than ten kilometers away from the base, the pilot shut down the propeller engine under the instruction of the communications officer. The interior of the entire aircraft cabin quieted down instantly, only the howling wind outside the cabin could be heard.
Then, the pilot began adjusting the output power of the anti-gravity engine, allowing the transport plane to descend to reconnaissance height, meanwhile, shouting loudly at the scout in the back of the cabin. However, since they were all speaking in Dwarven language, almost no one other than the Nightingale could understand what they were shouting.
Hearing the pilot’s shout, the dwarven scout sprung up from the ground, then squatted down in front of the transparent glass cover, holding the camera ready for reconnaissance photography.
Actually, Luoer always felt that if they removed the glass cover or opened the cabin door to take pictures, the effect would be much better. However, for fear that humans or the camera might fall, he did not raise any objections.
Looking at the anxious High-peak people, Luoer got up from his seat, then slowly staggered to the front seat. Through the windshield of the cockpit, he saw the God Creation Base located on the distant ground.
Even from the air, this God Creation Base was not very noticeable. Although you could clearly see the outline of the base’s walls, since this base had existed for decades, the interior of the base was already covered with vegetation, so it was not certainly recognizable even from the air.
At this time, the Dwarven communications officer was still calculating the flight direction based on the base’s layout and orientation. They hoped to do it in one go, so they were always looking for the optimal flight path.
With the communication between the two transport planes, the pilot began to adjust the course, slowly approaching the distant God Creation Base.
This model of transport plane is streamlined, so even if the propeller propulsion engine is turned off, it can glide a considerable distance by inertia.
Also, because it is controlled by an anti-gravity engine, the transport plane does not need to worry about falling at all. Even if it stops above the base, it can simply ascend in flight and then fly away using the propellers. Besides, the flying height of this model of transport plane is generally over four thousand meters, so there is no need to worry about exposure at all.
The two transport planes passed over the base like ghosts, and Luoer also took the opportunity to go to the rear cabin to observe the base below. The dwarven scout was furiously taking pictures; because every shot required adjusting the film, he almost broke his fingers. The camera made snapping noises, which drew more attention than the wind outside the cabin.
At this time, it was not yet ten in the morning, the sky was very clear, with not a cloud to be seen. However, as the sun was not yet overhead, it did not cast the shadow of the transport plane onto the base below, which could have drawn the attention of those people.
Luoer noticed that the people below were running around like small ants, but they did not seem to be fearing the passage of the transport plane. If he didn’t guess wrong, the Judgement Legion’s restraining action should’ve worked, and these people were ready to go out and chase the Judgement Legion.
The base seemed quite large, but in front of the high-speed flying transport plane, the window of time that the dwarven scout had to take photographs was too short. He soon lost his target and had to reluctantly stop taking pictures.
After passing over the base, the transport plane did not immediately turn on the propeller propulsion engine, but continued to glide forward. About ten kilometers after leaving the base, one of the transport planes started climbing, while the other carrying everyone began to slowly descend, preparing to drop off the group.
This area was all plains and grasslands, although the terrain was flat and suitable for landing, it was also highly exposed, so the group only had less than ten seconds to land. Ten seconds later the transport plane would continue to climb. After the two planes met, they would fly back to the airboat.
The transport plane descended rapidly, getting closer and closer to the ground, and because the pilot had activated the reverse thrust plates of the aircraft, the glide speed of the transport plane was gradually slowing down, too.
At this time, the transport plane was less than half a meter above the ground, and its speed had also dropped to a walking pace. Under the loud command of the dwarven pilot, the scout came to the side of the cabin door, carrying the camera, forcefully pushed open the slide door, and gestured for everyone to disembark.
Luoer was the first to jump off the transport plane, then he half-kneeled on the ground, holding his gun on guard. Following him were Hu Daoke and Cheng Ziang, Luoya and Nightingale hesitated for a moment then also jumped down.
Once everyone had landed, the transport plane immediately rose vertically from its position. Cheng Ziang, who had excellent eyesight, looked upwards following the ascension of the transport plane and could even see another transport plane circling and slowing down in the high sky. However, due to the camouflage paint on the bottom of the transport planes, the circling plane was barely visible without careful observation.
After landing, Luo’er took out a map and discussed briefly with Cheng Ziang. Afterward, he approached Nightingale and said, "Sister Nightingale, based on our aerial observations, the Weird Talk Forest is to the west of here. If you are worried, we can first head over to Nailin Town and then make our way back to the Weird Talk Forest."
"There’s no need, I trust you..." Before Nightingale could finish her sentence, her face suddenly turned pale, and she started coughing violently. Clearly, she wasn’t particularly well adapted to flying on a transport plane, and it looked like she was suffering from air sickness.
Seeing her condition, Luo’er couldn’t help but look over at Luoya. Indeed, the girl was clutching Cheng Ziang’s arm, looking as if she was about to vomit but couldn’t, and her face was visibly distressed.
"Uh..." In response to the situation, Luo’er didn’t know what to say. He signaled Cheng Ziang to support Luoya while he walked over to Nightingale and asked with concern, "Sister Nightingale, do you need any help?"
Nightingale managed a weak smile at Luo’er’s question, and without any hesitation, she grabbed Luo’er’s arm, smiled and said, "Thank you!"
"Er, no, you’re welcome..." Seeing her bold move, Luo’er felt a bit embarrassed.
It seemed that Nightingale had always had a high regard for Luo’er from the very beginning and didn’t show any hesitation like most people would. Luo’er however, never understood why. But according to Cheng Ziang’s behind-the-scenes gossip, Luo’er possessed a maternal instinct inherited from his mother that gave girls a sense of security and the impression that they could rely on him for a lifetime, an impression that was easily deduced from his appearance.
This was likely why, whether it was Tangmo or Shangguan Jiu, both had fallen for Luo’er at first sight. As for Baiyue, she and Luo’er had been childhood sweethearts, though they later parted ways.
"Let’s...let’s go..." Supporting Nightingale, Luo’er stammered.
Nightingale wasn’t really in love with Luo’er; she simply enjoyed this sense of security he brought her. Therefore, she never displayed such feelings in public. But once they arrived at a unfamiliar place, she began to seek this feeling of security to soothe her anxiety in a strange environment.
In the morning, the group began to head towards the distant forest, where the God Manufacturing Base was located. The deeper they went, the more they had to worry about Theron’s ambush.
Upon reaching the edge of the forest, Cheng Ziang let go of Luoya and let her walk by herself. Not because he despised Luoya but because, being a reconnaissance soldier, he needed to provide his team with a proper view and look out for potential sentries and hidden outposts.
If it weren’t for Cheng Ziang scouting ahead last time, they would probably have been ambushed by those hidden sentinels.
Because of the need to be extremely cautious, the group’s progress was slow. It wasn’t until around three in the afternoon that they had made it deep into the forest. Pushing through the brush in front of them, they finally saw a wooden sign not too far away. It was marked with large Tasta letters that read "Weird Talk Forest".
"We’re here. Weird Talk Forest is just ahead, but we still need to proceed with caution. Ghosts are rare during the day, so the forest might still have hidden sentinels," Luo’er said softly to the group after seeing the wooden sign.
"Let’s go, we need to get in there as soon as possible!" Nightingale said somewhat impatiently.
"Understood," Luo’er nodded and then turned to Cheng Ziang and commanded, "Ziang, lead the way."
"Roger that!" Cheng Ziang nodded, drew a long knife from the ground, and slowly started making his way forward. While advancing through the forest, his knife served not only for defense but also for clearing a path through the dense growth.
