Chapter 503: Chapter 496: The Embarrassed Judgement Legion
"Oh man, how long have we known each other now?" With one can of beer down, Li Si’s face started to flush.
The alcohol on the airboat was originally prepared for the hired soldiers and the High-peak people’s air service, but since it’s all from the Headquarters’ supplies, they didn’t feel guilty taking it.
"Speaking of which, Brother Li, didn’t you come to the Otherworld with us?" Hu Daoke patted him on the shoulder, turned to Cheng Ziang and asked.
"Nope, he didn’t. He was transferred to the frontline headquarters later." Cheng Ziang shook his head and replied.
"Anyways, let’s toast to our boss finding his mom, something he has always been talking about." Hu Daoke lifted his can and proposed.
"Thank you!" Luo’er smiled and clinked his glass with him.
"Your sister is really something, you know. She seems to have a completely different personality from you." Li Si commented, looking at him.
"Ugh, don’t get me started, she is driving me nuts," Luo’er shook his head and complained, "I have no idea what’s going on in her head. She never listens to me and always tries to pick a fight with me."
"Luoya has always lived freely without much discipline, so it’s fairly normal that she doesn’t listen to you." Cheng Ziang weighed in.
"But what if something happens and she doesn’t listen to me?" Luo’er shook his head, worried.
"Luo’er, Luoya doesn’t like to be confined. Your current way of dealing with her will only backfire. I sense her hostility towards you could be out of guilt. If you keep doing this, things are only going to get worse." Cheng Ziang suggested.
"I’ve been wondering," Luo’er frowned, turned his head and asked, "how do you understand her so well? I’ve got no idea what’s inside her mind, but you seem to know it all."
"Because Luoya is only willing to talk to me now." Cheng Ziang shrugged, wearing an innocent expression.
"Why is she only willing to talk to you? Even I, her own brother, can’t manage her." Luo’er squinted at him in suspicion.
"Don’t get me wrong, I’m just trying to make sure you two can get along." Cheng Ziang felt a chill down his spine under Luo’er’s stare, hurriedly waved his hands and explained.
Luo’er gave him a suspicious look, sighed, and went on, "To be honest, after I found out she was my sister, all my resentment towards her just vanished. I’ve always wanted to have a heart-to-heart with her, but she always keeps me at arm’s length. No matter how hard I try, I can’t seem to reach her."
Cheng Ziang wasn’t surprised by Luo’er’s words. He knew Luo’er very well; the guy held those close to him in high regards. Luo’er chose to forgive Tangmo’s harm even at the expense of his own wellbeing, proving his attitude towards relationships.
"You should try a different approach and analyze the situation specifically. Don’t make the mistake of being dogmatic. Just like how your previous methods may have worked with Moumou or Yue’er, can you apply the same to Melia? If Luoya doesn’t like being controlled, why not try a different way. Anyway, you should first get closer to her before making a decision." Cheng Ziang advised.
"Huh, so are Luo’er and Melia a thing?" In the middle of their conversation, Li Si, who had been asleep on the table, suddenly lifted his head, squinted through his drowsy eyes and asked loudly.
"Um," the two exchanged a guilty look, Cheng Ziang quickly tried to play it off lightly, "Ah, we weren’t talking. Did you have too much to drink?"
"You guys were not talking?" Li Si looked at the two of them with wide eyes, thought confusedly for a while, and then collapsed onto the table.
"Don’t mention Melia again, you can’t wait for the whole world to know about us, right?" Luo’er said in a lowered voice, frowning.
"It’s my fault, all my fault. But you should think about what I said, I don’t want to see your relationship with your sister always on edge like this." Cheng Ziang instinctively leaned on the table and replied quietly.
"We’ll see." Luo’er thought for a moment, sighed, and then said.
The coming days were much calmer. After the airboat entered the stratosphere, it maintained this altitude and headed towards the predetermined location. In the meantime, everyone was busy with their work.
Tangmo and Baiyue, in particular, were tasked with analysing and calculating the blueprints and information of the Creating God Plan. The amount of work made them wish they had ten brains. If they had a computer in front of them now, all their problems could be easily solved.
As mentioned before, the formation and engraving of runes are somewhat similar to programming. However, one thing that makes runes more difficult than programming is that they almost don’t have commentaries, so Tangmo had to step by step perform logical operations on each rune, calculating the effect of magic flowing through this path.
Baiyue was not as good as Tangmo in decoding and calculating the runes. Her main role was to calculate once Tangmo had converted the runes into data. The others in the Advance Team couldn’t help much and had to wait.
Fortunately, they were not fighting alone this time. They had the hidden powerhouse, Nightingale, to help. Tangmo could never have imagined that such a powerful character was hidden inside the stronghold. Nightingale’s understanding of runes was slightly inferior to Tangmo’s, but she was better at practicality. Moreover, unlike Tangmo, Nightingale was skilled in various areas and was only slightly less adept at computation than Baiyue.
Since Nightingale had already been researching it, Tangmo could take over the research data she had accumulated, and there was no need to start from scratch.
The Deity Creation Project was the second large-scale magic rune project they had encountered, the first being the Otherworld Gate restart project in Lipei. These projects show that even in the Otherworld, certain rules must be followed and not simply imagined.
They had always felt that the magic technology of the Otherworld was very similar to Earth’s science and technology, both of which are explorations of the laws of the material world. In name, the Creating God Plan was about creating gods but analysing from the perspective of Earth’s logic, it was just using some cutting-edge technology to create a magical weapon similar to artificial intelligence for the Otherworld people.
The Ancient States people used a large number of rune combinations to convert magic into the forms and amounts they needed, and eventually stacked these things together, forming a composite body entirely composed of different magic. And based on this, they connected consciousness for control, thus completing the production of the magical weapon.
Previously, Headquarters underestimated the Ancient States’ Creating God Plan. It was only when the Church Court handed them the blueprint of the plan that they realised the seriousness of the issue. This time, Headquarters decided to strike out personally, partly to make the Church Court owe them a favour, and partly to extinguish the threat of Ancient States.
Now that Headquarters had set up a base in Ilanadale, they had to turn their attention to the south. If the Ancient States suddenly invaded other countries at this time, the first casualty would undoubtedly be Ilanadale.
The airboat continued to follow the stratosphere to the predetermined location and after five days of flying, finally arrived at the predetermined location. It was still within the borders of Ilanadale, by a lake deep in the primeval forest, with a flat road connecting to the border between the two countries. Ilanadale’s patrol teams passed by from time to time.
Dozens of tents had already been set up by the lake by then, and wisps of green smoke rose from the grass. It was only then that the Advance Team realised that the Judgement Legion they hadn’t seen in a while had arrived.
After being obstructed by Theron several times, their manpower supply was greatly reduced. In particular, in the last standoff, Theron even used field artillery to bombard the Judgement Legion. Now, the Judgement Legion’s main force, who had embarrassingly retreated here, consisted of just over fifty people. Including the surviving retainers, the size was just over a hundred and nearly two hundred people, which was a mere tenth of the size when they set out.
They hid by the lake to avoid being discovered by Theron’s large army. Due to insufficient supplies, they had to hunt and fish around to barely sustain their livelihood, all the while eagerly awaiting the arrival of the airboat from Headquarters.
Ever since Kroel was eliminated by Luo’er, all the power of the Judgement Legion fell onto Dina. This guy was probably shouldering such a heavy responsibility for the first time. When the airboat arrived, he had completely collapsed, looking like he had aged several years.
