Otherworld Advance Team -
Chapter 496 - 489: Interfering with the Plan
Chapter 496: Chapter 489: Interfering with the Plan
"This isn’t a simple matter," Hu Daoke, stroking his chin and voicing his surprise said, "Who’d have thought such a backward otherworld could actually have something so SciFi as a consciousness network."
"Don’t marvel at their achievement - this technology isn’t originally theirs," Nightingale said indifferently.
"It’s not theirs?" Luo’er asked, looking at her.
"Have you ever heard of the ancestors?" Nightingale asked.
"The ancestors..." At the mention of the ancestors, Luo’er immediately thought of the Otherworld Gate. He exchanged a glance with Cheng Ziang and nodded.
"The consciousness network technology originates from an ancestral artifact. My father spent most of his life deciphering this artifact but his achievement was stolen." Nightingale said, a touch of regret in her tone. Perhaps due to the passage of time, she could no longer harbor the anger towards what had transpired before.
"They succeeded?" Luo’er asked.
"It seems unlikely, but they probably had some significant breakthroughs. The artifacts of the ancestors aren’t easy to figure out - my father spent most of his life barely understanding the superficial secrets within." Nightingale responded, sighing deeply.
"You may have heard something like this," pausing, she continued, "the magic of the Otherworld is Earth’s technology, essentially both being explorations of the physical world’s laws. Before the contact between Otherworld and Earth, our understanding of this world remained rudimentary. What Earth’s people truly brought to this world wasn’t advanced culture or weaponry, but the spirit of scientific pursuit of truth and laws. It was with this spirit that my father’s research made breakthroughs."
"So, the people of the Ancient States have not yet fully mastered the consciousness network." Luo’er nodded confirming his understanding.
"Wait a minute, is the consciousness network technology or a thing?" Hu Daoke was puzzled.
"It’s a device that is said to be able to extract the soul and communicate with gods. Of course, that’s what the believers say. The ancestors might have used this device to establish a globally connected consciousness network, just like the internet on Earth," Nightingale explained.
Although she was from Otherworld, she had been studying Earth’s cultural technology since she was young, so scientific terms flowed naturally from her lips, sounding completely natural.
"In your opinion, how far along should their Creating God Plan be right now?" Cheng Ziang asked after contemplating for a moment.
"Hmm," Nightingale looked at the blueprints on the wall and responded with a serious face, "The Creating God Plan consists of two parts: building the body and soul ascension. Based on the available information, they should have already conquered the task of building the body. The only obstacle in their way might just be the soul ascension, that is, research into the consciousness network."
"What has halted their progress?" Luo’er asked.
After considering for a moment, Nightingale explained, "Extracting consciousness from the human body requires a suitable container to store it; otherwise, the consciousness would return to the body. If the return of consciousness to the body is blocked, it would dissipate into the atmosphere. The container for storing consciousness needs to have an excellent affinity with consciousness; otherwise, it would have serious consequences."
"My father once speculated that the consciousness network device should have a matching container, but it was lost over the ages. Just before my father met with trouble, he had already solved the extraction of consciousness, so what’s blocking them now should be the issue of storing consciousness."
"However, as it appears now, they seem to have found a solution to store consciousness." After a pause, Nightingale added.
"So, does this mean they are already more than halfway successful?" Luo’er asked with a furrowed brow.
"How do they solve the problem of consciousness storage?" Cheng Ziang couldn’t help but ask.
"If I’m guessing right, they likely used a conduit made from magic." Nightingale speculated.
"A conduit?" Cheng Ziang was taken aback.
"Yes, the principle of the Idealism Creation Theory is to extract consciousness from the human body and then infuse it into magic components that have been compiled and consolidated. If the magic components can connect and integrate with consciousness, it means they can use magic to envelop the consciousness, preventing it from dissipating and diffusing," Nightingale explained.
Li Si was watching these people discuss intricate topics, and after struggling for a long while was unable to interrupt. Finally, when everyone fell silent, he found an opportunity to speak: "Just a reminder about the demands from headquarters. In principle, neither our headquarters nor the entire United Nations permits the development of such military technology in the Otherworld. Therefore, it’s their demand to destroy the research of the Ancient States. Technically, all researchers participating in this study must be eliminated, no respite should be given."
"Isn’t that too extreme? To restrain their development, we have to destroy their research and kill their scientists," Hu Daoke hesitated to ask.
"It’s necessary. The Ancient States are located in the south of the continent, more than a thousand kilometers away from Yazhi City. Earth’s influence hardly reaches here. Letting them grow stronger would put us at a disadvantage. If we turn a blind eye, one day, they will rise to challenge the Earth’s position in this world. We hope each country in the Otherworld can prosper and become strong, but these developments must be based on our order. The Ancient States have already shown signs of defying our order, and we need to nip it in the bud, not considering countermeasures after the problem escalates," Li Si said.
His point was clear; the Earthlings were attempting to establish order in the Otherworld with their technology, whether it was the headquarters or the CIA, they were all working towards this target.
It may seem unacceptable, but the reality is, the weak are always at the mercy of the stronger ones’ order. If they don’t wish to accept this destiny, then they must challenge the strong and become strong themselves.
There is no such thing as unchecked power in this world. Any environment devoid of order can only lead to chaos and slaughter.
The Earthlings may allow the Ancient States to research the so-called Creating God Plan, but they must live under Earth’s order. Before they completely control this world, they will do everything in their power to impede the Ancient States’ progress.
On this matter, both the headquarters and the CIA share the same stance, unusually not trying to throw a wrench in the works of each other.
"I came here not just to collect the research material, too. After all, this was all my father’s hard work," Nightingale seemed unconcerned about the Earthlings interfering with the Ancient States’ progress, showing an indifferent attitude.
This was not because her personal interests ruled her decisions, but because she also thought that the Ancient States attempting to challenge the forming order was like a moth attracted to a flame. As Li Si said, Earthlings don’t oppose the progress of magic sciences in the Otherworld, provided it is under Earth’s order. They won’t sit idly by while the Ancient States develop unchecked, just as they won’t allow weeds to overrun their garden.
"Let’s pause the theoretical discussion about the Creating God Plan here. Now let’s move to the command center’s deployment. The Advance Team will join us on the airboat to the southern border of Ilanadale and the Ancient States. Members of the Judgement Legion are waiting for us there. This is a joint operation. Besides the Advance Team and the Judgement Legion, we have also temporarily hired a mercenary group of fifty people to assist us with this mission," Li Si said.
"Going there directly by airboat?" Hu Daoke couldn’t help but ask.
"Not exactly," Li Si shook his head, "The airboat will be docked within the borders of Ilanadale, serving as a logistical supply base. You all will board the transport plane to break into the Ancient States’ airspace to complete the special operations mission. For this operation, all units must follow my command, including the Church Court’s Judgement Legion."
