Chapter 487: Chapter 480: Lighter and Gunpowder

"Let’s change the subject, just apologising is too monotonous, after all, it’s our first time meeting, we definitely have a lot to talk about." Luo’er said calmly.

"I have nothing to talk about with you." Luoya turned her face away, grumbling.

"Alright." Luo’er nodded and closed his mouth. In an instant, the atmosphere in the room became awkward again.

However, the awkward silence didn’t last too long as Luo’er soon took the initiative to ask, "Are... are you and Mom... doing okay here?"

"No, life is hard." Luoya said coldly.

"I see..." Luo’er responded somewhat awkwardly.

Cheng Ziang standing outside the door couldn’t help but sigh. He wanted to rush in and loudly remind Luoya, "You are here to apologize! Even if you don’t apologize, at least soften your tone and have a good chat with your elder brother!"

It seems that he did overestimate Luoya. She is naive. Thankfully, Luo’er has a good temper, otherwise, he would have flipped out by now.

"When I was on Earth, I was worried about you guys every day." Luo’er paused, speaking somewhat guiltily.

His guilt stemmed from the fact that before meeting Luoya, he thought Nina was waiting for him in Ilanadale. To his surprise, when his family was separated, Nina was already pregnant with Luoya. As a result, she could not travel back to Ilanadale and had to settle in a village on the border between the Ancient States and Ilanadale.

"When you were enjoying life on Earth, did you ever think about us?" Luoya asked coldly.

"What enjoyment? Life on Earth wasn’t easy either." Luo’er furrowed his brows, showing his dissatisfaction with Luoya’s attitude.

"Is that so? Mother said that Earth is a wonderful world, and you and Father had a good life there. You certainly wouldn’t miss us in this world." Luoya said coldly, her eyes on him.

"What do you mean by having an easy life? Do you think our life was easy?" Angry, Luo’er sat up on the bed, his eyes on her, "Father passed away not long after, and for the past twenty years, I’ve been all alone."

"At least no one would laugh at you or call you a bastard." As she spoke, Luoya’s eyes began to fill with tears, "Do you know what we’ve been through all these years? Do you know how much suffering Mother has been through for the so-called promise?"

"So, you’re saying... it’s my father’s and my fault?" Luo’er asked, his gaze on her.

"Isn’t it? If it weren’t for you, for that so-called promise, Mother would have listened to me, moved to the City of Stars, and married a man who truly loved her." Luoya’s eyes were red as she said this.

"As a result, our father still died. Mother waited for him for over twenty years, and it was all in vain. Is this fair to her? Why should she suffer so much? Just to wait for you and your so-called father." As she continued, her voice grew louder.

"If Mother heard you say this, she would definitely be angry. What happened between them is not for us to comment on. We are the younger generation and do not have the right to measure their feelings." As angry as he was, Luo’er kept his basic wits about him.

"That’s correct, we don’t get a say, but is that really fair? Why didn’t Father die sooner, so Mother wouldn’t have to wait for him?" Luoya shouted.

"What did you say!" After hearing her words, Luo’er finally lost his temper and was furious.

He couldn’t believe that Luoya would openly curse their father in front of him. Perhaps to her, the idea of a father was abstract, but that didn’t give her a reason to curse their father.

Before he met Luoya, Luo’er always thought he had a gentle temper and that his anger had a limit. But this time, he felt that his anger had reached its peak. He even wanted to jump off the bed, give Luoya a ferocious slap, just to vent his anger.

"Uh, well..." Just as the two were about to clash, Cheng Ziang and Hu Daoke walked in from the door. Hu Daoke comforted Luo’er while Cheng Ziang took the opportunity to usher Luoya out.

He couldn’t believe the two siblings, upon meeting each other, were like a match and gunpowder – it became explosive in an instant. Fortunately, he had the presence of mind to wait outside the door; otherwise, a real fight might have broken out.

Ignoring Luoya’s struggle, Cheng Ziang pulled her out of Luo’er’s room and into another. Luoya struggled fiercely; by the time he let go of her arm, her wrist was already red from her own grip.

"What on earth is going on between you two? Can’t you just talk things through?" Cheng Ziang looked at her and asked.

"What’s it to you!" Luoya screamed in frustration, tears instantly spilling out of her eyes.

She tried to leave, but Cheng Ziang held her firmly in place. In her anger, she vented it all on Cheng Ziang, wildly swinging her fists at him.

Her punches were not weak, thudding against Cheng Ziang’s chest. Had Cheng Ziang’s build not been so sturdy, he might have had no breath left after such a beating.

After a while, she seemed to be out of energy, both hands resting on Cheng Ziang’s chest, head bowed as she sobbed.

"Feel better now?" Cheng Ziang asked.

Luoya didn’t respond. She let go of her arms and fell against Cheng Ziang’s chest. With her head against his chest, she cried incessantly.

"Er..." Faced with this situation for the first time, Cheng Ziang hesitated for a long time before finally deciding not to hold her. He didn’t want to take advantage of her vulnerability. She was Luo’er’s sister after all, so he had to be careful how he treated her.

"Can you tell me why you are not happy?" Cheng Ziang paused before softening his tone and asked gently.

"Hmm!" Luoya grunted out amidst her sobs.

"You hate your brother, so you don’t want to talk to him, is that it?" Cheng Ziang asked.

"Hmm!" Luoya confirmed.

"You hate him because you feel he abandoned you, is that it?" Cheng Ziang speculated after some thought.

"Hmm!" Luoya nodded.

As expected, he had guessed right. In fact, Cheng Ziang had always felt that Luoya harbored feelings of resentment towards her so-called father and brother. He thought that their issues could be resolved if they just spoke to each other, but in reality, they had ended up at odds after just a few words. If he hadn’t appeared timely, Luo’er might have been so annoyed that he would have ended up being called away by Tana again.

It seemed that although this was a family matter, an outside mediator was still needed. After all, a bystander often sees things more clearly, as they are not mired in their own positions like them, hence unable to be objective.

"If there’s something you don’t want to discuss with your brother or mother, you can tell me. I’ll see if I can help you find a solution," Cheng Ziang said after a sigh.

"You won’t spread it around, will you?" Hearing his words, Luoya looked up at him, her eyes swollen red, and asked.

"It depends," Cheng Ziang averted his gaze; he didn’t dare look her in the eye.

Luoya lowered her head and fell silent for a long time before finally speaking, "In this world, the further south you go, the less the discrimination against half-elves. I had once hoped to go to the City of Stars in the Ancient States with my mother, where it’s the most fair. But mother said that if she were to go too far away, father and brother wouldn’t be able to find us. So, she insisted on staying in that border village, waiting for their return day after day."

"But..." she trailed off, lowering her gaze, which also dimmed, "Now she learned that father had died over twenty years ago. Which means, all these years that we waited were in vain. If we had known the outcome earlier, we would have headed south directly. Why did we have to stay in the border for so long and suffer so much?"

"So, that’s why you bear a grudge against your brother and your father?" Cheng Ziang asked.

"Sometimes I hate myself too. Why was I born into this world? If I wasn’t born, my mother could return to Ilanadale. It’s all the fault of that so-called father. If it weren’t for him, I wouldn’t have been born, and my mother wouldn’t have suffered," Luoya sniffed and said.
