Otherworld Advance Team -
Chapter 476 - 469: Triumphantly Return
Chapter 476: Chapter 469: Triumphantly Return
Most of the elven soldiers involved in the siege were male, but there were also quite a few females. After all, Ilanadale had a greater female population, thus women were also expected to join the army. The fact that so many male elves were mobilized for the siege underscores just how seriously Divine Wood Town took this operation.
Compared to Luo’er, these male elves had a softer demeanor. They were pale and clean, as beautiful as girls. Luo’er, being a half-elf, had more of the robustness of his father in his appearance.
The elves were not very old, or thus relatively speaking, their average age was around 200 years, approximately equivalent to a twenty-year-old in the human race. At this age, Nina’s authority was still quite effective, especially since she was one of the few veteran soldiers in Ilanadale who had participated in the Otherworld War.
When Ilanadale twice sent troops to participate in the Otherworld War, or the Prophetic War as they call it, most of the elves did not return alive. The Elven armies had strong offensive but weak defensive, when facing the firepower of the Earth troops, any charge would be akin to suicide without the protection of the heavily armed human knights.
The pursuit of the remnants of the enemy was still in progress, but Nina had already delegated command. The advance team had achieved striking results, causing great losses to the invaders, such results should be enough to convince the queen to agree to the alliance and save Luo’er.
"Your Highness, how should we deal with the weapons of these invaders?" The elven officer who had received the command couldn’t help but want Nina’s instructions.
Nina glanced at Cheng Ziang, then said to him, "Load the weapons onto the cart and bring them back to Divine Wood Town!"
"Understood!" The elf officer nodded and then left.
Actually, Nina also intended to promote the modernization of the Ilanadale army, giving up the outdated weapons such as swords, spears, and bows. Wood elves were good at fighting in pristine forests, and if the additional firepower from weapons could be utilized, their combat power would increase geometrically.
Hu Daoke was squatting down inspecting a British Lee Enfield rifle, checking the ammunition condition inside the barrel. Two young female elf soldiers were watching him with great interest, their eyes full of admiration.
Their ages corresponded to around fifteen or sixteen years in the human race, still an age of youthful infatuation, thus they were easily captivated by the allure of such violent beauty.
"Want to try?" Noticing them staring at him, Hu Daoke pulled the unfired bullet from the barrel, picked up a 7.7-caliber shell casing and inserted it into the barrel, then offered it to them.
The two elf girls weren’t shy. They accepted the rifle with enthusiasm, fumbling with it awkwardly. Realizing their confusion, Hu Daoke stepped forward and gave them some guidance.
"Hold it like this, then align the three points, pull the trigger, then pull the bolt..." Hu Daoke instructed patiently.
Curiously, he was speaking Tasta, and the elf girls were speaking Elvish. Yet, despite the language barrier, they seemed to understand each other perfectly.
One of the elf girls pressed her cheek against the stock and aimed. In accordance with his instructions, she pulled the bolt forcefully, but because her face was too close, she was hit hard by the bolt getting ejected. She dropped the rifle immediately, covering her face, whimpering in pain.
"Are...are you alright?" Hu Daoke threw the rifle aside and asked with concern.
The elf girl looked up at him, her large eyes filled with innocence. Her irises were somewhat sky blue, her eyes deep and pure, capable of striking straight to one’s heart with just one look.
Hu Daoke blushed, then turned and walked away, hand covering his heart and muttering "I can’t handle it, can’t handle it!"
He finally understood why so many risked their lives to captivate elf girls for trafficking. Such beauty seemed heavenly and was rarely experienced by humans. Just one glance made Hu Daoke feel like he was about to lose his sanity.
According to the Elves’ prediction, the battle was expected to last an entire day. However, with the assistance of the advance team, the battle ended completely in less than two hours. As they were loading the weapons onto the cart and preparing to return to Divine Wood Town, the Elven cavalry finally returned from the pursuit, bringing back several human heads. It seemed they had successfully eradicated the remnants of the invading hunters.
Looking at the bloody human heads, the members of the advance team couldn’t help but furrow their brows. They had killed many with their firearms, but they had never beheaded anyone. It seemed that although the Elf Race appeared to be at peace with the world, they were no less brutal than the Human Race when they decided to be.
After a brief struggle with Nina, Tangmo came to the side of the wagon to inspect the seized Rune Armor. But after just one glance, she couldn’t help but shake her head in disgust and murmured, "Rubbish!"
Ever since entering the Otherworld, the advance team has encountered a great deal of enemies in Rune Armor, typically worn by regular soldiers. Subsequently, it was also worn by some mercenaries. According to the laws of the Otherworld, mercenaries were entitled to the same treatment as soldiers, hence they were permitted to wear Rune Armor.
In the experienced eyes of Tangmo, the defense runes inscribed on the Hunting Party’s Rune Armor were of grossly inferior quality. Their sole function, it seemed, was to marginally increase the armor’s strength. Yet they were not even able to withstand close-quarter gunfire.
The most insane defense rune they had seen so far was the one embedded on the chariot, which could actually withstand direct attacks from a rocket launcher. In comparison, the armor of an average heavy cavalryman could easily defend against close-range gunfire without any problem.
It was precisely these substandard gear that had left the army of Ilanadale at a loss. This adequately demonstrated the extent to which Ilanadale’s army had fallen behind.
Cheng Ziang believed that Ilanadale’s army was essentially equivalent to the natives of the New Continent, whereas the Hunting Team was akin to western colonists of that period. The natives’ poison-tipped arrows may pose a threat to the colonists, but ultimately, they were no match for firearms.
Although Ilanadale possessed Kedal metal that boasted astonishing piercing abilities, it still couldn’t compensate for the vast discrepancy in their equipment. If Ilanadal doesn’t make changes, it will be left behind when the countries of the Otherworld enter the Industrial Age.
By then, Nina should leave behind any intentions of returning to Ilanadale, and just focus on trying to stay alive in the Ancient States. Because at that time, there was a high chance that Ilanadale would already be annexed.
After organizing their equipment, Nina took along the people from Divine Wood Down and moved grandiosely toward Divine Wood Down. The result of this battle was uplifting. Using this splendid fight, the advance team dispelled the queen’s suspicions about them.
Cheng Ziang felt that with these seized weapons and heads, they should be able to coax and pressure the queen to accept Luo’er and form a cooperative relationship with the headquarters.
Inside the chariot, Nina was surrounded by Tangmo and Baiyue as usual, they were joking and talking, looking like a close-knit family. It was clear that these two girls were pulling all the stops to curry favor with Nina, hoping to get a boost. After all, Nina was the person whom Luo’er was most concerned about. As long as they could gain her approval, this was undoubtedly tantamount to receiving a royal seal.
"You two are great, I wish Luoya would be as obedient as you guys," said Nina, stroking the girls’ heads with a sigh after a bout of laughter.
Hearing her words, Tangmo blinked rapidly and instantly found a way in. She cozied up to Nina and suggested shyly, "If auntie doesn’t mind, please consider us as your goddaughters."
Her words almost made Hu Daoke and Cheng Ziang on the other side of the chariot spit out blood in shock. Nina touched her little head, squinting her eyes into crescents, seemingly deep in thought, before responding cheerfully, "But if you both become my goddaughters, doesn’t that make you Luo’er’s sisters?"
"Ah..." Tangmo was immediately dumbfounded on hearing this. She had run into a deadlock – if she were to be called Luo’er’s sister, wouldn’t her prospects with him be completely dead?
"Kidding, adding to the family affection," Nina replied with a cheerful laugh.
"Mom!" Tangmo, excited by Nina’s words, threw herself into Nina’s embrace, seeking her affection. Baiyue was not to be outdone, she didn’t speak, but her actions were no slower than Tangmo’s.
"Oh really..." Looking at the two of them, Cheng Ziang couldn’t help but shake his head.
"This mother-daughter relationship is amazing!" exclaimed Hu Daoke.
