Chapter 458: Chapter 451: Through the Blockade_1
With Cheng Ziang’s words, Nina had more confidence in Luo’er’s affairs. She was not fighting alone now, behind Luo’er stood a massive organization; it was just that she had long been staying in the south and was not very familiar with the so-called headquarters’ overall strength.
Actually, from the very start, Cheng Ziang planned to use this exact approach. The influence of the headquarters in the north of the Otherworld was undeniable, but currently, there had been little progress in the south. This was mainly because Lin Wei placed all work emphasis in the north.
If they could seize this opportunity to form a line of communication with Ilanadale in the south, they would establish a stronghold there.
Although the south was big, there weren’t many potential collaborators. On the surface, the headquarters and the Church Court maintained an equivalently balanced relationship, which was relatively amicable. Therefore, under these circumstances, the headquarters were unable to communicate with the Ancient States in the south.
The Ancient States and the Church Court were mortal enemies, so any contact between the headquarters and the Ancient States might turn both sides against them and ruin their plans. For Lin Wei, every step of the headquarters needed to be cautious. It would rather adopt a wait-and-see approach rather than take drastic measures.
If they were to establish a relationship with Ilanadale, the best way would be to owe them a favor, so that when Ilanadale needs to claim it in the future, they can deepen cooperation through mutual exchanges.
But today, he encountered a surprising piece of information that made him feel that his plan was more feasible.
Luo’er’s mother, Nina, was the youngest daughter of the Queen of Ilanadale, and thus Luo’er was technically the grandson of the Queen. Luo’er’s father, Luo Chuan, was the son of Luo Qishan, who was the initiator of the Origin Project.
With this family relationship, there would be no worries about Ilanadale not leaning towards the headquarters. He originally thought that Nina was merely an ordinary elf, but her status turned out to be so prestigious. It seemed that establishing contact and cooperation with Ilanadale was likely to succeed.
Looking at the somewhat confused Millie, Cheng Ziang continued to say: "Captain Millie, I’m not sure if you can make the decision. If you can’t, please let someone who can, come and meet with me. Is that okay?"
"What do you want?" Millie looked at him, her tone became more polite.
"On behalf of the headquarters, I request Ilanadale to assist our members. Of course, in exchange, we will also give you substantial rewards," Cheng Ziang said.
His tone contained an insistent urgency, something he had picked up from Luo’er. Or, perhaps, it was Luo’er’s habit that he had unknowingly adopted.
When conversing with others, they always liked to find faults and attack their opponents. Once their foes showed any signs of weakness, they would continue pressuring them in an almost commanding tone until they agreed to their demands.
Back in Holy Heart City, Luo’er had used the same method to converse with the boss of the Hound Gang, Azita. However, neither of them benefited from it, so it wasn’t a foolproof technique. At least, Luo’er didn’t dare to use this method on Melia. Given her intelligence, Luo’er knew that if he tried, she would catch him off guard and defeat him.
"I don’t know what you’re talking about. All I know is that I can’t let you pass. My duty is to patrol this area and deny any outsider or half-elf entry into Ilanadale," after thinking for a while, Millie gathered up her courage and responded.
"So you’re saying you want to reject our request?" asked Cheng Ziang in a calm and composed manner.
"Yes!" Millie nodded her head.
Upon hearing her response, Cheng Ziang let out a small sigh, and then said: "Captain Millie, rules may be rigid, but people are flexible. Why insist on clinging to the rules? You could just pretend to have seen nothing and let us pass..."
"No, now that I have seen it, I can’t pretend I haven’t!" Millie asserted stubbornly.
"Captain Millie, please think it through. We sincerely extended an olive branch to you. This is an excellent opportunity. As you can’t make a decision for Ilanadale, please don’t hinder Ilanadale’s future either. The north is undergoing dramatic changes. In the future, the northerners will only become stronger. Do you really think you can continue to remain conservative?" Cheng Ziang said, word by word.
Indeed, what he said was the truth. Once the industrial revolution begins in the north, the demand for resources will surge. Under such circumstances, those backward feudal nations were like lambs waiting to be slaughtered to them.
The people of Earth embarked on the road to World War I due to the development of the Industrial Revolution. If nothing unexpected happens, the people of the Otherworld will follow the same path, reshuffling the entirety of the Otherworld. Assuming that the people of Earth do not interfere, the Otherworld fifty years from now will be utterly different from the Otherworld today.
Humans tend always to stumble over the same pit more than once, and those who are ahead would always laugh at the ones who have fallen without giving them a warning in advance.
"As long as we stay in Ilanadale, we can receive protection from Tana. We’re not afraid of your so-called Northern threat." Millie retorted stubbornly.
Upon hearing her words, Cheng Ziang sighed helplessly and closed his mouth. If Millie was using something as abstract as faith to dispute with him, there wouldn’t be much left for him to say. It was like playing the lute to a cow when trying to reason with this religious fanatic.
The negotiation fell into silence as Cheng Ziang lowered his head in contemplation. At this point, he was no longer against the idea of doing away with all the elf soldiers in their surroundings. If all else fails, it seemed that he would have to resort to force.
Suddenly, Princess Nina, who had also been quiet, took the initiative to speak. She turned to Cheng Ziang and asked him seriously, "Cheng Ziang, Luo’er is a member of your team, right?"
"Yes." Although Cheng Ziang didn’t understand what she was planning, he nodded in affirmation.
"Are you representing the headquarters?" Nina continued questioning.
"Yes!" Cheng Ziang nodded again, seeming to finally catch onto something.
"Both Luo’er and Luoya are Luo Chuan’s children, right?" Nina asked.
"Exactly!" Cheng Ziang nodded.
"Very well," Nina slightly bowed her head, took a step back, and performed an elf’s courtesy ritual. She then respectfully said, "Captain Cheng Ziang, on behalf of the Princess of Ilanadale, I welcome you as our guests."
"Thank you, Your Highness," Cheng Ziang bowed slightly in return, showing his respect.
"Princess Nina, this..." Millie stared at her, a look of speechless surprise across her face.
"What’s the matter, Captain Millie?" Nina looked down at her from a superior position. For some reason, Millie felt an unprecedented pressure from her; the respectful demeanor that a princess should have was emanating from her, making her drop her glance in reverence.
"You are..." Even though Millie instinctively lowered her head, there were still many things she wanted to say.
"According to Ilanadale’s law, as long as one gives up their children, they can return to Ilanadale and regain their rightful status. Captain Millie, I have now relinquished my parental rights over Luo’er and Luoya. Naturally, I am entitled to reclaim my position as a princess, am I not?" Nina asked.
"Yes, you are correct, but..." Millie began, glancing at Cheng Ziang and the people on the carriage.
"They are," Nina said, glancing over at the carriage, "They are guests from the headquarters. I, as the princess of Ilanadale, welcome them to Ilanadale. Do you have any problem with that?"
"Just as he said, if you are unable to decide the fate of Ilanadale, then let me do it. I am the princess, and I can take responsibility for Ilanadale," Nina stated.
"Yes, yes, you’re right. Since it’s the princess’s wish, we naturally have no objections," Millie drooped her head, swallowing a gulp of saliva, and then ordered her patrol members to let them pass.
"Captain Millie, you are very dutiful, but I hope you can be a little more adaptable in certain situations," spoke Nina coldly before leaving.
Having finally breached this blockade line, everyone immediately relaxed, taking deep breaths in relief. It was unexpected that they were able to pass mostly due to Nina’s status. However, the fact that Nina could think of such a method showed her flexibility, unlike the stubborn Captain Millie.
