Chapter 444: Chapter 437: Righting Wrongs on Behalf of Heaven

In the distance, the sounds of gunshots and explosions still echoed ceaselessly. Rustling noises arose sporadically from within the dense primeval forest. Teams of attackers moved systematically along the winding trails, shifting the battlefield and avoiding head-on confrontation with the Judgement Knights.

"Sir, are those people Theron’s men?" Luo’er looked towards the direction of the gunshots and explosions in the distance, then turned to Kroel and asked.

"Yes, I didn’t expect these bastards to have such an array of firearms," Kroel said, changing the subject, and stared at Luo’er, "Why did you Earthlings sell these dangerous weapons to these heretics?"

"Sir, all hustle and bustle comes from the pursuit of profit. Who would refuse such an opportunity when there is money to be made?" Luo’er gave a nonchalant shrug in response.

"What do you mean?" Kroel did not understand the Chinese phrase that Luo’er had just used.

"It simply means that if the Ancient States people are willing to pay, even if we don’t sell it, others will. Blaming everything on the Earth people is somewhat irresponsible, isn’t it? Since you dislike these weapons, why not speak directly to the Pope and have him ban weapon trading between the two worlds?" replied Luo’er dismissively.

Stunned by Luo’er’s retort, Kroel was left speechless. He looked ragged, covered in bruises and scratches. His beautiful and ornate robe was torn and ragged from getting caught on tree branches.

Kroel’s body was so corpulent that he needed his entourage to clear a path for him even on a trail as narrow as this. Otherwise, the sharp branches would scratch his delicate skin.

Despite being winter, Kroel was soaked in sweat and beads of perspiration were scattered across his forehead. As soon as Luo’er came near him, he could smell a foul odor emanating from him.

Kroel didn’t seem to pay much attention to hygiene. His oily face mixed with sweat, making it so greasy that it seemed to reflect light.

The three attendants following him didn’t look like simple servants. They wore chainmail, had short swords at their waists, and carried a round leather shield on their backs. Two of them were supporting Kroel, the other was paving the way with his sword.

Luo’er has always believed that if the attendants were armed and trained properly, their combat ability would be on par with the Judgement Knights. They could become another fighting force within the Judgement Legion, avoiding being so passive when facing such an ambush.

However, it was unlikely. After all, if they were trained and equipped, heaven knows if they would willingly obey these knightly masters. For the Judgment Legion, the main combat power lay in the 500 Rune Knights. The attendants were essentially just cannon fodder.

Originally, Kroel was under the protection of the Judgement Knights, which made it impossible for Luo’er and his team to make a move. The rune armor worn by the Judgement Knights could not be penetrated by ordinary bullets. Even if they could, it would be easy to find out who did it. As the only group armed with magic-breaking bullets in both the Earth and the Otherworld, Luo’er did not dare to act against Kroel.

But things were different now. Kroel had lost the protection of the Judgement Knights and only had three attendants with him. Compared to the Judgement Knights, these attendants were much easier to deal with. The chainmail they wore could only guard against common swords and arrows, they were utterly ineffective against bullets. Even Luo’er’s handgun could easily pierce their chainmail.

Kroel, who had been worried about being understaffed, was relieved to have Luo’er added to their ranks. His dislike for Luo’er’s firearms couldn’t outweigh his acknowledgement of Luo’er’s combat prowess.

During the initial scramble with the Advance Team for Arya’s Blade, they managed to fight toe-to-toe with the Judgement Knights and withdraw unscathed.

However, the Judgement Legion was negligent that time, leaving Arya’s Blade in the hands of the Church Court’s special envoy. But that fool thought his sword skills invincible. In the end, he was completely defeated.

"Captain Luo’er, lead the way forward, let’s leave this dangerous area!" Although they were allies, Kroel commanded Luo’er quite brusquely. Even though the Advance Team and the Judgement Legion did not have a clear hierarchical relationship, he had already put himself in charge.

Hearing his command, Luo’er did not refuse. He glanced at Kroel, then nodded and said, "All right, I’ll lead the way. Please keep up with me, Lord Kroel, and don’t fall behind."

Kroel noticed a barely discernible smirk on Luo’er’s face as he spoke, wondering what he was thinking. For some unknown reason, Kroel felt an inexplicable sense of dread, suspecting Luo’er of harboring ill intentions.

At this moment, Luo’er did not immediately strike. He earnestly escorted Kroel further from the battlefield. He knew the further they were from the Judgment Legion, the greater his chance would be.

Even though the primeval forest was difficult to navigate, the trail was not bumpy. Luo’er, accompanying Kroel, slowly climbed a hill. The hill was not tall, but it wore Kroel out, soaking his robe with sweat.

Upon reaching a small plateau at the hilltop, Luo’er found it relatively open with a good view. It was also approximately a kilometer away from the battlefield, far enough for Luo’er to make his move.

"Sir, let’s wait for the others here!" Luo’er took a few steps forward, checked that there was a cliff beneath the plateau, then turned and said to Kroel.

"Good, good, good..." Even though he had help, Kroel was so exhausted that he could barely speak.

"Take a rest here, sir. The wind is strong here, it will help you cool down." Luo’er pointed to the platform in front of him, smiling as he spoke.

"Thank you, Captain Luo’er!" In response to Luo’er’s smile, Kroel didn’t feel any caution but even started to feel a hint of affection towards him.

With two attendants supporting him, Kroel slowly climbed up to the platform and stood still. Looking at the open scenery in the distance and feeling the wind blowing through the mountains, he suddenly felt the stifling heat from before dissipate instantly.

"Both of you, stand guard down there, don’t let Theron’s men come up here!" After leading Kroel to the platform, Luo’er said to his attendants.

We are on it!" The attendants didn’t question Luo’er’s words at all and after nodding they turned to leave.

In a flash, just as the attendants turned around, Luo’er skillfully drew his silenced pistol from his waist. With the fastest speed, he prepared the firearm and then fired a shot at the back of each of the three attendants.

"Squelch, squelch, squelch!"

It sounded as though intestines were exploding, and the heads of the three attendants in front of him were blasted open instantly. Even though the silenced pistols were small calibre, they didn’t lack power, and swiftly pierced through their skull.

"What’s happening, Luo..." Kroel, upon hearing the strange sounds behind him, and smelling the strong scent of blood in the air, seemed to sense danger. He instinctively turned his body to see what was happening.

But Luo’er didn’t plan to give him the chance. He swiftly adjusted his gun aim and took a shot at Kroel’s left calf. Kroel didn’t feel any pain yet, and the bullet had already pierced through his calf. A numb sensation traveled up, and Kroel instinctively knelt on the ground.

As he knelt on the ground with one knee, the intense pain from his leg finally arrived. The pain was so severe that Kroel couldn’t help screaming out loud. Luo’er didn’t wait for him to finish screaming, he raised his leg and kicked directly onto his back.

Kroel was like a round ball, he rolled directly off the platform. Before starting his attack, Luo’er had estimated the cliff was not high, however, it was still over ten meters. Kroel falling from that height would either kill him or cripple him permanently- a few more shots would send him to meet the Goddess of Light.

However, Kroel’s will to survive was impressively strong. The instant he rolled off the cliff, he used all his strength to grab onto the vines at the edge of the cliff. The upper half of his body clung to the cliff and the lower half was dangling.

"Luo’er, what are you doing!?" Kroel distorted his face and roared out; he couldn’t believe that this half-elf would attack him. Once he got back up there, he would tear Luo’er into pieces; regardless of his allegiance to the headquarters.

"Turns out you’re quite robust!" Upon seeing Kroel clinging to the edge of the cliff, Luo’er didn’t rush his actions; he thought it was better for Kroel to fully understand why he was dying.

"Why, aren’t you afraid of making enemies with the Church Court?" Kroel gritted his teeth to squeeze these words out. Just holding onto the vines alone had exhausted all his strength- without anyone’s help, he wouldn’t manage to climb back up.

"Mr. Kroel, your death has nothing to do with us. You should know that it’s not only us who know how to use guns, those from Theron can too." Luo’er tilted his head to look at him, even showing a slight smile on his face.

"Are you... one of Theron’s people?" Kroel gritted his teeth and asked.

"Oh, no, we are people from Earth." Luo’er answered casually.

"Then why, are you helping... them?" Kroel asked.

"Don’t misunderstand, sir. Although we don’t wish to offend the people of the Ancient States, this matter is of personal grudge between you and I, and has nothing to do with Theron!" Luo’er responded.

"Captain Luo’er, I... I don’t know how I... wronged you...?" Kroel’s face started to slowly turn pale, obviously, he was starting to feel exhausted.

"Don’t you know the number of wrongdoing you have committed?" Luo’er’s expression gradually disappeared as he spoke.

"I... don’t think... I have wronged... you, right?" Kroel asked weakly.

"No, we are just doing justice for heaven. Or rather, to put it precisely, we should say that we are judging you on behalf of the goddess... Oh no," Luo’er scratched his head, feigning a sudden realization, "we should say, only the Goddess of Light can judge you, and what I am doing, is escorting you to meet the Goddess of Light!"
