Chapter 443 - 436: Kick Someone When They Are Down
Chapter 443: Chapter 436: Kick Someone When They Are Down
The main reason for the defeat in this battle should be attributed to the Judgement Legion’s underestimation of Theron. The last time that the Judgement Legion fought with Theron was over a decade ago when Theron’s modernisation process was not fully developed. As a result, the Judgement Legion believed that they only had a small amount of firearms as their main weapons, and their primary mode of combat was still based on cold weapons.
Unexpectedly, over a decade later, Theron had long discarded the traditional way of cold weapon combat and instead learned from the Earthlings’ concept of firearms combat. It was precisely because of this that the Judgement Legion was caught off guard.
Actually, while vying for Arya’s Blade, the Judgement Legion had already experienced several battles mainly involving hot weapons. However, back then, the opponent’s firearms could not harm the rune knights in their armours, and only powerful cannons and rocket launchers were effective.
If the Judgement Legion knew that they faced such advanced enemies, they certainly would not have brought so many people deep into enemy territory, using cold weapons to fight these opponents.
However, since they were already here and engaged in the fight, they could only grit their teeth and continue. The battle was similar to the one they had in Saint Bawa; the enemy still relied on armoured piercing and fire-power weapons to inflict damage on the Judgement knights. The weapons these Judgment Knights were equipped with were of no use against the firearms of the enemy, which was unlucky for these knights.
The Advance Team did not want to get involved in this battle, so they bypassed the battlefield, striving to reach a village within the Ancient States. Their recent encounter made them realize suddenly that they had nothing to do with the Judgement Legion, so they didn’t have to worry about Theron making trouble for them.
As long as they could escape from the battle and reach the village, Luo’er believed that Theron wouldn’t bother them anymore. After all, the Ancient States advocated freedom and equality -- even if the Advance Team came from the Northern territories, they couldn’t be labeled as spies for the Judgement Legion based on this fact alone.
Within the dense jungle, countless small paths were trodden by these people. Occasionally, some people would pass by the Advance Team as they moved positions. Fortunately, most of the people did not notice the group in the Advance Team and even if anyone did discover them, they took them for their own comrades, and did not bother to stop and communicate with them.
The Advance Team gradually extricated themselves from the battle without any mishaps. Just as Luo’er was about to breathe a sigh of relief, suddenly Hu Daoke pointed to the distance and shouted, "Look quickly, it’s Kroel, he seems to be trying to escape."
Everyone looked in the direction he pointed and saw that in the distant path, Kroel, under the assistance of several attendants, was withdrawing from the battlefield in an awkward state. And at this time, the Judgement Legion was still fiercely engaged in combat with the attackers; they did not expect this guy to turn tail and run.
The moment he saw Kroel, Luo’er instinctively thought of the woman who had been burnt to death. Now with Kroel on his own, without the protection of a Judgement Knight, it was the best opportunity to get rid of him.
"Luo’er, you better not act rashly!" Cheng Ziang, as if guessing Luo’er’s thoughts, warned him while looking at him.
Luo’er glanced at him, then fell silent for a moment. Then, he raised his head and told them, "I’ll deal with him. You all retreat to the position we had agreed, and wait for me there!"
"You’re crazy," Cheng Ziang grabbed him and glared at him, asking, "Are you thinking of acting alone again? Didn’t you get done in last time?"
"I can handle those guys!" Luo’er said.
"It’s not about whether you can handle it or not, but who will command us if you do that?" Cheng Ziang asked, holding onto him.
"Aren’t you the one commanding us right now?" Luo’er looked at him and said.
"Alright, I am commanding, so I am ordering you not to go!" Cheng Ziang paused for a moment, then suddenly remembered that he was now the captain.
"Ziang, this is the best chance to kill that guy. Once the Judgement Knights join him, even if there’s only one, we won’t have this opportunity. I know you also want to kill him, so I promise you, I will return safely!" Luo’er said.
Looking at Luo’er’s anxious expression, Cheng Ziang fell into deep thought. To be honest, he too was disgruntled with Kroel’s outrageous behaviour, especially the woman who was burnt to death and the abandoned corpse by the roadside still deeply disturbed him.
This rare opportunity should have been undertaken by him and Luo’er should have been left in command of the team. After all, as a close combat hand, he would be better suited for an assassination than Luo’er.
However, since Luo’er had volunteered, he found no grounds to refuse. After all, such a mission was not exactly dangerous, it would just mean breaking away from the team. Besides, he didn’t know his bad luck, taking on team leadership upon himself. Now he has to stay behind, giving Luo’er an advantage.
After considering it deeply, Cheng Ziang finally agreed to Luo’er’s plan, but also requested him to return as soon as the task was completed. After all, this area was the frontline of the conflict between Theron and the Judgement Legion, and it was inevitable that there would be rioting soldiers running around. Leaving this area as soon as possible was the best option.
"Luo’er, you’ll be alone so be careful, don’t repeat last time’s incident!" Seeing Luo’er insist on setting off alone, Tangmo couldn’t say anything but to remind him to be cautious.
"I know, wait for me at the predetermined location. If it’s not safe there, wait for me at the next one. If I can’t find you, I’ll naturally go to the next predetermined location." Luo’er nodded, and then slowly approached Kroel and the others with his rifle.
"Let’s go, we should also retreat!" Cheng Ziang commanded as he watched Luo’er leave.
Luo’er slowly approached Kroel and the others along the path in the jungle. Kroel was accompanied by three attendants who were helping him escape through the small jungle path. Kroel, who was large in size and lived a pampered lifestyle, was probably experiencing such hardship for the first time.
He was originally sitting comfortably inside the rune carriage, but the opponent’s rockets and bombs were relentlessly being targeted at the carriage. Although they could not damage the carriage for the time being, the explosion continuously shook the carriage, which was quite choking. Therefore, with the help of Dina, the Judgement Knights took Kroel out and let him avoid the heat temporarily along the small road, waiting to meet up with him after dealing with these people.
"Lord Kroel!" As Luo’er approached them, he immediately shouted aloud.
Luo’er’s shout startled everyone, even Kroel was soaked in a cold sweat of surprise. Once he recognised Luo’er, he finally regained his breath, patting his chest in relief and saying, "It’s Captain Luo’er!"
"How come Lord Kroel is here?" Luo’er asked him.
"Oh, I, I’m making a tactical retreat!" Kroel stuttered for a moment, then forced out a smile and said.
"Oh, retreat!" Luo’er nodded in understanding.
"I wonder why Captain Luo’er is all alone?" Kroel asked.
"Sorry, I got separated from my comrades, I don’t know if I could join Lord Kroel?" Luo’er scratched the back of his head, not hiding his embarrassment.
"So that’s the case, then of course there’s no problem. Since it’s Captain Luo’er’s request, how could I possibly refuse." A smile appeared on Kroel’s face, anxious about no one protecting him. He didn’t expect that a Luo’er would be delivered immediately. Although he’s a veteran, he’s from the same camp — he wouldn’t turn against him in a crisis.
But this time he got it wrong, the reason Luo’er proactively approached was to kill him!
