Otherworld Advance Team -
Chapter 440 - 433: Ilanadale
Chapter 440: Chapter 433: Ilanadale
Olavia watched his forced smile, a little bit scared. She cast a glance at Hu Daoke, who she realized was also looking at her. Their amorous gazes met, ignited a spark, and they both turned red with shyness.
"Old Cheng, what are you doing?" Hu Daoke turned around, hit him and complained in a low voice with a flushed face.
"Ah well, there’s mutual affection here, I don’t see anything wrong with playing Yue Lao," Cheng Ziang said with a grin.
He spoke rather loudly, but because he spoke in Chinese, besides the members of the advance team, the two girls had no idea what was being said.
"What are you talking about? Stop trying to play cupid!" Hu Daoke retorted, his face reddening.
"Don’t you fancy her?" Cheng Ziang asked with a smile as he looked at him.
"I..." Hu Daoke glanced at Olavia out of the corner of his eye, and refuted with a blush, "Ah, why should I tell you anything!"
"If you truly have no interest in her, Luo’er and I have discussed that we can’t keep dragging the Olavia sisters along. We’re planning to leave them in one of the towns we pass by, and that’ll allow them to fend for themselves. If they come with us to the Ancient States, they might just slow us down," Cheng Ziang revealed earnestly.
"No, but..." Hearing what he had to say, Hu Daoke appeared worried, "If they encounter danger being on their own, what will they do then?"
"Life and death are destined, wealth is from heaven!" Cheng Ziang responded briefly.
In fact, Luo’er had no intention of abandoning the Olavia sisters due to his concern over the potential danger that they might encounter. Cheng Ziang only said this in order to pressure Hu Daoke to voice his true feelings.
"Boss, are we really going to leave them?" Hu Daoke spun around to look at Luo’er, who was being cornered by the two girls, and asked with a worried look.
"Ah, I..." Luo’er stole a glance at him and then at Cheng Ziang. He figured out Cheng Ziang’s intentions, but lying wasn’t a skill he was adept at, so he changed the topic using a random excuse, "Moumou, Moumou, I can hardly breathe with your arms around my neck..."
Since Luo’er neither confirmed nor denied it, he implicitly seemed to agree. Upon seeing his response, Hu Daoke took a deep sigh and turned back around. Cheng Ziang was watching him, waiting to hear his stance.
"It’s hard to say if it’s love, but it feels good being around her. And...Olavia doesn’t discriminate against me for being a half-beastman so, I have a sense of acceptance..." after a long silence, Hu Daoke murmured, lowering his head.
"See? It’s settled then," having gotten the answer he sought, Cheng Ziang slapped Hu Daoke’s shoulder and announced with a chuckle, "Your wife is one of our advance team members; it’s our job to protect them."
"Don’t start making stuff up, nothing’s been decided yet," responding, Hu Daoke glanced back at Olavia. Then he added, "She’s a shy girl, don’t blurt it out in front of her please!"
"Alright, you guys can develop your relationship, the matter is settled!" Cheng Ziang said, smiling.
"Old Cheng, you..." Hu Daoke looked at him, his eyes filled with warmth, and he couldn’t help but embrace Cheng Ziang closely.
"No philandering after you get a family, okay? I’m not into you!" Cheng Ziang hugged him back, teasing in his ear.
"Yes, I understand, you should buckle down too!" Hu Daoke almost broke into tears, deeply moved.
Looking at the two grown men huddled together tightly, a look of bewilderment crossed Olavia’s face. After a long silence, it seemed like she had realized something and she sadly lowered her head.
"Hey, let her go. She’s misunderstanding!" Cheng Ziang realized Olavia’s expression had changed, so he patted Hu Daoke’s back and spoke urgently.
"Huh, what did she misunderstand?" Looseing his grip on Cheng Ziang, Hu Daoke asked, totally clueless.
"She thought we were gay!" Cheng Ziang answered.
"Dammit!" Hu Daoke was taken aback, hurriedly turning around to explain to Olavia. Only when he saw her expression gradually softening did he feel relieved.
Once their relationship was established, things progressed swiftly between Olavia and Hu Daoke. Although neither had expressed their feelings for the other, there was always a strange light in their eyes whenever they looked at each other.
In contrast, Luo’er became the target of a fresh round of competition between Tangmo and Baiyue due to this incident, leaving him utterly exhausted.
The team continued southward. After crossing two tributaries within Baales’s territory, they slowly approached the fronter of the Ancient States. After another half month of travel, the Advance Team and the Judgement Legion finally reached the confluence of Baales, the Ancient States and Ilanadale. At this point, two full months had passed since their departure from Yazhi City.
The further south the team traveled, the more humid they felt. Warm, moist air from the south and southeast nourished the land here. The climate changed from a tropical desert to tropical grassland, eventually transitioning into a subtropical evergreen broadleaf forest landscape.
Ilanadale, the Wood Elf Kingdom, was the end of the Namijiya Mountain Range. The range ran through the entire territory. Because both sides of the range were affected by the warm, moist wind from the sea, rainfall was abundant, and the vegetation was mostly evergreen.
Although the junction of the three kingdoms was still grassland vegetation, looking towards Ilanadale, one could see lush green plants. The Judgement Legion’s previous expeditions all traveled south along the border of Ilanadale and the Ancient States, nearing the City of Stars located on the peninsula. This time, their route was no exception.
"Wow, is that Ilanadale? Is that Luo’er’s hometown?" Tangmo turned his head to look at the luscious greenery in the distance and couldn’t help but lament.
"Ilanadale, I’m here for the first time." Looking at the distant scenery, Luo’er was also filled with sentiments. For this day, he had struggled for more than twenty years. Once he entered Ilanadale, he could find his mother.
Thinking of this, Luo’er’s mood became extremely excited, he even wished to turn around and enter Ilanadale right now. However, his sanity securely held his brain, preventing him from doing something stupid.
Ever since he was reprimanded by Lin Wei last time, Luo’er dared not act on his own. Unless the Judgement Legion was immediately attacked, the Advance Team could not leave the Judgement Legion’s formation.
Thinking of this, Luo’er secretly hoped that the Judgement Legion would be attacked by Theron immediately, so they would have a reason to split from the Judgement Legion and enter Ilanadale on their own.
Of course, it’s not certain that he would be able to find his mother just by entering Ilanadale. First of all, Ilanadale is extremely insular. A complex team like theirs would have a hard time there. In particular, Luo’er is a half-wood elf, a race despised by the pure-blood wood elves. If encountered by the elf soldiers, they would be driven across the border immediately.
So, Luo’er’s initially excited mood calmed down significantly when he considered this. The time was not yet ripe. Even if they could act independently, they needed a reasonable plan to enter Ilanadale and find Luo’er’s mother.
In the carriage, Hu Daoke and Olavia sat closely together. Hu Daoke was still telling her stories, this time about the Advance Team’s stories on Earth. Listening to Hu Daoke’s descriptions, Olavia was filled with longing for the beautiful and equal country on the other side of the Otherworld Gate.
Ona, who had been abandoned by her sister, held no grudge against her, instead, she cozied up to Baiyue, who was reading her diary, and was learning Russian from her. It was unknown what these two girls were thinking - one dared to teach and the other dared to learn.
Without the curious gaze of the Zhuyan People, Luo’er and Cheng Ziang rode on horseback behind the carriage as usual. However, unlike before, Luo’er had Tangmo in his arms. After being mistaken for a wife last time, Tangmo completely let go of herself, pestering Luo’er every day and self-appointing herself as his wife.
Luo’er felt helpless about this and had no choice but to let her do what she pleased. While Tangmo did let go of herself, she never crossed the line in serious matters, which was why Luo’er tolerated her.
"The further south we go, the greater the danger. We should keep a greater distance from the Judgement Legion. It would be best if Theron took us for innocent bystanders," Cheng Ziang said as he worriedly observed the troops in the distance.
"We’re traveling within Ilanadale’s borders now. We shouldn’t be attacked as easily, right?" Luo’er glanced around, then responded.
"That’s not necessarily the case. The Ancient States and Ilanadale have always kept to themselves and their border management is lax. Theron and his men might ambush the Judgement Legion within Ilanadale’s borders. And this bunch are all stubborn, always taking the same route in their expeditions as if they’re not afraid of being attacked by the people of the Ancient States," said Cheng Ziang, shaking his head and sighing.
"Luo’er, let’s leave the team and go straight to Ilanadale, I want to meet our mom now!" Tangmo looked up, gazing at Luo’er’s nostrils as she spoke.
"Absolutely not, I was nearly chewed out last time. Without an instruction, I can’t act on my own," Luo’er had a hint of helplessness regarding Tangmo’s advantage. He paused, then continued, "And besides, Ilanadale is very exclusive. If we want to go in there and find people, we must have a good plan. If we rush in, we might end up fighting those wood elves."
"We’re still on the grassland here. It’s vast, so there might not be many ambushers. If we continue to head south, we’ll enter the primeval forest. That’s the most dangerous place. Luo’er, you need to prepare everyone, in case of an attack, we won’t even have a chance to escape," Cheng Ziang was looking at the greenery in the distance, speaking with evident concern.
"I know, once we enter the forest, I’ll order everyone to ride in the carriage with their backpacks. That way, if we’re attacked, we can jump off the carriage and run," Luo’er nodded, agreeing with his statement.
