Chapter 432: Chapter 425: Forcibly Taking the Civilian Girl
The unattainable never ceases to stir, to the favored ones, they possess a fearlessness. Luo’er completely embodied this idea, given the background that the Church Court was eager to cooperate with the headquarters, he could fully use his status as the headquarters representative to bargain for some benefits that seemed insignificant in the eyes of the Church Court.
"Captain Luo’er, are you preparing to make an enemy out of us? Don’t forget, if you offend us, it means that you are offending the Church Court." Seeing the guns of the advance team pointed at him, the priest was not particularly scared, because he knew these knights could fully protect him from bullets.
"No, I just want to clarify, if it really comes to a fight, do you genuinely believe you can handle us, priest? To offend you is to offend the Church Court. But to offend us, you would be offending the headquarters, can you really afford this offense?" Luo’er retorted without backing down.
Looking at the cocky half-elf in front of him, the priest felt his body trembling in anger. Normally, he wouldn’t care about a half-elf like Luo’er at all, killing him would be no different from crushing an ant.
But frustratingly, the repulsive man in front of him was the representative of the Shani peoples’ headquarters. Before setting off, the Pope had repeatedly warned them not to offend the headquarters’ people. Stymied by the Pope’s warning, he had to suppress his rage deep inside.
"Captain Luo’er, there has never been any conflict between us, our capture of the heretics falls within the scope of the Judgement Legion. Please do not interfere with our internal affairs, may we?" Taking a deep breath and suppressing his anger, the priest candidly suggested.
"Capture of the heretics?" Luo’er narrowed his eyes, looking at the terrified Bobulu girls, then withdrew his gaze and asked, "What evidence do you have to prove that they are heretics?"
"Once they undergo trial, we will know whether they’re guilty. Our mission is to eradicate heretics, non-believers, and witches within the Church’s territory, if they don’t have any relation to these identities, we naturally will let them go." The priest declared righteously.
Luo’er did not respond, instead taking a glance at the crowd. He did not believe that these people were arresting others in the name of capturing heretics, rather, it seemed more like they were using the identity of the Judgement Legion to oppress these two girls.
He noticed that the two Bobulu girls stood out in the crowd, Hu Daoke and Cheng Ziang’s first sight was taken by the two girls. Therefore, he had enough evidence to prove that these people were trying to forcefully capture the girls.
However, even knowing this, he was at a loss for what to do. Because as the priest stated, they were only the outsiders here, whether these two girls were guilty or not, would have to be decided by the tribunal. They might be able to exploit their status as headquarters representatives for some advantages, but blatantly interfering the Judgement Legion’s internal affairs was definitely out of line.
"We are not heretics, we are not witches, we are just common folk, please spare us!" The two girls shrieked, trying to prove their lawful status.
"Shut up!" one of the knights of judgement, irritated, swung his hand forcefully, slapping one of the girls. His force was so strong that her face immediately swelled up, her nose bleeding uncontrollably.
Witnessing the scene, the spectators nearby all let out wailing cries, even the other members of the advance team felt they couldn’t stand it any longer, their hands holding onto their weapons, fingers ready to pull the trigger.
"Are you going to bring them for trial?" Luo’er did not dare to look at the miserable state of the two girls, he asked the priest instead.
"Of course!" was the priest’s answer.
"Can we go and watch?" Luo’er asked.
"Captain Luo’er, this is our internal affair!" The priest emphasized.
"So, not even observing is allowed?" Luo’er asked.
"If it’s only for observation, then there naturally wouldn’t be a problem, but I still need to remind Captain Luo’er -- do not attempt to interfere with the Judgement Legion’s trial," warned the priest again.
"Understood!" Luo’er nodded his head.
Without further hindrance from Luo’er, the priest finally heaved a sigh of relief. He gave a signal to the knight to ignore the screams of the two girls and bring them to the place of trial.
Luo’er watched as the members of Judgement Legion left, then turned around and casually said, "Ziang, Little Ke, come with me, Moumou and Yue’er should stay and watch the tent. Listen carefully, you two stay in the tent, if any of those judgement legion dares to step into the tent, blast their head first, we will deal with the aftermath when we return."
"Luo’er, you must save them, they look so pitiful." Tangmo looked at Luo’er and said.
"Alright, I’ll give it a shot!" Luo’er nodded, then gestured to Hu Daoke and Cheng Ziang. With his head held high and taking broad strides, he headed towards the place of judgment.
The closer they got to the center of the town, the more judgement knights they saw. Only then did they realize that not only were the two Bobulu girls captured, but many other girls were also being escorted and brought to the judgment site in the center of the town.
"I’ve heard that these members of the Judgement Legion eye a girl, make up some charges against her, and then force her to sleep with them," Hu Daoke lowered his voice and spoke to Cheng Ziang as they walked. Though he was speaking Chinese, he subconsciously lowered his voice.
"That’s perfectly normal, absolute power leads to absolute corruption. The Judgement Legion is completely dominated by those three, and no one can restrain them as long as they agree," Cheng Ziang shrugged and said. Unlike Hu Daoke, he spoke loudly, without fear of anyone around hearing.
"Oh dear, what a pity for those two beautiful girls to be spoiled by these men," Hu Daoke said worriedly.
"Luo’er, have you thought of a good solution yet?" Cheng Ziang didn’t answer him, but instead turned to Luo’er who was ahead and asked.
"Not yet, we’ll go take a look first and then act accordingly. Frankly, I can’t save everyone. It would be good enough to save those two girls," Luo’er said without turning his head, unable to suppress a deep sigh.
Luo’er had always believed that the headquarter should collaborate with the Church Court and hold the power, restricting some of the church’s practices. But instead, like now, they’ve been repulsed with a word about internal affairs.
Such a practice might be domineering, but for an organization like the Church Court, it’s the best choice. The Church Court is vast with complex internal interests. It can only be contained and managed top-down, so that everyone willingly submits to the headquarter.
Unlike the mutually beneficial relationship with Ronisca, and unlike the investment relationship with Melia. It’s mandatory to have tight control over the Church Court. A mere partnership is weak and can be easily undermined by enemies from within the Church Court.
However, according to the current situation, although the Church Court needs the headquarters, it is not desperately reliant. Both parties are in a relatively balanced state, thus Luo’er and his team’s internal power within the Judgement Legion is not high.
If someday the headquarters gained an overwhelming advantage over the Church Court, in a situation like this, Luo’er could directly order the Judgement Legion to release all people and return their homes.
"How about we sneak in at night and clip these evil doers?" Hu Daoke suggested, making a throat-cutting gesture with his hand.
"No," Cheng Ziang shot a glance at him before saying, "If we’re exposed, we’ll be done for, and the cooperation between the headquarters and the Church Court will be ruined."
His worry was about being discovered, not the appropriateness of the action. This suggests that Cheng Ziang also wanted to get rid of these men.
"So what can we do, it’s not like these girls are that pretty, but to be spoiled like this...sigh..." Hu Daoke said, unable to suppress a deep sigh.
"We’re not saviours, we can’t manage all these issues. Try getting used to it," Cheng Ziang said, not sure what else to add, and patted his shoulder to comfort him.
Though he often clashed with Hu Daoke, when it came to matters of right and wrong, their attitudes were surprisingly aligned.
Luo’er didn’t join their conversation. His mind was filled with thoughts about how to deal with the situation. The Judgement Legion must have done this before, but since they witnessed it, they couldn’t just ignore it.
After all, they had grown up on Earth and had been educated there. Compared with these men, at very least, they had a conscience.
The three of them walked along the cobblestone path of the town and found that quite a few townspeople had gathered, mostly men and some old women in their fifties and sixties. This was understandable, after all, each member of the Judgment Legion was a noble, and they wouldn’t be so desperate as to go after old women.
A light drizzle was falling from the sky, and when he breathed, Luo’er could see his own white breath. The cries that echoed around him from time to time made him feel uncomfortable.
He quickened his pace and headed towards the site of the judgment. Though he couldn’t guarantee to save everyone, he set a minimum target for himself, that was to rescue the two Bobulu girls.
